Theosis: Becoming Like God
goatguy-too replied to Jonesboy's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
The early church quickly abandoned anything that looked Hebrew, and by 400 AD, Augustine even claimed that the Septuagint was more reliable than the original Hebrew. They lost much concerning 'theosis' in doing so. The EO retains the closest understanding to the Hebrew scriptures (all NT teaching derives from OT mysteries) . The EO retain much of the teaching in cartoon form, but actually understand it better than the others because they retain it at all. Theosis is deification without becoming God. The EO do not claim to be made equal to God or of the same 'substance', but 'like' God. It is unfortunate that the words they use are so easily misunderstood. From the application of the rules of sensus plenior: Man is not made in the image and likeness of God. In Genesis 1, he said he would make them in his image and likeness, but only made the man in his image. The man is the symbol of Christ who is the express image of God. The woman (the church) is not made into his likeness until Chapter 5. The hidden story is how Christ had to die, then obtain his bride in order to be fruitful and multiplying. Christ is the image, the church is the likeness. Consider the virgin birth. Christ is the firstfruits of the Spirit. We are virgin born when we are born again of the Spirit. Correctly this is not the Protestant sanctification over time. It is a moment when the Spirit 'births' you. With Christ, you become fruitful by the fruit of the Spirit, and multiplying by teaching. As for the cartoon version: The Hebrew word for 'marriage' also means 'doctrine'. You were chosen to be the bride... to be taught. With eating as a metaphor for learning; the marriage supper of the lamb was the explosion of doctrine after the cross when the old teaching was replaced by the New Jerusalem; the 'New Teaching of Peace' which was hidden in the mystery of the old. The 28th letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the four prong shin. It is not used in any Hebrew word but is found on the garment of the priest. It's meaning is that which the prophets were not allowed to write, and sealed up. It's meaning is that we become co-heirs with Christ. Our union with God is so intimate that we would think we were equal to God if we had not already declared him alone to be God. This teaching was too much of a temptation for those who did not have the Spirit. The union with Christ occurs here while we are alive. The church (not a particular organization) is in reality the body of Christ having been made one flesh by the marriage-teaching. The evidence of theosis is the agape love shown by those who possess it. The Greeks think agape love is some sort of Greek super love. It is actually a Hebrew word (which Dr. Strong missed) meaning "the combatants. Agape love is the love you give your enemy with no expectation of return. While were were yet sinners and enemies of God, Christ died for us. This is the Agape Love of God. He enables his people to practice what he has practiced. Few there are. As for the immortality thing, it is a reality. Though we die we shall live. The fear of death enslaves people to sin, putting themselves first. Without that fear they are free to serve and even die for those who hate them. -

