I watched him repeat that mantra for a minute or two. It did seem to be doing something energetically. Not really interested in pursuing it any further but figured I'd share my 02 cents.

Nice. Im a jack of all practices, master of none...
-
I try to practice no-practice, but it ends up being practice. So then I stop practicing, and once I realize it's no-practice, I automatically start practicing and thus defeats the purpose. One day I'll give up all practices and achieve the elusive no-practice practice. But it takes practice...

Any simple and effective ways to stretch your muscles and gain mobility and flexibility?
Fa Xin replied to Oneironaut's topic in Daoist Discussion
if you want to be flexible, you must stretch. Yoga! ashtanga is good I hear. -
My teacher was big into iron skills; iron shirt and hands. His methods are slower (about 1 to 2 years) but you don't get injuries since they're mainly internal. Your "tapping" the bag, not slapping it hard. Wolfe's principle, etc. feel free to PM me, he has some books and dvds available but I won't post them here. Other thing is if your working with hardening your hands, it's imperative you use a good jow to avoid permanent injuries or clots.

Was this for me? My comment was tongue in cheek, because sitting quietly should not be dangerous. Sounds like a zen koan. "What is the danger in sitting quietly?"
-
Mmmm. Good thread. Who would've thought, sitting quietly could be so dangerous? As for the 10 day meditation retreats, where they take your phone and forbid you to talk.... ...not for me ! I'll pass, thanks. Sounds like punishment. In all seriousness, I've known people who love them and can probably use the quiet / vacation from the "world". I disagree about the Mindfulness Apps... ...yes mindfulness is a life style and the whole fast food vibe of meditation is a bit sickening. But everyone has to start somewhere, maybe that is the dharma reaching out to those who are 'far away' in their minds.

You enter into spirituality to better yourself and overcome your weak points. The same can be said for martial arts, at least, in my experience. The two go hand in hand. You Can find peace by mastering war in a sense. Because i know how to fight I respect it a lot more and strive for peace. on a more personal level I was always drawn to the calm, focus and strength the monks had. I began reading Buddhist books because I heard meditation could give you more power. Got hooked on it quick and it's been my life from then on. Oldsaint is right, sometimes a path chooses you And there's no easy explanation.

I've tried to define it but I keep finding that the part cannot contain the whole. My mind wants to make it fit into a nice little box but it just ain't happenin

I try to save bugs when I can, or just leave them be. (Rather than squish em for being in my space) You Can easily shoo a bug off of a berry though. And if it's a wild berry wouldn't there be others to choose from? or you can eat both the bug and berry. It could have some kind of sweet n salty thing going on.

Lol @ fidget spinners. I dont get those either. A friend of mine tried to explain them to me "so you spin it?" "yeah" "does it do anything else?" "you can do tricks. It's for when you fidget" "what if I don't fidget?" "you can always start"
