  1. CIA's proof of telepathy

Fascinating. Here is the CIA release.
  2. Inauguration Events

I wouldn't say many (which would imply something even close to 50% of veterans)...but there are a number.
  3. Inauguration Events

    Is this military versus gay?
  4. Inauguration Events

Being a veteran, I see nothing wrong with military parades. Aside from the annoyance of taking part in them.
  5. Ming Stages/Replenishing Yuan Qi/Ming Gong

Actually, the two have been intertwined throughout Chinese history. The idea of ming (life/destiny) being Kidney jing (which includes prenatal jing) is the same concept that the Russian school believes in.
  6. Ming Stages/Replenishing Yuan Qi/Ming Gong

That would affect the lifespan, too, because the system is sick...but those aren't considered to be the direct measure of lifespan. Also, I think we'd call those things 'spleen yin' and 'lung yin' in modern times.
  7. Ming Stages/Replenishing Yuan Qi/Ming Gong

It could be thought that ming is the same as Kidney jing, because that represents our lifespan (provided we don't die of other causes).
  8. Ming Stages/Replenishing Yuan Qi/Ming Gong

Ming means life or destiny. All living people have it.
  9. Inauguration Events

โ€‹The story was different for the past 8 years...(although, yes, any group of people is equally capable of violence...the question is if they actually follow through with it) The victim mindset is a horrible thing, because it enables the supposed victim to seek vengeance and feel justified in doing so. False consensus effect causes the person to not even hear that they're wrong. It's actually a great thing that you're here, because you're confronted with a different opinion than that of your typical friends and family. That truism which I always state, which I believe is always 100% effective in every case, "When you point your finger, there are three pointing back at you" is needed at times like these. The left has this tendency to think that the right is violent and evil and needs to be stopped...but by using violent and evil means? Let's think about that.
  10. Can someone here educate me on zhan zhuang?

The weight of the body on the feet physically opens the Kidney-1 acupoint...which causes that channel to have more qi flow. This stokes the Kidney yang, which causes yuan qi to travel through the entire body and promote normal function. You can feel the yang if your abdomen ever gets warm on the inside during practice. If you feel the warmth rising up from the abdomen, it's good to eat less damp foods so that it stays down there. This yang also warms the stomach, which helps the digestive process extract nourishment from what we eat and drink. Since it's a practice that increases yang, it's good to be well hydrated and nourished to have a more balanced effect.
  11. Inauguration Events

    They're wrong.
  12. Inauguration Events

Actually, I saw a ton from the left...actually people being beaten by mobs...and I can recall one Trump supporting old guy who hit someone once and went to court over it.
  13. Inauguration Events

How does it prove that? What has "the right" done that's comparable to such a thing?
  14. Inauguration Events

I hope they try it. Not for the sake of anyone getting hurt...but it only proves that the better side won this time.
  15. no one is guilty

Everyone has Buddha nature. No one is innocent. Some are guilty.
  16. Gaining Enlightenment in 10 sentences or less

If we're talking about Buddhist enlightenment, yes. Enlightenment is liberation from these things...peace.
  17. Gaining Enlightenment in 10 sentences or less

    1) Be totally honest with yourself about everything. If you're not, you won't attain enlightenment. 2) If you ever experience a negative emotion, you're still unenlightened...unequivocally. Also, refer back to rule 1 for those times that you think you have no negative emotions. Give it a minute and you'll soon realize that you are truly unenlightened. 3) Don't stop seeking until you've found the true way, and don't stop walking the path once you have. Avoid pitfalls that sound like true ways. 4) Enlightenment, your goal, needs a clear definition of what it is and what it isn't. While you can't personally define it due to having no experience of it, if you've found a true way, the teachers can provide its definition. To some extent, all definitions are inadequate, because it's only experiential knowledge that matters here. Beware of following false definitions, and spreading them. 5) You have to care more about achieving that than about anything else in your life. So now that you know what it is, and you know the true way of how to go about achieving it, it's simply a matter of following through and not being overly distracted by other cares.
  18. Raw garlic

A general rule of thumb with using medicinal substances: if its flavor and effects are harmonious, it's for longevity and can be taken long term...if its flavor and effects are harsh, it's for treating acute conditions.
  19. Giving someone constructive criticism

Doesn't your friend have some good qualities? Focus on those. Viewing our friends as negative or unbearable to be around is a problem in us, not necessarily in them.
  20. Lets Talk Obama - Was he a good President?