Pneumnemonics The Bible was written in Hebrew by Hebrews who thought and spoke in Hebrew. It was reinvented about 600 AD by adding modern vowels and then became a dead language. As the Zionist movement started to take root, Hebrew was reinvented again. [s 1] Now it is now studied largely in English by Westerners who adopted Greek philosophy, logic, rhetoric, debate, and even myth, or by those of other cultures influenced by such Western thought. Translations based on the re-invented Hebrew, each have their own purpose, and in any translation, there are things that are lost in translation. In Hebrew, the letters within words have meaning, and none of that is captured in any translation. The meaning of a word is derived from the combined meaning of the letters along with a knowledge of Christ. There is a riddle and mystery built into the language itself. But few consider the loss of these things because of the additions to the Hebrew language, to be significant. [1] This study is based on the Hebrew that Jesus read. We can recreate it by simply ignoring all the things added to Hebrew each time it was reinvented. We do not study it for the sake of simply understanding the literal-historical record of the Bible, but to learn what God says about himself hidden in the language making up the literal record. Mnemonics vs. Pneumnemonics A mnemonic device, or memory device, is any learning technique that aids information retention or retrieval in the human memory. [2] Dennis Congos [3] identifies nine types of mnemonic devices. These devices consist of ideas imposed upon the subject matter to be learned, that have no relationship to the subject, but are merely mental hooks to assist in the retrieval of information from memory. An example is the classic "Roy G. Biv" used to remember the order of colors in the rainbow. In Music theory, "Every good boy does fine" helps remember the notes associated with the lines on the score. The mnemonic devices aid only in memory and add no new information. One must learn gibberish in order to remember the important information. Imagine if the knowledge of "Roy G. Biv" could assist in helping you to understand more sophisticated concepts of color, rather than simple the order of colors in the rainbow. What if it told you something about how each color affects emotions, or contributes to heat retention. What if "Every good boy does fine" helped to define chords, melody, or to understand music. Pneu-mnemonics does just that. As you learn the Hebrew alphabet, the memory tools form a catechism of doctrine. They also help one shift from a Western-Greek way of thinking, to an Eastern-Hebrew thought process. There is a look-ahead function, where the mnemonics learned for the alphabet, get built upon as you learn vocabulary. Mnemonics are invented, based on studies of how the human mind works. Pneu-mnemonics are observed in scripture, placed there by the one who invented the human mind. The nature of learning The chair Imagine you have entered a foreign land and no one speaks your language, nor do you speak theirs. The master of the house points to a chair and says "beebop". So you point to the chair and repeat "beebop" assuming he is teaching you the language. He has you beaten. He was commanding you to sit. The idea behind "beebop" was not the same in your head and his. To pass an idea from one head to another, there must be sufficient shared experience with the idea. A servant has been assigned to teach you your manners, but he is clever enough to understand that you don't know the language. He points to the chair and says "beebop" then sits in it. He points to the rug and says "aybop" and sits on it. He points to the chair again and says "beebip" and begins to clean it. He points to the rug again and says "aybip" and starts to clean it. You determine from this short interaction that a chair is a 'bee' and a rug is an 'ay'. You also determine that 'bop' means to sit and 'bip' means to clean. You have collected experiences around the symbols; the words, which now form the basis for the ideas. Understanding is a process of filtering experiences in various contexts. Consider the word 'bear'. It is used in the context of carrying things, and also in the context of the zoo. The other words around it help to filter your experiences with 'bear' to understand what the current context means. Adam [4] The servant who taught you 'beebop' forced four experiences into your head which helped you filter the ideas and produce understanding. Hebrew does a similar thing, but in a different way. Hebrew pneumnemonics would take the chair apart, and teach you what a leg, seat and back are, then put it all back together. Adam came from the ground and is made up of blood and spirit. Ground The Hebrew word for 'ground' is adamah אדמה. [v 1] The ground is where Adam אדמ [5] came from. [s 2] The he ה means that the commandment was heard but not understood. 'Ground' אדמה is the Adam אדמ that doesn't understand ה. [6][s 3][q 1][a 1] The ground doesn't understand, but we are told that Adam does. When Adam sinned, he was not deceived like the woman. [s 4][q 2][a 2] Adam Adam אדם [7] is made of the Spirit א and the blood dam דם. [s 5][v 2] Blood Blood dam דם is the commandment ד fulfilled by the Son ם; a reference to the cross. It is a metaphor for 'life' [s 6][v 3][q 3] The mnemonics for Hebrew contain more information about the subject being learned. You will quickly see that the system of pneumnemonics is not imposed upon the language like common mnemonics, but is observed to already be there. Apostles used pneumnemonics Three in heaven 1Jo 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 1Jo 5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. John is using the pneumnemonics of the words 'heaven' shamayim שמים [v 4] and 'earth' eretz ארץ [v 5] to derive the doctrine that he is teaching. Father - מ Word (Son) - ם Spirit - ש Spirit - א Water - ר Blood - ץ Mountain to the sea Mt 21:21 ...if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. Joh 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth. The word for water is mayim מים. [v 6] See above that the mems represent the Father מ (Who is Spirit) and Son ם (Who is the Truth) [s 7] Jesus used the pneumnemonics of the word for water as he taught that religion would be replaced with true worship of God through Christ. The word 'mountain' har הר means - not understanding ה the revelation ר. [v 7] It is the place people worship who do not understand God. Formations Jots and tittles Mt 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Jesus could have said that not one commandment would pass from the law, but he chose to say that not one dot nor stroke would disappear. Jesus was introducing pneumnemonics to his hearers. Even the dots and strokes within the letters have meaning which are protected. All letters are formed by first drawing a yod, or jot. And then it is combined with vavs and yods to form each letter. The letters derive their meaning from the dots and strokes withing a square template. Formation, name, number, metaphor The letters have four sources for meaning: Formation is the meaning derived from the dots and strokes within the letter, and from gates and words found within. The example of 'ground' and 'Adam' above is 'formation'. name is the meaning of the words when the name of the letter is spelled out (ex. the aleph א has the Hebrew name alef which is spelled אלף which means one thousand [8]. number - each letter is also a number. The aleph is the number one. Consider the play in pneumnemonics when it is said that one day is like a 1000 years. The aleph represents 1 by it's number and 1000 by it's name. metaphor - metaphor when one of the meanings of the letter is used as a symbol for something completely different (ex. 1000 is a metaphor for king, so the aleph can also represent a king). It may seem a bit complicated with so many sources for meaning. Be encouraged that the one who designed pneumnemonics wants you to know him. Letters Another evidence that pneumnemonics is natural to the language is the message that is derived by reading the letters of the alphabet in numerical order. It is the short catechism of Christ. It not only helps you learn the alphabet, but teaches the doctrine of Christ. It is the Index for God's Systematic Theology, which you will build on as you continue to learn Hebrew words and read scripture. Aleph א - God spoke and created the heavens and the earth [9] Bet ב - He revealed to man Gimel ג - that he pursued them Dalet ד- with a commandment He ה - which they did not understand Vav ו - They were distinguished Zayin ז - as the bride Chet ח - when they did understand it Tet ט - Through a marriage Yod י - they became a new creation Kof כ - The Son of God Lamed ל - taught Mem מ the promise of the Father Nun נ - The Son of Man Samech ס - fulfilled the promise Ayin ע - He was made to be flesh and bore our sin Pe פ - taught in parables, prophecies and riddles Tsadi צ - and exchanged his righteousness for our sin Qof ק- The Son of God died and rose again Rosh ר - revealing Shin ש - his word returned with an increase Tov ת - His revelation produced new life. It was finished. Final kof ך - The Son of God died Final mem ם - completing the promise of the Father Final nun ן - The Son of Man was restored to Glory Final pe ף - Prophecy was fulfilled Final tsadi ץ - Judgement is ended Final shin - We became co-heirs with Christ Words Hebrew words derive their meaning from the shorter words and letters within, as we saw in adamah for ground. From he ה in the word we understand that things of the ground do not understand spiritual things. The flesh is earthly. Pneumnemonics gives us more than a memory aid, it is foundational to understanding doctrine. The combination of two letters is called a 'gate'. The word 'father' ab אב means -- after God spoke and created the heavens and the earth א he revealed himself to man ב. [v 8] If the letters are reversed forming ba בא, the meaning is reversed. What is the opposite of 'father'? Go back to the meaning by formation: The father revealed himself to man. He took the initiative to be made known. So the opposite is to make an invitation: ba means 'come'. [v 9] In Hebrew, ab ba means 'Father, come'. Not only do the gates provide more pneumnemonics to aid in learning, but also provides an addition to the Systematic Theology. Man cannot find God on his own. We can find the things of God that he has first taken the initiative in, to make himself known. Furthermore, the word ab, also means 'green shoot' and 'fruit on a tree'. The main thing that makes a father a father is that he is the source for new life. The green shoot is not a father, but evidence that the father gave the first life. The fruit on the tree is not a father, but evidence that the father is the source of the second life. Implied in the word ab for father is that there are two lives to be had. [s 8] Have you been born again? [s 9][s 10] Questions Why did Jesus say "Forgive them, they know not what they do."? Lu 23:34 What is the 'sin not unto death'? 1Jo 5:16 How can you discern from the word blood that life is in the cross? References They were unable to remove things from scripture because it is divinely protected. Mt 5:18 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mnemonic https://www.learningassistance.com/2006/january/mnemonics.html Adam אדם is the word for man Intentionally did not use the final form mem ם to help follow the example The ground or earth is a metaphor for the flesh. The instinctive nature of the flesh does not understand spiritual things. When a mem מ is at the end of a word it is drawn differently, as such ם It has many more meanings like homophones The aleph is is expressed in scripture as a metaphor containing all of these ideas: The Spirit between the waters, the firmamnent, war between heaven and earth, separation of Holiness and Love, etc. Scripture De 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish [ought] from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. Ge 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned. 1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Le 17:11 For the life of the flesh [is] in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it [is] the blood [that] maketh an atonement for the soul. Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Vocabulary adamah אדמה - ground, m. flesh adam אדמ - Adam, mankind f. The woman's transgression did not lead to death. Death came by one man (Ro 5:12). Sin is not imputed to those who are without the law (as was Eve, since she was deceived). (Ro 5:13) -
I did a thread on the Gospel of Thomas a while ago here: This thread shows the esoteric meaning of the Hebrew alphabet. It is the foundation for the sensus plenior of the Bible.

