Very good translation of the lords prayer
Aetherous replied to Edward M's topic in General Discussion
This is really great stuff for the Christian to read and consider. I wouldn't go so far to say that I believe it's completely accurate, but it's thought provoking to say the least, and has me interested in learning more from the author.- 9 replies

Whatever works best for you. Many styles of qigong are designed to make people feel qi. However, feeling qi is not necessarily skillful use of qi. What is better...going for a hike through the woods, or practicing something which causes weird sensations but you get no exercise? In truth, the one that includes physical exercise is much better for us.

Seems like a good book, worthy of purchasing!

Motion and rest...seems to me to refer back to Genesis. God moved over the waters, and on the 7th day rested. I know...not mystical and fun.

Such jobs are worthless in an economy where even the minimum wage doesn't permit survival.
-
Truth. I can tell you all, as a grad student who tries to find summer work...it's hard out there. I got hired last summer when a hotel was bought out by a larger hotel management chain...they had to fire all illegal workers, which is the only thing that opened up the job for me. I had spent about 2 months applying to places prior to that. I got paid minimum wage, and worked over 60 hours a week due to them being understaffed...it really sucked. But it was nice to put food on the table for myself. There are many American citizens who are in need of this...the actual unemployment percentage is much higher than is reported. Also, it helps us Americans to learn the value of our money and of putting in your best work...helps us become humble. Americans can benefit from these jobs in more ways than simply earning pocket change. And...is it acceptable to give these jobs to illegals, and underpay them? It's hard enough to survive on minimum wage...must be really challenging on illegal pay. In America we shouldn't have the equivalent of sweat shops, which create poverty conditions due to their low wages. If we're accepting these people into our country, why don't we at least treat them humanely? If a job can't afford to pay minimum wage for a position, then is it viable?

Yes, those things happened more or less (some of them not, such as the US Army intentionally spreading small pox)...but those things were not directly related to the founding of the US...in other words, the founding of America was a positive thing, as can be seen in the Declaration of Independence. The US was not founded on slavery and genocide...in fact, the Declaration says that all men are created equal. The authors weren't saying, as some assert, that blacks and Native Americans were not actually men...it says all men. These kinds of principles are what the country was founded upon.

You weren't stating a fact based on anything Trump actually said or did...therefore what you were saying about him (for instance, that he wants to build a wall to keep people he is racially prejudice against out of the country) was completely untrue. It might be your opinion, a conclusion you drew by taking things he has said a step further in your own mind, but it's still definitely something untrue...which is slander. I am not at all wishing to say "you are slanderous liminal_luke!", but I am definitely wishing to point out that this behavior of the left, particularly about this issue, has been slanderous. People think a candidate is unqualified and potentially dangerous, without sufficient reason, and usually just because the rest of the herd is acting the same way, so they go to whatever lengths to try and make that candidate lose, including sacrificing their own integrity by making up lies about the person in order to attempt to take them down a notch.
-
On the previous page I mention how Trump is slandered without reason...this is a prime example. Slander is specifically something negative that's said about a person which is untrue...unlike the other candidates, who have negative things said about them which are accurate. There is a lot that Trump says plainly for himself which we can say is bad...but why use inaccuracies to make him look bad? Wanting to deport illegals, to build a border wall, to not accept refugees which have been infiltrated by a terrorist organization...these things do not make a racist. I realize that it's the cool thing to do in 2016 to point out that every little thing is racist, but it'd be nice if we started thinking critically here and not just following the trend.
-
That's one way of looking at things. I definitely do not view the founding of the US to be directly related to black slavery and Native American genocide, but everyone chooses their perception.
-
You can tell that a person is genuine when the masses slander their name without sufficient reason. I suspect that the reverse is true, when the masses praise someone's name without sufficient reason...

Your jing is not falling to the ground, and your dai mai is not in your chest. If you have body sensations, such as some kind of qi going to the ground a few times a day, it doesn't mean that's your jing. If you feel like your chest is full, that doesn't mean your belt channel is there.

www.pegym.com Where there is a will there is a way. Don't be a victim of life's circumstances...do what it takes to be a master of those circumstances. If this is a problem for you, there is a way to solve it! ... Also, your issue is psychological. You believe that your penis size isn't good enough, and go around the internet finding proof to confirm your belief. Seek and you'll find. In actuality, it doesn't matter, and the women who write on that website are probably not the type you want to be with anyway. But yeah, it's possible to increase your size, regardless of the fact that the problem here is psychological.

