I need Book/Website Recommendations for Diets
Aetherous replied to DalTheJigsaw123's topic in General Discussion
I really like Maya Tiwari's book, even though it's only for a vegetarian diet. Trust your intuition in each moment...that's the best diet plan there is, in my view. -
Could this have a negative effect on my health?

When violent movements happen, it should be controlled. That is not correct practice and in my experience it will cause damage. Don't forcefully stop it, but instead favor stillness. The main cause of violent movements is, of course, favoring violent movements...so have the right intent for your practice. Realize that violent movements are first of all, pointless...and second of all, bad for you. Think of the name, "swaying willows and flowing breeze". There is nothing violent in that...it's incredibly gentle. The most your body should (be allowed to) do is move like a willow branch swaying in the calm breeze. The calm breeze represents your qi. You don't want a strong wind which breaks the branches...that's a deviation of the qi. Spontaneous happens when your energy hits a blockage, and there isn't enough flow...so the physical body moves to accomodate it. In some cases it self corrects the issue...in some cases it doesn't and actually makes it worse. No fear mongering there, that's just the truth. It's a good idea to do normal qigong, and build qi in the lower dantien...not only rely on spontaneous. Just my opinion. -
Eh, my view is that "there is a time for everything". RD tends to be my favorite practice. I agree, inner smile and Jenny's DVD are great.

Display my ignorance? Hell no! What's your view of it ChiDragon? -
2012 is going to be great...and I'm not just saying that in order to manifest it. Welcome!

To use your example... A blockage is like being unaware that you're clenching your fist. Our nervous system has adapted and become desensitized to it...so it stays that way. This is the reason for the dissolving practice that Frantzis teaches...practicing that method re-sensitizes those areas of the body, so that you can finally realize you're clenching, and let it go. This happens through moving the awareness within the body. The way I view it, this is almost exactly the same with doing the MCO with intention...except with that we aren't focusing on blockages. We're just flowing through (in that sense, it could be considered even more of a water method than dissolving). So as a result we become aware of the subtle blockages around the front and back channels (in addition to many other things), and if there are any blockages, they can be released. Anyway, not trying to convince you of anything...just chattin it up.

I like your points, Cam, and totally agree. Most of the time my path is 'letting go' and doing nothing. Sooooo easy! But reverse orbit has really interesting effects...it can be very deeply relaxing...so it's technically a "fire method" by definition, but its effect is like that of the water methods! Here is another way of classifying the two approaches: "Effort without force, softness, flow"...these are good descriptions for circulating the orbit with intention. To be forceful with it is to disturb the qi. The description of fire method as "pushing forward". What is the opposite of pushing? Pulling...and this is how the 'yi guides the qi'. Forceful would be the opposite, where yi tries to push the qi through the route. That doesn't work. Forward motion is related to the regular rotation of the orbit. If you were to spin a tennis ball in that direction, it would "move forward". But reverse orbit is related to falling back into your being...take the tennis ball and roll it in reverse, and it will come back to you. So, despite using intention, it can actually be considered quite the water method. If the results are that you relax on a really deep level, then it works. Speaking of this, you've inspired me to practice.

Feel free to argue...I want to know your point of view. I think mine is probably very similar actually. -