Sensus plenior foundations

Introduction When they debated sensus plenior (the meaning God intended which was hidden even from the human authors) in the last century, they didn't invite anyone who could read it. Consequently, all they could agree upon was that they could not read the Old Testament the way the Jesus and the New Testament authors did. [1][q 1][a 1][s 1][s 2] If Jesus learned who he was and what he was to do from the Old Testament scriptures, even suggesting they all spoke of him, then we should be able to find him in them now. Jesus made it clear that all the scriptures spoke of him, even suggesting that the dots and strokes of the letters were important. [s 3] This first work sets the foundation of the metaphoric meaning of Hebrew letters. One will learn to distinguish Hebrew letters from each other based in a mnemonic which is natural to the letters and which constructs a short catechism. While learning Hebrew letters, there is a shift from Greek/Western thinking to Hebrew thought patterns where words have flavor and we can 'taste to see' that God is good. [s 4] For examples of how Hebrew thought patterns affect Biblical interpretation see Appendix A which is a Hebrew look at Acts 12 and Appendix B which is a Hebrew look at Genesis 38. Metaphor is derived from the letters and words themselves in a divine double meaning, wherein they are verifiable and reproducible eliminating free-for-all allegory. The reader who participates in written and video activities will be able to recite the Hebrew alphabet and understand the natural doctrine of Christ contained therein. How to read the book Pr 25:2 ¶ [It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings [is] to search out a matter. It has been said that if the Word of God is represented by water, that this teaching uses a fire hose. It has been called 'dense', 'rich', and 'mind exploding overload'. Rather than having it diluted, approach it somewhat as a meditation. Take it slowly. Consider the scriptures referenced. Draw the letters as described several times repeating the pneumnemonic as you do. If the videos are available watch them. As a king, or one who rules over the flesh, consider it an honor to seek out the mysteries of God hidden from the beginning. [s 5] God's wisdom is hidden in the childish riddles [s 6] and he promises that if we ask him for the wisdom to find him, he will give it. [s 7] You will be blessed as you meditate on Christ hidden in his word. [s 8] The Holy Spirit will help correlate the scripture so that you too can declare "You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!" with Peter, as God reveals pictures of Christ in scripture that no man has taught you. [s 9] Hebrew is written from right to left - Formatting a mix of Hebrew and English is difficult as you fight with the direction of the text. For this reason it will be rare to find a Hebrew word at the beginning of a sentence. Within sentences, Hebrew words will be written right to left. Footnotes There are several types of footnotes. Questions, References, Scripture, Vocabulary and Answers. They are broken into types to facilitate study. Questions are asked to engage you in the theology being discussed. Since the theology is the mnemonic, engaging these as they occur will be most beneficial. References are traditional footnotes minus the others which have been separated out. Scriptures are called out for those who may not be fluent in the Bible and need a quick reference. It might be helpful to read these before reading the Chapter to get a running start. Vocabulary is called out to help you build your own dictionary of metaphor and to assist those who are learning Hebrew. Answers are answers to the questions. They are designed to engage you in the theological conversation. Questions If we cannot read the Old Testament the way Jesus did, what confidence do we have that we can read it at all? References https://www.google.com/search?q=reproduce+exegesis+of+new+testament Scripture Joh 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Mt 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Ps 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD [is] good: blessed [is] the man [that] trusteth in him. Eph 3:9 And to make all [men] see what [is] the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Pr 1:6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings [riddles]. Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Mt 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Mt 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Answers Jesus said that the Spirit would guide us in truth. We find agreement in the person of Christ. All other 'Greek' disputes are up for grabs until we learn to read the scriptures like Jesus did. -
Sensus plenior foundations