Using chi or thoughts to manifest cash flow?
Aetherous replied to Goldleaf's topic in General Discussion
I think law of attraction can be very useful, especially for noticing opportunities as well as focusing on goals and desires rather than being scattered and distracted from them...but what's absolutely useful is earning what you get through actually working. The work could even be ludicrously lucrative...but if it's a legitimate way, then you'll be good to go. Sounds like the course most likely won't happen unless someone you know chips in. Perhaps you should be open to that rather than refuse all help. Maybe you'd be willing to pay the person back with interest. Speaking of which, there is always the credit card option. -
How will this religion benefit a person who practices it, more so than any other that already exists?

It's one of the best things in the world to exercise. Although don't go to extremes...such as really high intensity interval training, running long marathons, lifting weights to the point where you're about to reach failure or if you're plateauing at a certain high weight for a long time, etc. It's kind of true that being out of breath means qi shortage...but it's only pathological if it's abnormal, like you walk up a flight of stairs and have to catch your breath for 5 minutes or something. Exercise trains us so that we gradually experience less shortness of breath with more activity. Skipping exercise because someone who calls themselves a Daoist says to is a really bad idea. You'll be less healthy! Doing zhan zhuang in a sauna sounds like a bad idea to me, personally. Zhan zhuang increases internal warmth on its own, and adding external warmth while promoting a sweat that doesn't come from movement...just seems like it could be harmful.

Jing of embryonic breathing (胎息經)
Aetherous replied to exorcist_1699's topic in Miscellaneous Daoist Texts & Daoist Biographies
It's pretty clear what it is, both based on the name as well as that description...no guesswork required. Embryonic breathing has to do with not breathing...without inhaling through nose or mouth. It even describes why it's called embryonic breathing...because babies in the womb don't breathe through the nose or mouth. For the same thing from a different school of thought, look into kevala kumbhaka. But if you're saying that they were really trying to describe the internal elixir by saying "embryonic breathing"...well, perhaps that's actually a different thing. -

Please go on...especially with quoting the text. I'm pretty set in my ways on this subject, but do like to be challenged to a new POV. -

Anybody want to share healing techniques?
Aetherous replied to manitou's topic in General Discussion
No, definitely take action...in changing your perception of that person, from a sick person to a vibrantly healthy person. That provides the option for them to become vibrantly healthy, whereas if you continue to view them as sick only, you're not facilitating healing. We should always try our best to heal when asked, and I don't believe that sickness is part of the natural order. -
Anybody want to share healing techniques?
Aetherous replied to manitou's topic in General Discussion
A technique... When you see the patient as being sick, your mindset is blocking their healing. Another way of saying this is that you're manifesting their illness. "Healing" (as differentiated from medical types of healing, which involve alleviating symptoms) is on the level of the soul, which impacts the body. So "healing" at times just benefits them on a deep level while maintaining physical complaints, or sometimes addresses those complaints as well as a byproduct. Whereas medical types of healing primarily address the complaints, but not the soul itself. Each person has their subjective universe where their perceptions dictate what they think reality is, and when two people meet, those differing perceptions collide and can influence each other to some extent. Sickness exists because of flawed perception. We think sickness is part of reality, and...so be it. When you see a person as being sick, in a certain sense it's like you have the perception of their soul as being imperfect. That who they are is diseased. It might be the case that the patient's flawed perception created their illness in the first place, but it's absolutely the case that if you're seeing them as sick, then that's entirely a matter of your own perception. The subjective universes collide, and maybe the patient who previously felt totally normal suddenly begins to feel sick and as if they have a problem. Sometimes this is entirely due to the healing practitioner causing that, and the only thing the patient did was trust them. So it can help to see the patient as being healthy, as having the potential to become even healthier, etc. Poor prognosis is a self perpetuating cycle. Perhaps being a healer is mostly self-work: working on our own perceptions of others. They say that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"...basically meaning that when you see something as beautiful, it's actually you that is beautiful...beauty is held in your perception alone, and not necessarily in the object of perception. It follows that if you see sickness everywhere, the lens of your perception has been fogged up by "sickness". If you find it hard to see the person as having radiant health (which they do, in truth, if they're walking talking and breathing), at least rid yourself of the perception that there's something wrong with the patient, so that they at least have the chance for change and impermanence to rid them of whatever problems there are, instead of the practitioner. The truth is that our true nature is totally well. When a practitioner looks at us and thinks that WE are unhealthy, they're plainly wrong. Who we are is the greatest health. If you can also view patients in this light, perhaps it will help them naturally heal. It's also been said to visualize them as if they were healthy, if you have trouble seeing them as such. Or some people might be able to more easily understand when put this way - just manifest the person as being healthy and forget about illness. Just some thoughts.