The color of his skin had NOTHING to do with it, in the minds of these people? I think it was part of his campaign's brand...representing hope and change to turn what was perceived as the corrupt system on its head (which up until that point was 100% old white men; Obama being more youthful and part-Black)...someone who was of a race that was previously enslaved by the country, now its President. It's a powerful concept...and it moved people. Enough to do stupid things, like give a Nobel Peace Prize for nothing. Pre-emptively. lol We should ask ourselves with honesty: if it had been a white man running an anti-Bush-GWOT campaign, would he also have gotten this peace prize? ...not as powerful of a brand, is it?
  21. Study of Logic

V Necessary conditions "P is necessary for Q, because P being true is needed for Q to be true".Sufficient conditions "R is sufficient for S, because R is all you need to get S; R is enough to get S".Four potential combinations of necessary and sufficient: Necessary and Sufficient. Placing an order and paying for food is both necessary and sufficient for receiving that food. Necessary but not Sufficient (something that's needed for something else, but not enough for it) Moderate exercise on its own is necessary for health, but it's not sufficient because other things are needed as well...like a good diet. Sufficient but not Necessary Giving your dog a treat is sufficient to make him happy...but it's not necessary. He can be happy because of other reasons, such as throwing a ball. Neither Necessary nor Sufficient Mixing ingredients together is not sufficient to get a piece of cake, and it's also not necessary when you can just as easily go to the store and buy a piece of cake. Background assumptions We assume that things are working in a normal way...for instance, when ordering food at a restaurant, we assume that a meteor won't hit it. Or we assume that there aren't free french fries offered that day.
  22. Financial tips for the bums

I was just reading yesterday about building credit...they say to not pay off purchases immediately, but simply pay the bill once the charges are on the billing statement, before the due date. It's good to stay in 8-9% utilization for building credit (spending 8-9% of the amount of credit available). Then, know when your closing date is...and make your purchases with credit the day or so after, so it shows up on the next bill. This all amounts to keeping utilization pretty much constant and in the right amount they want to see. It's also good once credit is doing well to have a few different cards, and do the above for all of them. When credit is excellent, apparently you can use up to 30% utilization. All of this would require some skill with budget spreadsheets, I think...keeping track of the exact funds to pay these credit bills, separate from your other money.
  23. Financial tips for the bums

    That's per month? Ouch.
  24. Financial tips for the bums

So in this thread we've got a plan to potentially have no expenses for food (with urban homesteading)...no expenses for shelter... Another big drain on a monthly budget is auto. One idea is that people can get a moped if they only ever travel short distances on low MPH roads...which saves on gas money and generally doesn't require paying for insurance (besides car payments, car insurance payments are another drain on funds). There is walking, biking, and riding the bus, for the bohemians among us. A friend of mine who didn't have a car for a while, if he wanted to get out of town for a weekend, would find deals with car rental agencies...and that was really his only car expense. Some financial experts also recommend to buy a used car in full...if it has a history of being maintained well, is a model that's easy to repair, and has relatively low mileage, then it's a fair choice.. They say you can use it for 3 years, then turn around and sell it for the same price you paid for it. In some cases you can make money by doing this. By hopping from car to car, one could drive for life with a car payment of just a few thousand dollars (aside from seeing the mechanic, which is always painful, unless you are one).
  25. Financial tips for the bums

That was really cool, and something I'm going to look into in a few years. ... Another idea about owning your own home: renting out a spare room. Let's say renting a lower end apartment is about $700/month locally...by renting out one of the rooms, one can easily get nearly that much in extra cash each month (minus the additional use of electricity, water, etc). If a mortgage or HELOC were lower monthly payments than renting, perhaps you could basically own a house for free.