Introduction This is the short catechism of the Hebrew alphabet: They heard - אבגדה God spoke and created the heavens and the earth א and revealed to men ב that he pursued them ג with a commandment ד which they did not understand ה. They saw - וזחטי They were distinguished ו as the bride ז when they did understand ח. Through a marriage ט they became a new creation י. The promise - כלמנס The Son of God כ taught ל the promise of the Father מ. The Son of Man נ fulfilled the promise ס. The exchange - עפצ He was made to be flesh and bore our sin ע, taught in parables, prophecies and riddles פ, and exchanged his righteousness for our sin צ. The revelation - קרשת The Son of God died and rose again ק revealing ר that his Word returned with an increase ש and the revelation had produced new life ת. The final state - ךםןףץ The Son of God died ך completing the promise of the Father ם. The Son of Man was restored to Glory ן. Prophecy was fulfilled ף. Judgement is ended ץ. And we became co-heirs with Christ. Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. - Isa 43:10 In casual conversation if I mention that I have been researching Hebrew for more than 20 years, invariably I am asked why I would do such a thing. I explain that Hebrew is unlike any other language. In Hebrew, the meaning of a word is derived from the combined meaning of the letters within. The letters get their meaning from the jots and tittles (dots and strokes) of the letter; and the jots and strokes are derived intuitively as if our DNA was programmed to understand them. As I started to study the Hebrew portion of the Bible seriously, I wanted to learn how to think like a Hebrew. I called a prominent Rabbi hoping that in discussions I would be able to discern how he thought. One day I suggested that since teaching was his profession, I would like to remunerate him. He suggested that I take his remote classes. He asked that I not talk about Christian stuff in class since it would just confuse the other students. I think he forgot I was there. Perhaps he did so intentionally in order to allow me to see him and his students dialog about issues in a purely 'Hebrew' setting. I quickly realized that the Western Greek thought process, using Greek philosophy, logic rhetoric, debate and even myth was very different from the conversations I was hearing. It was here, and from other rabbis I engaged, that I learned of the unique nature of the Hebrew language. However, they did not know how to parse the meaning of words from the letters. They only had a memory that it was done. One friend was researching the use of gates, which are two-letter sub-roots, within Hebrew. Much of his work relies upon free-for-all allegory. Another was researching the pre-Babel language through the assumption that consonants retained their meaning in various languages as the languages were confused at Babel. Another was researching the logic structures of Hebrew thought. I appreciate the insight into the Hebrew mind from these men who I consider great thinkers in their pursuit of truth. Unfortunately, their various pursuits are limited by the restriction of data into their research. None will consider the claims of Christ, and none would confess to having read the New Testament, if, in fact they had. This is an important gap in their thinking. They all agree that the Hebrew scriptures are written in prophetic riddle. Some believe that there are two layers of meaning, and some believe that there are four layers. But they are unwilling to consider that the answers to the riddle may be found in Christ. The verses which Christians consider to be obvious references to Christ, they interpret as to applying to the nation of Israel, or to a mysterious figure named Adam Kadmon who possesses many attributes assigned to Christ. He is both God and man, and has the purpose of revealing God to man. As they applied the scriptures to either Israel or Adam Kadmon, I saw Christ in ways that I had not seen previously, and which they would not consider. I could almost here the twelve year old Jesus in the temple asking: "Doesn't that rock represent Meshiach? Why was he struck? Why did the rock follow them in the desert? Jacob went to sleep on many rocks for a pillow, but when he awoke there was only one rock; what does it mean?" Taking the rabbinic challenge to understand Hebrew words from their letters, I started with 8000 Hebrew words, and like a giant crossword puzzle, reverse engineered the meaning of the letters. Explaining how that was done is tedious and boring. When the words of Genesis 1:1 started making sense read letter by letter, the alphabet came together. Solving the puzzle and relating it in English involves choices of translation options from a metaphor in Hebrew to words in English. "That was his Waterloo." The phrase uses a common metaphor which can be explained in many ways. We might describe a man who was arrogant and ill-prepared because of it. We might described a messed up supply line. Or we might describe a man fortunate to succeed by the failures of his opponent. To help understand this better, you may wish to watch the "Darmok" episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Because the crew of the Enterprise could not understand the alien crew, Picard was forced to battle a common enemy with the captain of their crew. Through the real life drama, they formed shared metaphor by which they could start to understand each other. The metaphor of the Hebrew language is understood when we share the real life events of Christ. Starting four thousand years before the event of the cross, God built the metaphor of the cross into the alphabet, words and literal history of Israel. Because we share the knowledge of Christ, we can now see what the ancient prophets could only hope to see. Lu 10:24 For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen [them]; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard [them]. -
Gospel of Thomas - Class notes on sensus plenior
goatguy-too posted a topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
As a spin off on the other Gospel of Thomas thread, here the GOT will be presented as notes someone took while being taught how to read the sensus plenior of scripture. The term 'sensus plenior' is being used to refer to the hidden meaning of scripture which God intended, but of which the human author was not aware. You will find many opinions about sensus plenior along a spectrum from a denial of it's existence to an admonishment that if it exists, we are not permitted to read it because we are not apostles. With the view that the genre of Biblical revelation is that of sublime childish riddle, the sensus plenior would be expected to teach doctrine in agreement with New Testament doctrine. It is the revelation of Christ which provides the clues to solve the "mystery which has been hidden from the beginning". After I had been studying sensus plenior for many years, I stumbled on the GOT and recognized that it appeared to be teaching the methods I was using. In order to have that background, I will briefly explain the rules used to constrain sensus plenior from being free-for-all allegory and then step through Thomas with interpretations which show that Thomas is consistent with sensus plenior. The discussion may include examples from scriptural sensus plenior using the notes from Thomas as the guide to interpretation. I don't make the the claim that GOT should be scripture. But it would be similar to any modern book about the Bible. I will apologize in advance to those who may expect Gnostic or occultic teaching. I believe that you will find the sensus plenior to be thoroughly orthodox in its doctrine of Christ but troubling to organized religion on all fronts. -
Gospel of Thomas - Class notes on sensus plenior

