awaken replied to Alchemistgeorge's topic in Daoist Discussion
If you don't watch smartphone, TV, computer, ipad.... And practice Qi gong under the sun everyday for two hours at least And keep the Qi for all day Do meditation for two hours a day at least Your eyesight will be better It is very hard to live like this way. -
Ha, it is ok to have a teacher or not. Everyone can have a choice. No Matter you have a teacher or not, nothing can't stop you to understand what is dao. The heart of dao is the most important.

You are right . They are not the same.

Queries about qi, jing & the Tao etc
awaken replied to A Greased Scotsman's topic in Newcomer Corner
People practice moving gong to train Jin. Practicing meditation to train Qi. Practicing stillness to train Shen. Different stages of practicing can train different objects. Training Jin is for creat more Qi. Training Qi is for clearer Shen. Training Shen is for opening the emptiness. Opening the emptiness is for creating immortal. Creating immortal is for becoming the unlimited. -
What is restlessness? Do you mean you have a lot of thoughts when you are meditating? If you mean this, it is normal. Unless you combine the lead and mercury, you will have a lot of thoughts when meditating.

I don't think There is an authoritative scholar book. Everyone can show their personal view. Actually, I don't read these books. I just guess there is no such version exist. If you want to know, you can buy these 1000 books and read all of them. Maybe you can find one. Ha, but I don't want to do that. Waste time a lot.

http://search.books.com.tw/search/query/key/道德經/cat/all We can find 51 pages of list of DDJ related books in one Taiwanese web book stores. There are 20 books in every pages. Therefore, there are about 1000 books about DDJ. I don't read these books. I read DDJ directly. Actually, I have read DDJ when I was in university. After graduating, I don't read DDJ again. I read other books. These years, I read the Daoist texts. Until now, I came to the website, I read the DDJ again. Are those commentaries close to what we read in books today or even in this forum? ---> I don't read these books, so I can't answer your question. I have a friend who is teaching DDJ in university. He doesn't read the Daoist texts. So he has different thoughts from me. I do a lot of practice, but he doesn't. https://www.google.com.tw/amp/yzunews.yzu.edu.tw/speach/amp/

The second sentence talks about the second stage of the emptiness, a big hole. The third sentence talks about the changes of the hole. The hole is full of light. at first, the light of the hole has much dust. Then it become clear and pure. Then A immortal show up. At first, it sink and come out. Then it appear like a human. But not a human. This chapter talks about the process of the birth of immortal.

Anyone familiar with a Taiwanese cult called the Dao Cultivators?
awaken replied to sillybearhappyhoneyeater's topic in Daoist Discussion
Most Taiwanese don't care about other people's religions are cult or not. But I heard a lot of Chinese people like to call other religions as a cult. Because Chinese don't have religions for many years. These years, they open a lot, then a lot of religions went into China and a lot of new religions started. Many Chinese want to be rich by creating a new religion and become a great master to earn a lot of money. So that is why their government notice this situation and worry about the cult. -
Is there are a reason why few people talk about commentaries and annotations? ---> Not few. Many Chinese scholars wrote a lot of books and commentaries. If you can read Chinese, you will find many.

Anyone familiar with a Taiwanese cult called the Dao Cultivators?
awaken replied to sillybearhappyhoneyeater's topic in Daoist Discussion
There are many kinds of religions in Taiwan. People get used to see so many different religions in one community or in one family. The Daoism you know is very different from the people in Taiwan do. Only Christian in Taiwan don't do manism. Most people do manism. No conflict at all. In Taiwan, Daoism looks like a cult then yi guan dao. Let's see some video. This is a activity of Daoism. https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/zh-tw/鹽水蜂炮 https://youtu.be/QevOoZpDKcs Very crazy. The gods of small temple are invited to other temple. They walk on the road and make a lot of noise. https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/zh-tw/大甲媽祖遶境進香活動 https://youtu.be/8aKS-J8yUgY https://youtu.be/ENsM5gZAdFY https://youtu.be/FdxHkpAMWxk https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazu_(goddess) This is the biggest religion in Taiwan , Daoism. But this Daoism is very different from what you know in the forum. The religions in Taiwan are very free. No matter how 'cult' you are , no problem, unless you break the law. Cult in Taiwan are everywhere. Religions reflect people's mind and thought. Good religions could have evil people. Cult religions could have good people. If your mind is evil, people will treat your religion or school as a cult. For example, some people think their religion are very good and like to attack other's people religion as a cult. I think this kind of behavior will make people think your school are cult, very 'cult'. -

I think wu Liu pai in Russia is a cult, too. They like to attack people badly, but say nothing useful. -

They are just a religion. And I don't believe any religion. But people need religions. Let them keep their religions. Their original master misunderstood dao a lot. So they use the names of dao. But they don't know anything about dao. Not only yi Guam dao, many schools have the same situation. People only see what they can see. If they only see one percent of the universe, how can you expect they tell you the whole truth? If I tell you Wu Liu pai has the similar situation, you might be very angry and attack me. So let them keep their religions. -
Understanding everything from Daoist Texts
awaken replied to Arkady Shadursky's topic in Daoist Textual Studies
There are many 邪師evil teachers , 偽師fake teachers. These evil teachers and fake teachers like to advertise a lot about true teachers. Anyone who wants to learn dao won't be attracted by these evil or fake teachers. If you have a real heart, you see a real teacher. If you have a evil heart, you will treat a evil teacher as a true teacher. To look inside your real heart is the first step, not to advertise every day for your teacher. In Chinese, we don't call Daoist texts, we call '經'. Anyone who want to learn dao should know the different meaning of 經 Jin and 檔案 texts. Why Jin 經 to be a Jin and can last for thousands of years? Because it is sure to be right by many real practices for thousands of years. These books can only be called 經Jin. Not every can be called Jin 經。 If a teacher teach against the TTJ 道德經, we can make sure he is absolutely a fake teacher. DDJ is the basic Jin of daoism. A fake teacher vs. a right Jin I won't choose the fake teacher. Except DDJ, there still are many Jin in Chinese. If you don't know anything about dao, you will be easy to be cheated by fake teachers. You don't know what is right or wrong. And you will waste all your time to do a lot of advertisements for these fake teachers. And ask everyone to give money to your true teacher. It is really sad. You just want to learn dao. But you become a seller of a fake teacher. Not only fake teachers, but also fake Jins. If you don't read, you have no ability to distinguish the fake teacher. But it is easier to see the Jin is right or wrong. We can start from DDJ, Wu gen pian ...etc these famous Jin. If we can understand these Jins first, it's not easy for us to be cheated to become a seller of a fake teacher. -
Dao can't be separated from Chinese medicine. 醫道同源,medicine and dao have the same source. We can't separate dao from other Chinese cultures. And just discuss in a narrow perspective of dao. That is not dao I know.

Awakened vs Enlightened... Let's discuss the difference
awaken replied to qicat's topic in Newcomer Corner
We can see different people have different definitions about enlightment. I saw these situations for many years. Even in the Buddhism forums in Taiwan. After I saw a lot of uselessness arguments about enlightment. I gave up to discuss what is enlightment. Beginners always like to discuss these questions. But the people who is really enlightment don't discuss them. They see you in a moment. -
Yes, I like 武俠。 空海's road is similar to me. But I have not read much from him. I read Buddhism sutras or Daoist texts directly. There are many masters in Taiwan. They teach on TV. But I don't like to see that film. It is boring, too. And it is too easy. Most of those films are for beginners.

Awakened vs Enlightened... Let's discuss the difference

Enlightment: know the right direction Awaken : on the right direction So one could know the right direction, but still not on the right direction
