Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of others...so self-defense and defending others is good. When you take care of yourself at the expense of others, it becomes destructive to you primarily (in terms of your soul), and others secondarily. Buddhists tend to think that any thought revolving around the self is tied to suffering. It's considered to be dualistic thought (self, vs all that is not the self)...and the idea of your self is considered to be the root of all negative emotions. Instead of thinking that this means you shouldn't take care of yourself at all, it's actually just having to do with what you're doing with your mind. You should take care of yourself. Part of taking care of yourself involves penetrating through illusory thoughts of being a self. Another part involves protecting your body from enemies (if you actually have any). Just some ideas.

Sunbathe often. Fix the low T somehow...don't over-exert yourself in exercising, but make sure you're getting some squats in your routine. What you feel when releasing is the true effect when done to a certain point (destructive to the soul), and it means you need to back off of releasing that often. Like maybe you go on a long retention streak, but then you do it a few days in a row. Instead of doing it in a row, you should just do one day, then take at least 3 days off. By doing this, you'll ensure that your reserves are being built back up from the release. Drink lots of spring water each day to ensure the system is running properly. If you find a good qigong method, it can help you somewhat. I would also advise you to see a Chinese herbalist/acupuncturist, although I know it can be hard to afford that more than a few times. But it's very worth it, because we're talking at this point about your soul (what you feel is being lost when releasing) and your lifespan as well as quality of life. The practitioner will help you get to a point where these things are no longer concerns, so it's worth the money, to improve your cultivation. Oh yeah, also, it helps to write out your likes and dislikes about your current situation, write down what you can do about those dislikes, write down your goals in terms of what you want your life to be about, and write down your ideal life or if your dreams could come true what that would be like. This will help set you up for success, and is a very masculine practice. Do it often.

Seems to me like a good idea to create a men's forum. Women don't have to deal with all of the semen retention ideas in their cultivation, so why should they be subjected to its discussion? It can make the site seem weird for those who don't know that Daoism has a history of this. Also, there are other subjects men could probably discuss amongst themselves which don't pertain to women...for instance, some members discuss PUA ideas here, or just ideas in general about how to develop relationships with women (not just pick them up)...or how to be better men, which can be a slightly different discussion from how to be a better human being, depending on who you are.

Interesting! I look forward to this release and hearing reviews of the book...or possibly purchasing it prior to reading reviews.- 15 replies

They should only charge that much if it works. If it doesn't work, we have greed, as well as incompetence.

Can anyone help with this possible predicament?
Aetherous replied to FacelessDeer's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like a not good situation all around. If I were you, I would pray a lot, especially first thing in the mornings, asking for protection, guidance, help, communion only with beings who are good (like God, angels, wise helpers, immortals, bodhisattvas, etc). Pray for guidance in being the best person you can be, and to be relieved of all negativity and attacks. Pray for guidance into a new kind of life...it sounds to me like you need some change...perhaps to move to a new area and leave all of these people behind. I would personally advise not to listen to all of the strange talk, like about fairies and conjurings. Kunlun tends to be a very opening up practice. This can be okay if you are able to focus, and thus attract only the right things into your life. But if you are attracting the wrong things, then it's not the best. A good practice is to know exactly what you want in your life...write out your likes and dislikes for all things that are happening. For instance, if your dislike is, "I dislike being drained during sex with people, and I dislike being attacked by people cursing me"...then you can state it in a positive way: "I really want to be with someone who has healthy sex with me, and I really want to have protection from all curses and have a blessed life". Or however you truly want to state it. When you know what you want, then you can also focus on making those things happen for yourself (God helps those who help themselves), and avoiding situations which have nothing to do with what you want. If you do all that you can to help yourself, and know clearly what you want, then the higher powers will help you. Basically, take hold of the wheel of your life and drive yourself...rather than allowing the car to go any which way, and flying off into a ditch. It's your car/it's your life. Your post is passive...all of these things are happening to you, as if you're like a ragdoll with no willpower or ability to do anything (even your screenname, "faceless" speaks toward this). The solution is to become active...make things happen that you want. Know what you want. Have a face. Don't be a deer in the headlights. Be the headlights of the car driving toward the deer (the deer in this case being all that you don't want), and drive forward by your own power toward your ideal life, no matter what. Hit the deer if you must (this might take the form of leaving your so called friends), but continue to drive straight down the road toward what is good. Just some thoughts for you, best wishes. -
Your mala sounds like an amazing treasure.