In this saying, Thomas is explaining the doctrine which summarizes many teachings. We may continue to expound using the metaphor of many other teachings: The name for God, Elohim, means 'God separated from his people because they do not understand'. The remedy is the kingdom of Heaven, which is teaching. The Kingdom of heaven is like leaven... leaven is teaching. Jerusalem means the teaching of peace. The New Jerusalem is equated with the kingdom, and means the New teaching of peace. Jesus taught, "you have heard it said.. but I say...." as he ushered in the New Teaching of Peace. He told his disciple "Go unto all nations teaching..." He called Israel as his people saying "that you may know, and believe and understand, that I am He" His teachers were taught to teach men who could teach others. The marriage feast of the Lamb is a metaphor for the ushering in of the kingdom. The Hebrew words mean: marriage = doctrine, teaching eating = a metaphor for learning lamb = same word as the word which created Light, the creator. The marriage feast of the lamb is the explosion of teaching that happened at the cross when the mystery which was hidden from the beginning was finally revealed and made known. The teaching is simple: God alone is God. Stop being an animal and putting yourself first, but Love by putting others first. I would never presume to interpret from the subjective experience related by one. I think that you may interpret suffer differently than most. I am in almost constant pain.Do I suffer? Yes AND no. Depends what you mean. Have you never wept? Never felt grief? Never hungered? Never been lonely? Never sat through a boring sermon? These are things generally associated with suffering. You say you have come to understand that you don't suffer, which may indicate that was not always the case. What youused to consider suffering, you have come to understand as something else. Suffering is generally a source of temptation as we blame God for the circumstance. But when we realize that it is merely consequences of choices, our or others, then we can agree with James: Jas 1:2 ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; {temptations: or, trials} Then suffering is no more.

Do you know any who don't? Isn't it a matter of degree? All die. I don't know if I am ready to defend the position. It's just an observation at the moment.

Gospel of Thomas - Class notes on sensus plenior

Thomas is now using many metaphors and combining them in one riddle. He has confidence in the rule that all things speak of Christ. One of the most complex riddles I have run across in the Bible is in Rev 17:10,11. Re 17:10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, [and] the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. Re 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. One must identify: 1. There are seven generations in the genealogy of Cain and ten in that of Seth 2. The word 'lived' is not used in that of Cain as it is in that of Seth. 3. Each of the men in both lists are types of Christ 4. Two names appear in both genealogies: Enoch and Lamech 5. Enoch was taken to be with God: He is 6. Lamech means 'power': He is Christ coming in power. He is to come. 7. After removing Enoch and Lamech, there are five generations that did not live: they were. 8. When there are two things, they are one thing. Jubal and Jabal are the 7th generation (names mean water-water)** 9. Tubal-cain is also the eighth but one of the seven. 10. There is only one name in the list that has a meaning of being an animal (Irad - the unbridled donkey) 11. The donkey is always a prophet 12. The bridle means his preaching is controlled. 13. The unbridled donkey is the Son speaking as a prophet. 14. Cain means spear representing he sins of the church With those hints, can you solve the riddle of Rev 17:10,11? If you can discern the beast, you will know more than nearly all the Christians since the time of John; more than all the mystics and desert monks. This might be considered a crazy exercise had Thomas not shown us his joining of many riddles into one. -

They would also be correct and on the same basis of pun. Branch is netzer. Isa 11:1 ¶ And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: In the riddles of sensus plenior there are often many ways to confirm the riddle. There is one story told throughout: that of the cross. The sensus plenior is very repetitive. --added-- Jerome used Is 11:1. He had a memory of punning in sensus plenior. --Added-- Matthew uses the plural 'prophets' when speaking of the prophecy. He uses one instance to fulfill several prophecies. Referring to 'branch' might arguably be considered the methods of Drash or Remez. Pointing to the Nazarite is Sod. -

