This was kind of cool to see the other day, to get an idea of the trading software... I looked into this company, Citadel...you need to be a multi millionaire to invest with them and get in on this type of trading!

We can, or we can't...the answer is kind of nebulous, a lot like them.

Let's talk more about this. I've decided to invest a small amount soon, and want to do a mix of bitcoin and various alt coins. What exchanges do you personally use...and what ones are something people should avoid (due to them holding your money, losing it, etc)? What alt coins do you think are a good idea? It makes sense to me to find a bunch that are super cheap and invest a little (essentially money that you're okay with losing) in each. ... Some potentially useful info: avoiding Coinbase fees with GDAX. Using this method, one can get bitcoin, bitcoin cash, ethereum, and litecoin. ... Guys, feel free to school me if you think any info is foolish.

Dantiens and Chakras - the same or different?
Aetherous replied to amoyaan's topic in General Discussion
I think they are only concepts, which point toward the reality of what's in us and how we function. I don't really find them as useful models. -
Dantiens and Chakras - the same or different?
Aetherous replied to amoyaan's topic in General Discussion
It's cool to read the etymology and history of the word "chakra". And the history of "dantian". Fabrizio Pregadio translated the first mention of the dantian from the Laozi Zhong Jing here. Both of these concepts aren't as ancient as we might assume, and it's cool to see when they began and what existed before. -

http://iapsop.com/ This is another one, not related to Dan Brown or the Ritman Library. (it's most useful when using the search function) -
Is it true that focusing on developing your middle dantian (heart), also develops and refines the upper and lower dantians too?
Aetherous replied to Ryan94's topic in Daoist Discussion
I think there is some truth to that. More so than thinking of it as being like the heart area of the physical body, I think it's good that metta is focused on the elevated feelings and intentions of infinite (directed toward literally every being without exception) compassion and loving-kindness. Those genuine feelings are much more important than meditating on the physical area of the heart, although there is resonance with these feelings in that area. -
Wow, they used to be that high? I guess high yield is pretty lame considering inflation this past year was like 2.1% (at least from what I read). Still...better to have money that's sitting around making something, as opposed to making nothing.
-
There are more of these high yield savings accounts coming out, and they're getting better each year it seems. Just saw Marcus by Goldman Sachs with their 1.5% APY savings account, which appears all good to me at a quick glance. There are other options out there, too.

In TCM, they blame some health problems on things like eating too high of fat, or too high of sugar, etc. They usually recommend to avoid wheat, dairy, processed foods, raw or cold foods, for dealing with dampness and helping the spleen to function well...but not everything is absolute. Some Chinese medicine practitioners throughout history have said it's okay to drink milk, or they use wheat in some herbal formulas, for example. So...steam some different veggies, have some rice, some lean meat...that's not a bad meal. There's a tradition that says to chew the food really well, and to eat in a relaxed environment...also, Sun Simiao said to take a short walk after eating a meal...and all of that makes it have an even better effect on the digestion, so that meals are light and nutritious, rather than heavy. Notice the difference in some of the words I used..."too much" fat, versus "some" cooked veggies. It's not just what you eat (fat vs cooked veggies), but the proportions. Overeating a meal in general taxes the spleen, and eating too much of some things can cause imbalance. In one of the oldest herbal books, the Shang Han Lun, it says that recovering from an illness requires eating smaller amounts so that the spleen will recover. In Chinese Medicine, the spleen and stomach are often considered the source of our life, since we derive our qi and blood through those organs. Imagine how you feel when you eat a deep fried piece of chicken on a donut bun with icing on top...you'll probably notice that you don't feel quite as good as normal afterward, to say the least. That's an example of "too much" of something. When you eat "some" of foods (a moderate amount), you'll notice that you feel more normal. It's a light meal, meaning that the digestion of the food doesn't cause any symptoms...you almost feel as if you hadn't eaten anything, although you're not having hunger symptoms. So that's all a small aspect of dietary advice they adhere to. Exercise should be moderate...sedentary is not considered healthy due to causing stagnation, but neither is doing too much which is said to tax the kidneys. Movement in general is considered theoretically to be in line with the principle of life...so doing easier things like qigong, yoga, or walking throughout the day can be viewed as better than, let's say, a 10 minute HIIT session. Sleep should be at night, since that's the natural time of rest. We should follow the seasons...basically, don't wake up at 5 am and run a marathon in the middle of winter. Most people could probably get away with it, at least without noticing bad symptoms for a little while, but it's going against what is natural (which is, to want to sleep in when it's dark, to want to take it easy during the winter months, and to not be out in the bitter cold, especially if sweating and exerting oneself).

Just saw this at the bookstore the other day, and was very impressed...basic personal finance knowledge as infographics: https://www.amazon.com/Infographic-Guide-Personal-Finance-Everything/dp/1507204663/

Sometimes simple things are really nice. This promotes qi and blood circulation, as well as warming, in painful areas (especially ones that are cool to the touch) so that the body can self-heal them. (but don't use on an acute injury within the first 72 hours...this is best for chronic cases). Get a 100% cotton pillowcase, and put some basmati rice inside of it. Heat it up in the microwave until it's warm (100% cotton is safe for this)...for me it's about 2 minutes plus some, but it might be less for you. Put it on any painful area that you have, and/or areas of skin that are cold to the touch. It shouldn't be so hot that it burns your skin, but should feel like a comfortable penetrating warmth. It lasts quite a while naturally...much longer than I anticipated. It's an added benefit that it has a pleasant scent because of the basmati. Anyone got other simple therapies?

For getting back to having good hydration, this is something that works very well in my experience... Get a camelback (a water container with tube and mouthpiece). When you're laying around, hang it above your head...keep the piece in your mouth when take small sips whenever desired. It's easier to drink water when you don't have to pick something up. Small sips are processed by the stomach within a minute or two, it seems...so taking a sip every few minutes keeps the hydration going in. Lay around for hours, get rehydrated for hours.

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitfinex/btcusd Price has dropped a lot today. This link is cool because you can watch the price fluctuate in your browser's tab. (seems that the price on there is not the same as on other platforms...I don't know what I'm talking about with this stuff, so don't listen to me)

I never had an actual bucket list, until last night, when I first saw this photo of Zion National Park in Utah.
-
The implications are interesting, in that it's finally a global currency (is that a good thing?), which isn't subject to harmful fluctuations of a local currency (that's a good thing).

I'm hearing the news this year, and seriously wishing I had listened to that weird internet person I encountered like 5 years ago talking about investing in Bitcoin. edit: I'm choosing not to invest now...it's good to invest when costs are low, not when they're doing really well. Although, it could take off in the decades to come.

Daoism is about underachieving. Just think of Zhuangzi's story of the turtle.
