All right, I'm having a benevolent minute for ChiDragon. I will answer his question "what" a dantien "is." In classical taoism (and, surprisingly but not, in the Babylonian system as well), the macrocosm is thought of as an arrangement of thirty-six heavens. They have names, numbers, and ruling gods, all of them. They are arranged vertically and reflected on a corresponding fractal scale in the human microcosm. The six lower heavens, e.g., constitute a distinct "unit of reality," followed by eighteen above them belonging to a different realm, which in their turn are followed by twelve above them. A dantien is a transition point from one "system of heavens" to the next, similar to a stargate if you will, or a wormhole, a vortex that can manifest or unmanifest, both connecting and disconnecting realms of various taoist heavens. It is a phenomenon of spacetime biophysics -- including its extensions into realms with no space, no time, no biology and no physics. So, in order to understand what a dantien "is" instead of getting frustrated with its "descriptions," you need to study and practice (sic) classical taoist cosmology, astrology and astro-theology coupled with subtle anatomy and physiology, for starters. I.e. strictly taoist sciences. You can't take a shortcut via other sciences, you need to study taoist sciences if you want to approach the dantien "scientifically." To be able to comprehend them, you need to cultivate respect for taoist sciences, it's a prerequisite -- lest it all falls on a deaf ear and an infertile mind. This respect of course cannot be enforced. Some of us, via practice, gained it empirically (me, e.g.), others just tried approaching the subject with an open mind, there's different strokes for different folks. But if you start with the assumption that taoist sciences, arts and practices are "primitive" or "inferior" or "imaginary," you'll never learn anything. Learning is a function of respect. So I invite you to give taoist sciences the benefit of an open mind at least for a while -- miracles are known to have happened this way. Good luck.

I don't remember what Laozi said about it, but alchemically it is pretty clear. However, per my teacher and per my experience, red is a late stage in the process and yellow comes first, though before that what you need comes first. Currently my LDT is the blackest black, and I have a practice to make it blacker.

Oh, that must be really circuit-breaking.

My direct perceptions informed me of the existence of my dantiens before I knew anything theoretical on the subject. A phenomenon known as "ChiDragon," however, the same perceptions can't distinguish from a computer program launched by some anti-taoist subversive organization for the purpose of continuously compromising taoist discussions at the forum. Honestly, I would be unable to tell if it is a name given to an "imaginary" entity or a "real" one, nor determine the nature and goals of such entity with any certainty. It could be just an impossible poster, a real person. But it could also be a paid agent of a subversive anti-taoist organization, or even a computer virus. How would you go about proving, in the absence of direct personal experience, that "ChiDragon" is not imaginary?

Let me do a bit of that. MDT is the seat of "selfhood," one's ability to maintain a coherent and consistent experience of "me" instead of, e.g., multiple personalities, or some other affliction that robs one of this -- e.g. senility where one might be forgetting one's own name, or large chunks of one's own life (such as having had children, or else interchanging or blending into one family members of different generations, e.g. father and husband, etc.. ) MDT provides the "glue" that holds assorted facets and aspects of one's sense of his or her own personhood together. Hanging in the vicinity of the solar plexus, it also provides the greater connection of this "self" with the sun and its energies and spirits. When it "speaks," it's like a sunny day inside. But it can get "obscured by clouds" for long periods of time -- if it is, people tend to be "lost in a fog" as to who they are. This is just a glimpse of course...

What walks on four legs in the morning, on two during the day, then on three in the evening? -- the sphinx asked Oedipus, and getting the correct response -- humans -- committed suicide by throwing himself into the abyss. Distracted by the soap opera of Oedipus that follows, generations of readers miss the significance of this exchange. The sphinx was not just referring to ontogeny, he meant philogeny. The morning, day, and evening do not refer to one day, nor one lifetime of an individual -- they refer to the evolution of the species. The suicide of the sphinx expresses his attitude to the coming of the "evening," the age of technology when humans walk on three legs, the third one, artificial, signifying the aid and intrusion of technology into the way humans "walk." This helps us find our place in the evolutionary progression. The heavier we lean on that cane, the later in the evening it is. The sphinx illustrated what happens next -- at night, humans don't walk at all, and neither does anything else anymore.

In taoism, odd numbers are yang and even numbers are yin. In terms of sex, one straight unbroken line (which, oriented horizontally, means "1" in Chinese) stands for the male organ of procreation. So, Mr. Crowley's joke is apt. Gurdjieff used to call kundalini "Kundabuffer."

A dantien is like love. Everybody has the capacity, not everybody has the experience.