Thomas taught is to use puns in interpretation. Matthew uses this. Mt 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Mt 1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Mt 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Has anyone noticed that Jesus (Yeshua) is not Emmanuel? Yeshua means God's salvation and Emmanuel means God with us. They don't even mean the same thing!! But Ya-shuach (a pun) means God humbled, speaking of his incarnation when God became a man and dwelt among us. Later Matthew says that Jesus was born in Nazareth to fulfill the prophecy he would be called a Nazarene, but the experts can't find this prophecy. Matthew just taught us to use puns. The law of the Nazarite IS the prophecy, hidden in sensus plenior using pun, that he would be called a Nazarene. The Nazarite takes a vow to not drink wine or strong drink. These represent grace and law. Jesus did not partake of grace or law because he is the author of grace and law. The Nazarite does not cut his hair, and it is called his righteousness. Yet in Paul says that nature tells us that long hair on a man is a shame. Christ, though righteous in God's eyes, bore our shame on the cross. The Nazarite does not touch a dead body, so Jesus was buried in an unused tomb. If a Nazarite touches a dead body, he is set free from his oath without penalty. Jesus's own dead body set him free from his Nazarite vow that he took at the last supper. By using pun, we solve the mystery of the missing prophecy. Thank you Thomas. -

I promised I would show how the GOT was a lesson in reading the Bible. Language is ambiguous. When I go to the store I might pick up tooth paste for whiter teeth and shampoo for greasy hair. I don't know why anyone wants greasy hair Jesus said that thorns represents "cares of the world" which can choke out his word. Mr 4:19 We can see the ambiguity reversed in meaning in the sensus plenior of Ge 22:13. In a shadow of the cross, Abraham is about to offer his only son as a sacrifice. The ram takes Issac's place. The ram is caught in the thicket (thorns). As a shadow of Christ, he cares for the world. His love for the world constrains him to face the cross. Hear the words of God to Cain before he kills Abel: If you do right, won't you be lifted up. This is an encouragement that his right choices will cheer him. But now hear it as Jesus meditates on the Word of God which has sent him to the cross: If you do right, won't you be lifted up? His right choice will kill him on the cross. Thomas is showing us how to read the sensus plenior (the mystery prophecy of Christ) by being open to the double entendre caused by the ambiguity of language. -
The sensus plenior of the Bible actually agrees with you. The Kingdom of heaven is teaching. The New Jerusalem is "the new teaching of Peace" which was ushered in when Jesus said "You have heard.. but I say...". The rapture occurs at the time of death for all men. The end of the world occurred when the kingdom was ushered in. But... but... but... the Christian says.. The Government is not upon his shoulders yet. And at the same time they will say that it is God in Christ who sets up, and tears down nations. According to Paul we are flesh and spirit, and we must learn to put off the old man and put on the new. Consider the old concept of purgatory: You had to die to get there.. We are already dead in trespass and sin. It was the place of torment... everyone complains of suffering in this life. You learned to put off the flesh.. again, this is the teaching of Paul for this life. Your suffering is shortened through prayer and repentance... In this life God gives you the peace that passes all understanding. And when you are set free from Purgatory you go to peace. Sounds like we are IN Purgatory now lol The end of the world happened at the cross. The first destruction of the world was by flood, the second by fire/spirit.

I find that the Church Fathers forgot how to do the same sensus plenior that the NT authors practiced, and fell into free-for-all allegory. That's where my interest wanes. I find that he methods of sensus plenior and Qabalah are similar, but that when implemented in Qabalah are inconsistent. They say the ayin is righteousness, but when added to bar, the word becomes son of evil. I have corrected those inconsistencies in the dictionary for sensus plenior. Thank you for the welcome.

Consider: To get to purgatory you must die. Paul said we were already dead in sin. Ro 8:10 Purgatory is the place where the flesh (old man) is burned up. Paul says this life is the place for that. Col 3:9 When you leave purgatory, you enter his rest. Paul says that this rest is a place still reserved for us. Heb 4:1 Since it is not God's will that any man should perish Mt 18:14 Has he not said it, and shall he not do it Num 23:19. ... And since we are both goat and sheep (flesh and spirit)... It might be that this life is purgatory. The old man is burned up in the fires of tribulation (even Jesus learned obedience in the things he suffered), and we continue in the spirit. The doctrine of Universal reconciliation has been around a long time. It is called a heresy by the church that missed the central teaching of the Bible (Love - yes, even our enemies) and chose to kill those who opposed it. Paul also said that if you don't have love, your doctrine is meaningless. 1Co 13:1 ¶ Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. Some plausible IFs , that suggest that the tribulations of this world help us grow in the desire to put off the flesh, and prepare us for reconciliation.

It is refreshing to read a forum thread on a controversial issue involving people from various parts of the political spectrum and Hitler wasn't mentioned once. Some day we may eliminate forum memes like "Dems want mothers to kill babies" and "Repubs want to kill everyone by killing the planet" too lol It's refreshing to see we have some daobums who want to kill off most of the population so that the population doesn't kill itself. We just love to piss about war and over-population in the same breath. We may not be in agreement, but at least we are at peace. It's good to be back