"Attraction is not a choice." What Drew does bypasses the mind and common sense altogether. That's most likely why the girl in the library was crying, because she didn't want to be feeling like that in the library! But she was. That's just one possible reason for her crying...I don't really know. Usually, I think, the mind will be pacified and there isn't any resistance. People are able to operate on different levels depending on what causes them to move to that level. A really devoted housewife, for instance, could temporarily not even give a fuck about her husband and act like a...harlot. She is triggered to behave in a totally different way, and to her consciousness in the moment, it seems totally normal. This is what I mean by bypassing the mind and common sense. This is related to the whole "bad boy" thing...yet even more powerful because it's coming from a purely chemical standpoint. So what is the purpose of this? There really isn't a good one. Edit: Also, because this is bypassing common sense, the usual aspects of sexuality and relationship don't play into it. So for some reason, if a girl is given an orgasm like this, it's not viewed (by her, usually) as something corrupt and sleazy. Talking about it, it seems like that wouldn't make sense...and it doesn't at all. It's weird. -
Oh yes, just looked them up and then recalled that they are in the book, "Foundations of Internal Alchemy". The thing about intention MCO is that it does both "ni" and "shun". What is your understanding of these terms, snowmonki?
-
snowmonki, Thanks for the Chinese words...will look them up!
-
There is a reason for opening the MCO indirectly...then there is a reason for circulating it with your intention directly. And also a reason for other methods inbetween the two opposite ways, such as focusing on various points in succession as in SFQ's small universe. To say that pure intention methods are wrong, harmful, or less beneficial is completely false. They are awesome, if you've been taught a good one!
-
I prefer things very unforced and natural, as well...but sometimes using intention to guide the qi is a very natural thing. If it were forced, bad things would happen.

A native American teacher recently told me that men are more suited for being healers, whereas women are typically more like...sorceresses or something...but that they are much more powerful by nature. He said, "hell hath no fury" and to be careful with them. Of course this is all generalizations. He said, when they do ceremonies, the women form a circle around the medicine man, facing outward, acting as spiritual protection.

Actually, no system insists on full lotus. SFQ doesn't. Only the forum member "full lotus" does. To answer your question, there are a lot of systems that are talked about here on the forum. I suggest you hang around and see what would best fit you. Since this is a SFQ thread, speaking about everything except SFQ might not be a good idea...maybe make a new thread. Then you can tell people more of what you're looking for.

Well, I would like to reverse (haha) the question...what does the fire path accomplish? In my experience, wind path is very relaxing, normalizing, cooling, and healing. I guess you could say it's more spiritual as well. On the other hand, I don't have much experience with fire circulation. If you're already getting those benefits from reverse, then does fire cover anything that wind doesn't?
-
You mean moving with just your intention? Yeah that can cause problems if you don't really ground, more or less depending on the method. I was recently playing around with something I came up with myself, and really got super ungrounded for like 2 weeks. Finally getting over it.

Moderators, Do not threaten to ban members when they are behaving themselves perfectly. No one here has an obligation to be trustworthy to you (if they do, then I ask for you to all share your full names and home addresses, so that we know we can trust you)...the only obligation any member has is to contribute to this forum appropriately. No, there is no such rule. The mods have no right to say whether anyone uses one or not, especially when you bring up the point about trying to prevent being hacked...and that you aren't using one exactly. Speaking personally, in the past I've had problems with the moderators. To give a scenario...if they chose to ban me permanently, it would be a personal issue and not a matter of myself disrupting the forum. In my opinion, I have the right to come back anonymously and behave appropriately...without the mod-team's judgmental disposition weighing down on my use of this forum. The key here is behaving appropriately...aka following the actual rules, which are clearly listed. So yes, moderators, please don't ban bowowtao. Let go of your need to control everything...let it be!

About crossing the eyes...I suggest you try to find that same advice in other books on Taoist alchemy. If it's not there, maybe you shouldn't believe in it! It's wise to consider that the author misunderstood, mistranslated, mispracticed, etc. It's usually recommended that you have a living teacher for very good reasons. And they recommend that you don't teach others without being an authentic teacher, for very good reasons. ... About being judgmental...it's totally fine in my view if people here share their experiences, and their insights. That's what this forum is about! But it's not fine to make authoritative statements when you're essentially just inventing your own spiritual path (full lotusism?). Have some humility. You will mislead others... ...and that is when I step in. Not saying I am putting myself in a position to lead anyone here...that's not the purpose of this forum, and it's not why I'm here. But I am here to be a voice of reason in the midst of an amateur parading around as a teacher of these paths. I do consider a lot of what he says to be completely false, not just for me and my own path, but for everyone. So, I just hope that we all can be led to the correct way. If I have to be "judgmental" in order to protect some beginners, then so be it.