The rabbit hole is WAY deeper. The gender bias is primarily in the assumption that childhood behavior of girls is supposed to be gender specific to begin with. Girls are conditioned much stronger than boys to avoid all behaviors that are "not ladylike." But I ran around with a bunch of girls who were very un-lady-like and we did all the things that most girls are too timid to do -- every day. We were physically active, aggressive, and often reckless. In trouble all the time. The teachers' favorite line to my parents summoned to school to complain about my behavior? "She is worse than any boy!" This seemed to explain the extent of the problem -- what can be tolerated in a boy can't be tolerated in a girl. Most girls are intimidated into compliance so early that they don't even know that their "girl-like" behavior is unnatural, because they were never allowed to explore their natural behavior. I wasn't either, but the drive to behave normally -- like a child (of any gender!) was so strong that I was willing to take the punishment rather than change the pattern. I distinctly remember self-policing toward "ladylike" when puberty came, when it became clear that I will be unable to get away with being normal for much longer even among peers, because everybody is conditioned to expect certain patterns of presentation of a girl, and by 13 it's drilled into every head. I distinctly remember understanding that "nobody will love me as a girl if I don't pull off the kind of girl that is expected of me." I swore to myself I will never get in a fight again. I trained myself to walk when I wanted to run. And so on. I ask all ex-boys to consider that you are no ex-girls so you have no clue. Ask someone who was a girl what it was like to be conditioned as a girl, don't ass - u - me.

Sayings of Meister Eckhart declared as heresy by the Vatican
Taomeow replied to Jetsun's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
Seth, in this case the sentiment is perhaps brought about by the fact that Meister Eckhart was accused of heresy and died while on trial for his life. -

Those who are in charge of humans (be they themselves human too or not) do not just build their stuff on top of prior stuff. They build their sacred sites on top of the sacred sites of prior humans whom they drive out or destroy, more often than not. The new owners are usually very aware of the power of the sacred place and build their own stuff on top for the specific purpose of keeping the defeated power down. The physical ritual that invariably goes with the practice is "pinning" -- a sword is drawn into the ground, and symbols are utilized that represent it. The cross, which is a symbol for the sword, and its many versions are used almost invariably. One version of it is X, the "metal defying earth" pinning sign. In modern times, names like Exxon or Xerox, Celebrex or Vioxx continue this occult practice, and the doctor's script that is designated Rx signifies pinning down the healing powers of non-technological non-industrial nature -- it is not an abbreviation, the original Latin word does not contain an X -- it's just recipe, which means "take, thou." This is done in the physical realm, but the pinning is extended into the spiritual realm -- by denying the reality of things that went before, pinning them down as "myth," "old wives tales," "ignorant pagan beliefs" and so on. This reminds me of the samurai "eye sword" -- before you pin the adversary with the physical sword, you pierce him with your "eye sword" that goes right through him "looking straight through him as though he isn't there, into the future where he does not exist." It is a very efficient weapon which confers much occult power on the new owners.

Georgia shows off skull thought to rewrite human evolution
Taomeow replied to xor's topic in The Rabbit Hole
Dolphins have brains that weigh nearly a pound more than ours. That's not the whole story. Each of their hemispheres is a fully functional brain onto itself, so they can use one half for a full range of functions and let the other half sleep -- which results in zero need of sleep for the whole animal, zero unconscious states, or perhaps better than that -- they might exist in our world AND in dreamtime simultaneously at all times. It's not just the size, it's the efficiency of the brain -- ours is modest on that scale. Very. Absolute size of the brain is an indicator of nothing much, but the relative brain to body size ratio of a species matters -- not in comparison of intelligence with any other species but in terms of longevity. Our ratios and elephants' are as close as our lifespans. It's been calculated that the rule applies to all species with a CNS -- the greater the size of the brain in relation to body weight, the longer they live. No such connection between the absolute brain size and the species' intelligence has ever been possible to make. The only reason we believe there's a direct connection between intelligence and brain size is completely unscientific. To wit, we have just enough brains to have figured out that if we agree (with no evidence) to use the size of the brain as an indicator, it's something that makes us look good. Moreover, it provides a make-believe-scientific justification for our behavior, no matter what this behavior is like species-wide. We simply apply circular logic in reality, not science. We are smart, that's why we do things we do. We do things we do, and it proves we are smart. If we use almost any other criterion than brain size, we don't look that smart at all. Oh, of course there's things we build, rebuild, demolish and pave over, there's that. We've hinged all our species' pride and all our accomplishments on the opposable thumb. I don't think being able to use it without being able to foresee the outcome of using it is all that intelligent after all.
