Oh how I wish it was there. One of my favorite cities...eating at the Lone Star Cafe while overlooking the riverwalk...so enjoyable! You are lucky to be going to this one in Austin...Kunlun is an amazing path.

This thread is definitely for you.

That's what this thread is all about. For people who don't find any meaning here, it's all good...only for those who resonate.

Someone really needs to make a parody youtube video of this! Picture really low (thighs parallel to ground) horse stance while doing manual labor...a marathon runner who maintains zhan zhuang posture for all 26.2 miles with their arms "holding the tree"...taiji forms while moving between people as a line cook in a busy restaurant...a social worker who sits in full lotus and does exorcism mudras...ninjutsu nurses (they disable you with a wrist lock in order to draw your blood more easily)...maybe throw in an overweight lifeguard doing really effective belly breathing. Would be great. Anyway yeah I do similar stuff all day, although I think it changes my gait and posture into something which looks a bit abnormal and intense. The actual posture work that I do (Foundation) corrects that, going from a overall flexed body (which is actually the fear response and the whole neanderthal/old person look) into an extending and open one, which looks a lot more youthful and natural.

I hope I never randomly run into you somewhere and decide to hit on you.

From what I understand the book doesn't contain tummo instructions, exactly.

As luck would have it, an American kid trained with Wim Hof and published the techniques in this book recently: http://www.amazon.com/Becoming-the-Iceman-ebook/dp/B0065LUNT6/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1332039508&sr=1-1 I haven't checked it out yet...but from what I saw of it, cold exposure, and a breathing method. I saw that they did padmasana in the snow, in a video of them training together. There's an emphasis on training of the cardiovascular system to high VO2max, according to what Wim said in a video, and he said that's important in developing the ability. Something to check out if you want to do this, but I don't make any promises regarding the quality of instruction in that book. Good thing amazon accepts returns within a certain period for kindle books. This page also has some QandA: http://becomingtheiceman.com/faq

There is the concept and words of this result, which these people believe in (a mix of Buddhist and Taoist mythology which might be true)...there are the assumptions about the words, which you believe in (which doesn't necessarily resemble the actual attainment)...then there is the reality of that result, which those guys may have attained or not. Your attainment may not meet your expectations of what it is...the words are misleading and the interpretation of the words even more so. I'm not here to criticize your path and who you are at all...I just feel like it's a bit too much intensity building up, with no release of that through action towards the goals you have. And too much hatred of life and wishing for nothingness, when really what you're trying to do on this path is extend the time that you're alive in some form or another...most likely even after the typical death of the physical body. Regardless, I wish you the best in meeting your goals as well as finding your satisfaction. PS I like your descriptions of the yin and yang spirits.

You're saying that enjoying life regularly eventually becomes distasteful? I think there is no comparison to overeating candy, and that the more you enjoy life, the more you enjoy enjoying life. Cultivation...you reap what you sow. Sow enjoyment...reap more enjoyment. Life is never perfectly perfect, so I assure you, it won't get old. I don't believe that we are imprisoned, first of all. I think it's a false, harmful and useless belief. The belief and resulting emotions are what's imprisoning...not being alive. But yes, to get out of prison (hypothetically) you survive and behave yourself. If you can enjoy your time there, that's obviously much better than hating every second. Hating your life does not make your sentence go faster...actually it makes it seem like an eternity. The nature of prisons is that it's incredibly hard to escape...close to impossible. I suppose a productive way of spending your time is to think about ways to get out. If you are capable of coming up with a good enough scheme, then perhaps you could end up escaping... ...and then finding yourself still living as you are. Simply in a new place.

Doomed to cycle through more joy and contentment? I don't get what/why you're asking? I can change a lot of things, like anyone can.

If you view your life as a prison, then hardcore dantien cultivation like in mo pai might eventually become disastrous. Part of spiritual cultivation is, well, one thing being spiritual. Imagine if a buddha was imprisoned, would he be pouting and saying life sucks? No, they bring the spirit to the place...they don't try to leave the place and go to the spirit. The nature of the place is that you can't leave. Another part of spiritual cultivation is obviously, cultivation. If you're cultivating beliefs similar to: "life is prison", "death is with me every day", "the world is a living hell"...then you're basically self-destructing. And the end result isn't going to be a release...it's going to be further torment. Absolutely useless beliefs...no offense. What is better to do while imprisoned...to sit with your negative feelings and every second wish that the warden would let you go? Or maybe do a workout and read the paper? What gives you pleasure now...in "hell"? That's where you will find your heaven. Try to take it easy and enjoy yourself, in the midst of your escape attempts. ...just trying to help in what seems like a serious situation. I know my efforts are probably going to be fruitless here. Wish you the best, more pie guy.

Watching terrorism movies from before 2001 is very enlightening. Hollywood reveals a lot about what other people are talking about. Watch The Siege. Seriously. So many coincidences in that movie, you'd think that Hollywood came up with 9-11. Since it was already history, you can be assured that it was being discussed at the time. Probably in the types of circles which also discussed time travel, UFOs, secret military, etc. Look at what these types of people are discussing today. I'm sure someone 10-20 years from now will be able to look back and say "whoa, these guys predicted some of this". Nah...no one knows the future. No one literally travels through time. It's just that history repeats itself, and that conspiracy theorists are sometimes right.

The whole response to the Kony idea (people taking a highly critical and pseudo-intellectual stance) has been very interesting to me, and now this... http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/03/16/kony-2012-director-jason-russell-detained-after-meltdown/?mod=e2fb Psychic attack?

You say this as if you really know... And that's my whole point. Hopefully your nightmares don't come true.

I think the ancient and true schools are definitely still around. The nature of our perception is that we only see what we're capable of seeing. They are hidden in plain sight. Consider a person that goes grocery shopping, and needs milk. They might catch a glimpse of the bread, a few boxes of cereal, smell the coffee aisle...but they miss out on SO much since they already have an idea of what they want. Maybe they didn't catch how the floor was dirty in a certain area. They didn't see that one of the flourescent lights were out. They certainly didn't read all of the varieties of coffee grounds that were offered. They didn't notice the face of each person who was shopping with them. These things are part of the same reality, but their perception isn't capable, due to the decisions they have made. So it could be said that the schools are invisible...from the point of view of someone who can't even see half of what's visible.
-
There were a LOT of trivial ones. And the ones that mattered...just because we were unaware of those ideas at the time doesn't mean they weren't discussed. A lot.
-
Reading the wikipedia page, for the most part they weren't accurate.

Thanks for letting everyone know! Looks like a great program.

That was a pretty serious post, for a PUA... (not offended, or attempting to offend in saying that...just thinking that mindset probably isn't serving you well, despite its truth in regards to most people)

If the Universe gives you the power & authority to destroy this old world so that a new, better world can be reborn..

Only parts of it, at the right times. Not the whole thing, at the wrong time. So: hell no. -

No one has this power, for more than one reason. -