Genuine or Mind made (Fake): feeling, experience...?
goatguy-too replied to Shad282's topic in General Discussion
Our ontology controls our perception. In other words: What we believe about reality controls our perception/interpretation of reality. When we visually view an object, we do not see the object at all. Our brain interprets electrical signals from the eye which were triggered by light, having traveled through stuff after having bounced off an object after it was generated somewhere else. Anywhere along the line, the light may be manipulated so that the object we perceive need not even be there. With time, imaginary "memories" are indistinguishable from real ones. Exposure to movies and pictures get incorporated into the memory and influence us as though they were real experiences. With esoteric processes, whether totally internal or influenced from external sources suffer the same potential corruptions. If an experience is not verifiable, should it be relied upon a truth? We generally have some sort of threshold for visual images because we have experienced optical illusions. Memories can sometimes be validated against historical facts. I have been training people to be able to discern between real revelation and fake concerning sensus plenior. Peter had a revelation that he was unaware of. He declared that Jesus was the Messiah, Son of God. He knew scripture, and he saw what Jesus did. His experience was that the correlation of the two was a revelation, as declared by Jesus. I have been teaching for several years that one can fill his head with scripture, seek the wisdom of God, and God will correlate the info in such a way that you will see Christ even where the churches have not for 2000 years. As you share the picture, others can verify it using the rules of SP. Some claim that the process is all human, however, that would give its practitioners IQs in impossible ranges. Even an 11 year old can do it now. An example of this is is a previous post concerning Ge 38 which has a prophecy of the birth of Christ which has been hidden from the churches. I can share 100's of them. I am no dummy, but I could not produce the stuff that I observe. Are there such tests for other esoteric practices?- 29 replies

When I started sharing my observation of Biblical sensus plenior I was called a Kabbalist. Not knowing what it was I went into a deep study of it. I have studied with two rabbis, one of who is a top living teacher. I don't mention their names because I am sure I am a poor student, retaining my Christian faith, and don't wish to embarrass them. (or his memory, one being deceased). There are two ways to talk about Kabbalah. There is doctrinal Kabbalah and the hermeneutic of Kabbalah. I was not so much interested in what they believed as to why they believed it. As to what they believed, various teachers teach various things, and so it is less interesting to me. The Sephir Yetzirah is the book of formations. It describes how to form words both with an alphabet and with the voice. The main implication is that the letters of the alphabet each have a metaphoric meaning created by the combinations of yods and vavs as you draw them. The letters combine in two-letter gates which have metaphoric meaning. If you pass through the gate, the meaning reverses in some sense. There is one gate which means the obligation of a slave to a master, and the reverse is the care of a master to a slave to which he obligates himself. One gate is the tree (or the cross) it's reverse is a place of repose like a bed in death. The rabbis could not tell me what the gates meant, so I spent 5 years reverse engineering them from 8000 Hebrew words. And from there down to the letters and the strokes of the letters. I spent the time because different teachers said different things about it, and I needed a way to discern which ones were closer to the truth of the matter. The sephir yetsirah also goes into details of how to add letters to gates to form the roots of words. Where I depart from Kabbalah is here: Kaballah teaches that when God used words to create, that the words themselves had power; that God was just using the words. They teach that we can learn to use the words, and when we get good enough, we can nullify the words of God. He will be proud of us, as when a child surpasses his father on the BB court. Naturally, I believe the power of creation is in God, and the alphabet and words are just part of his revelation to his creation. I am now building up the Hebrew dictionary using the metaphor of letters and gates to validate the underlying assumption that words get their meaning from the combinations the letters. As an example: Adamah, Adam, Dam, Adam came from the ground (Adamah) and he has blood (dam) inside him which gives him life. The letter Aleph is said by John to represent the Spirit in the word for earth (artz) and so Adam is the blood which had the spirit breathed into him. I see the Sefir Yetzirah as a book on Hebrew linguistics. I use the methods (the hemeneutic) and my derived gates and letter-metaphor on the Bible and it produces the "mystery which has been hidden from the beginning" . I am sure the Biblical doctrine is offensive to many here, but the methods may be of interest.

Yeah, it is difficult to sit through Greek rhetorical sermons spouting Greek philosophy using Greek rhetorical invention. If I open my mouth I am generally in trouble. But I don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I can't deny what I see. Remember, we should not expect more from the Gentile church. They sent message to Jerusalem that they wanted to be Christian but not Jewish. So they were given simple instruction. Paul limited his teaching of them to "Christ and him crucified". The Gentile church got Christianity-lite. They threw out the Jews and removed Hebrew stuff from the church by 400 AD. Augustine was so bold as to say that he Septuagint (the Greek translation of the OT) was more reliable than the original Hebrew text. Because of this, they did not see that the amar ( the 'said' in "God said Let there be light") also means lamb. When God created light he did it by the lamb. The Greeks don't realize that light does not come from the sun, but that the lights in the firmament were formed FROM light. They still wonder how there could be days and nights with no sun, but the light of God pulsed like a heartbeat, and the light coagulated into the mass of the suns and stars. The methods of riddle which have been demonstrated in the GOT, when applied to scripture reveal much more about God than the Greek church (and her protestant daughters) can even imagine. Thanks. Yes the Ancient of Days: The word Ancient עתיק means ancient, durable, splendid. When broken down into the metaphor of the letters: Season of time, heap of ruins עת from the first thought of creation י to the new beginning ק through the resurrection. One might say this is an equivalent to the All in All, the beginning and the end. The word for day is yom יום. It's metaphor is something like "a disinct picture of the thought of creation completed in the flesh by the Son." In fact, each day of creation is a distinct picture of Christ. And each day is like a table of contents entry pointing to a portion of scripture, or a period of literal history. It is like the directory to a dispensational view of history, except, the periods are not periods where God dealt differently with man, as in dispensationalism, but that each section is a distinct picture of Christ hidden in riddle. Together the Ancient of Days is the God of all creation in time. He is the constant figure in all of the pictures and riddles from the beginning to the end. He is the sublime; the splendid. Consider the ancient Jewish riddle: Why does the scripture start with the second letter of the alphabet, rather than the first. Implicit in the riddle is the belief that the alphabet itself preexisted creation (since words were used to create) and therefor are part of the divine revelation. The first letter, aleph א has a metaphor: God spoke and created the heavens and the earth. It is a silent letter. In the case of Genesis 1:1 It is there but it is invisible also. The meaning is that when God spoke and created the heavens and the earth, there was no one there to see or hear it. This sounds stretched a bit.. I know. But look at he next part. The first two letters are AB - father. But no man has seen the father from the beginning. Joh 6:46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. The second two letters are BR (bar) - son. We first see the son, and it is the son who makes the father known, because when we see the son we ask, why is there not an aleph. So Anything we see of God is through the son who makes the Father known through the Son's word, works life, and Spirit. Da 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. Da 7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. Da 7:22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints It would appear that the Ancient of Days was not the son since the Son of Man approached the Ancient of Days. But even while the Son of Man was incarnate on earth within time, the Son of God was still in timeless eternity. Don't ask me to explain that one lol. But we see evidence of it when David says : Mr 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. All of the descriptions for the Ancient of Days apply to the Son of God. -

