I very appreciate your interest. In my own words I can add here few important points about E.A.Torchinov works: He was the first from Russian sinology who insisted on the integrity of the internal Daoist doctrine (without dividing it into the so-called "philosophical" and "religious" Daoism, as it is accepted in the scientific community). Torchinov paid much attention to various issues: the history of Daoism; the problems of the origin of Daoism and periodization of its history; the interaction between Daoism and Chinese culture; the Daoist cosmogony; Daoism and ritual; Daoist-Buddhist interaction; Daoism interaction with the government, with the imperial power and the people's beliefs; and others. This methodological framework and extensive knowledge allowed Torchinov to get deep and more holistic understanding of the Daoist sources, and make his own extensive and unique comments. It is interesting to note that he devoted almost 20 years to research the treatise Baopuzi of Ge Hong! And he paid special attention to the practical side of Daoism and Inner Alchemy as a the core of the Daoist doctrine. The most important fact is that his works were not just scientific papers, he was trying to write his books the way many people could understand. And that is why his works became something like "cultural bridge" for many people who are striving to find the Way. Through his books audience could get deep insight and immerse to Daoist Tradition, the Chinese culture and Oriental culture as a whole. The 3-rd point for me is the most valuable. As Wikipedia says: ____________ Sincery, Pavel K. -

I don't think E.A.Torchinov is related to WuLiupai School in any way. This thread is not to blame someone or say someone is wrong but to tell forum members a little bit about the Taoist Researcher I greatly respect. By the way are there Wuzhenpian or Baopuzi translations into English? If not I can try to translate some exсerpts from E.A.Torchinov's translations here. Sincerely, Pavel K. -
I guess becasuse it is dangerous/ I often hear criticism to MCO practice in qigong, as it can lead to serious problems with health. For example, this hot flow at some point may go out of control, go up and hit to the head. Once I was talk with a man who practiced MCO. He told me his story. One day while he practicing the hot energy suddenly began to fill his head. And then he felt as something hard hit to his head. Then he lost consciousness. Later he went with the feeling of the head in a fog, his motor coordination was broken whithin a mounth. I met him after more than a year after this accident. He said that now he constantly feels that his body composed from the different parts which are not connected to each other. This man looked very unhappy. Best regards.

According to the translation laid out by you own, it is: And then there is written: And it all goes to: Maybe now it is time to recognize what the Teacher is needed for realization of Dao? Аfter so many posted examples, where respectfull Patriarchs said about it quite clear.

I didn't say about spontaneous qigong. I even didn't practice it. But i heart from few people who had practice spontaneous qigong before, that Jiuu yang shen gong seems like spontaneous qigong at first look. But Jiu yang shen gong give much better effect, and what it feels inside different, and it even looks different outside (in case of the movements). So it is not so.

I live in St. Petersburg (Russia), and familiar with the Wu Liu pai school and I have to say that much of what the user AWAKEN said about Wu Liu pai practice absolutely opposite to that I know from my own experience. I am not a disciple of Wuliupai school, but I attend regular classes of the Daode Center in Saint-Petersburg for more than 3 years. I practice Daogun (basic qigong method) and basic practices of Wu Liu and YuiXian schools wich openly taught here for external students. Daogun method entirely based on the naturalness, it does not have any elements of control energy by the mind or intention. The same I can say about the method Jiuu yang shen gong - which is the basic method Wuliupai school, and It generally provides a mechanism of the natural movement of energy within the body by itself and it goes absolutely naturally, without use the consciousness and intentions. I could say it is eminently natural practice. I have achieved very good results during practicing Daogun and Jiu yang shen gong method and I going to practice it in future because i really enjoy how it works. And I know many people personally who are practicing these techniques and also have excellent results and celebrate the fact that their lives have changed for the better. Best regards.