Filling up the lower Dan Tien- How and Why
Aetherous replied to thelerner's topic in Daoist Discussion
It's normal for pretty much all schools to have rules of secrecy about certain things. Keeping what's entrusted to you is of prime importance. The difference is that pretty much every other school is readily available to learn from...most people at this forum don't live in, or have the ability to travel to Russia, for instance, and even if they do, maybe they aren't accepted by the school. Not saying this is an excuse for displays of frustration here. It's just an explanation for the frustration. No one likes to be told that everything they've known is just plain wrong, and that the truth is there, but is basically unattainable. People like to be pointed to the true way, and to be able to practice the true way. -

Qi Meridians and Acupuncture points
Aetherous replied to Immortal4life's topic in General Discussion
Thank you very much! On the clock, the 3 yang of the six divisions (taiyang, shaoyang, yangming), are always immediately next to each other; the urinary bladder directly follows the small intestine...the gallbladder directly follows the sanjiao...the stomach directly follows the large intestine. Whereas the yin divisions are further apart. Just wondering why or if this has any significance...maybe not, as you said, these are different lenses. In addition to wondering about the significance of why certain yin organ systems are following each other in the clock, such as the Pericardium following the Kidney, the Lung following the Liver, the Heart following the Spleen. -
Low energy after Osho meditation and energy work

Different practices have differing effects. If you do zhan zhuang, or else some sort of lower dantian method, you'll likely experience increased energy...best to do them in the morning, so that you won't be wide awake when bedtime comes around. -
Qi Meridians and Acupuncture points
Aetherous replied to Immortal4life's topic in General Discussion
I wonder about the meridian clock. What is the significance of Lung being considered the starting point, rather than any other organ...and why at 3 am? Why are the yang divisions (as in the six divisions) next to one another, but the yin divisions separated? How does this circuit make sense in relation to the wu xing and the various cycles, such as generating, controlling, overacting, insulting? What is the significance of the Lung being after the Liver, the Heart being after the Spleen, and the Pericardium being after the Kidney, in this progression of the circuit? Thanks for any insights. -
For someone who didn't laugh, what you just said was pretty damn funny.

Well, it could be said that becoming a reiki practitioner or yoga teacher is an ego thing, too. All of that stuff veers on the side of "spiritual materialism" rather than mature spiritual cultivation. And on the other hand, it could be said that men have a strong passion for various topics, to the point of obsession. I mean is there a single female cultivator who takes it to the level that Drew Hempel does, for instance (not that I agree with half of what he thinks)? But then again, the same could be said for women, such as the one in my class...there is true passion and discipline there. Who knows.
-
Here's something grounded in real life: just started acupuncture school (which is pretty esoteric I guess), and the class is 4 men and 14 women. Some of the women are just as passionate about various subjects as I am...and perhaps are even more disciplined in their approach and implementation of their interests than I am. But I guess they treat these subjects differently than guys...I don't think any of them use this forum. For me, it's incredibly challenging to elucidate the way that they are different in general, or the way they treat these subjects. Anything I can think of to say, ends up being wrong in some sense. It's hard to pin them down and put them in a conceptual box, as women. As individuals I can easily say one is very passionate about using herbs in cooking...she was already doing that before attending school. I've seen what she eats for meals, and it's mostly home cooked and healthy food. The passion and the discipline are there for her, whereas I have nothing to show for this stuff. Another girl on the other hand, might have barely any passion or discipline at all, and maybe chose this school on a whim. Or maybe it's a feminine choice in our culture to attend acupuncture school. So to make a blanket statement about all of them, is misleading. To make a blanket statement about our class size, such as "women are more interested and dedicated to these arts than men" would also be false, if we consider the passion and discipline of the men in the class, compared to all of the women. I'm sure there's a mathematical formula to come up with the answer.

The truth about White privilege
Aetherous replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in The Rabbit Hole
While I think it's pretty ignorant to say that it's "obvious" from across an ocean, I have been surprised to see more diversity of race in UK tv shows. I personally think that the black culture here in the US separates itself. For instance, if you ever see any black comedy tv shows, most of the talk (97% of it) is regarding racial issues...when in reality, there might be some injustice against blacks that we should be seeking to eliminate, but there isn't actually a huge racial divide. There is only the one you assume is there, and thus, create. And no whites are assuming it and creating it...well, apart from the KKK or something. Half of the time these black comedy tv shows are ripping on white guilt...whites are portrayed as apologetic and weak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHXwY1_n_cY I haven't been exposed to such a thing in UK tv shows...from what I've seen, all races are treated equally (and consider themselves equally) over there. But I can't be certain from across the ocean. -
Yes, when I did some strong detoxifying foods (like having a lot of raw garlic) I experienced the nostrils not working properly. Sooooooooo, these days I try my hardest not to eat things like garlic.

I'm not sure if you edited your post after the fact, or not (too busy/lazy to go back and find out)...but it's not like we'd stop getting along just because you posted what you did. It's all good. I understand the thing about making a good point that's well liked, but still somehow feels wrong to have done it. Just because a majority of people like something, does not make it right. Just because it's for the greater good, doesn't mean it's also for the lesser good. Not that any of us has to be right or good all of the time, in order to get along, or to be right or good people. Hope that makes sense.