Hi. Thanks again for allowing me to share the Gospel of Thomas thread. I think I am ready to share the hidden Bible. If you Google 'sensus plenior' you will find about five different ways that Christian theologians deal with the topic of God's intended purpose which was hidden even from the human author. Some deny it exists, and at the other end of the spectrum you find some who say that if it exists, we are not allowed to read it because we are not apostles. When a person admits that he doesn't know how to read it, or doesn't even believe it exists, why would anyone believe he is an expert on the subject? The difficult part in sharing what is hidden, is sharing it in such a way that it is understood to be an objective thing, not a system imposed in a subjective way. Many have already dirtied the waters of Biblical esotericism with subjective interpretations, that an appeal to a clean slate must be made for this presentation. Though this presentation is original, it is not new. This should be considered an observation of what has been there from the beginning, rather than imposed upon it at a late date: Another difficulty in sharing the esoteric Bible, is that to appreciate it's unity, one must see the forest and the trees, and even the leaves, and specks of dust. It has a grand unity, like a fractal, from the highest view to the closest. Naturally it will look like an imposed system while it is being explained, particularly if the details of the foreign language are not explained in great detail. I will attempt to keep tedious details limited to times when they are needed. The methods used to discern the esoteric Bible are ancient. They are used by Gnostics, Cabbalists, Rabbis, and even unwittingly by some main line Christians. Because they are not unified in the use of the methods, and because they are predisposed to color their interpretations, the results are conflicting and contradictory. This does not mean that the methods are useless, but that control s must be placed upon their use such that human imposition of meaning is minimized. It is by overlaying the results of the methods with the biases that produced them, that the pure methods can be filtered out. For instance from the same scriptures the Christian says that Jesus is God and man, and his purpose is to reveal God to man. The Rabbi says that God and Israel (man) reveal God to man. The Cabbalist says that Adam-Kadmon is God and man and his purpose is to reveal God to man (but he doesn't recognize Jesus). The Gnostic says that through the Gnosis (revelation of God to man) man merges with God (becomes the God-man). I apologize for the simplistic explanations and recognize that such simplicity mischaracterizes many aspects of each belief system, just by the nature of simplicity. I am sure that is a bad example because of my characterizations and someone will call me on it. However, such simplicity allows us to see that there is a common tool set to arrive at the common elements, and that the difference may be attributed to some degree to the biases of the readers. I cannot deny that I am biased toward the Christian perspective, but because of that, I will attempt to show that the results are based in the consistency and unity of the subject, rather than my bias. What the Rabbi, the Cabbalist, and the Gnostic share with many in this group is a bias against Christ. I understand it. And this is the greatest barrier to sharing the esoteric Bible, particularly here. All of the systems which have biases against Christ have other similarities, but are strongly unified in this one bias. That's fine. I appeal to your generous sense of fair play, that you evaluate the unity which will be displayed against itself, rather than against other systems. To do this, I would ask that the topic of "What is true" not be a part of this conversation, but that the esoteric Bible be appreciated first as itself. When you are able to see the esoteric Bible for yourself, if it calls to you, then it is appropriate to ask if it is true. In the Gospel of Thomas thread, there were small teasers concerning the sensus plenior and some rules for sensus plenior. The rules are worth a look. At the fundamental or atomic level of the esoteric Bible are the strokes which construct the individual letters of the Hebrew alphabet. These strokes are each metaphor which build the metaphor of the letters. Then we have the letters themselves which are pregnant with metaphoric meaning. The next level is called the 'gates' by the Sephir Yetzirah. Two-letter sub roots derive their meaning from the combined metaphor of the letters, and have a meaning reversal when the letters are reversed. The reversal is not an opposite as we think in the west. For instance one gate represents a slave's obligation to a master, and the reversal is the master's one-sided covenant with his slave. In the west we might be tempted to think the opposite or reversal of the slave's obligation to be some sort of disobedience. The roots have multiple meanings which contribute to double entendre and riddle. Sentences are written in two layers, literal and spiritual, and the spiritual has three scopes. These have been known as the Quadriga by Catholics, and Pardes by Jews. I refer to them as the four voices of God (Prophet, Priest, King, Judge) which are really how they self-identify. Patterns emerge which use motif and form the warp of the great tapestry of scripture, and the story of Christ is the woof. Any preference if I start with the letters and work out, or the grand scheme and work in?
