Hi CloudHands, What is that something? For the moment let us call it X. X gives rise to "the question"? Without knowing X, I cannot answer "the question". Please give me an example of X, then perhaps I may be able to answer "the question". I need a context. - LimA

The Relativity of Happiness and the Contingency of Desires
Limahong replied to Will's topic in Daoist Discussion
Hi dawei, When I choose to engage you on happiness, it does not mean that I have disregarded the other posts on this thread. I choose thus as happiness is abstract and complex. Also I like to join the discussion on as clear and simple a premise as I can. We have the four itaclised words chained together momentarily in another thread. Will have thought of the 'relativity of happiness' and you have added 'sense based' and 'moraliity'. At this point, I can comfortably associate the three blue words with happiness. You are referring to Will. To me happiness is posited in the Void of Taoism simply just Happiness. Can I interpret the above thus - "Happiness in its true form in the Taoistic Void is not dualistic. Sense-being and sense-based thinking perceive happiness as dualistic. In its true form, Happiness is not associated with 'self'" Can I equate sense-based and sense-being with 'experiential'? Happiness is Happiness and is Not-Happiness. Happy has nothing to do with not-happy. Yes? So whatever you and I perceive happiness to be, it is still rooted in Happiness. Yes? What is a "major shift"? Non means 'no', so no sides. Yes? That "place" is inclusive? There is nothing to think about the Void. So no dualism there? Happiness outside the Void is not Happiness per se. Very happy. Why? Zhuangzi said - TGIF. A great weekend. - LimA -
Hi Ninendao, Yes - we are now into the eighth lunar month. Today (22 Sep) is its third day. This lunar year we have two sixth month. So the coming Lunar New Year will be delayed to 16 Feb 2018. We had just concluded observing the seventh month ("month of the spirits"). It was 'big' in Singapore thus: Paper effigies of taoist deities at street ceremonies. Offerings in open spaces. Street opera. Taoist rituals during Zhong Yuan Jie Buddhist Venerable chanting during the Hungry Ghost month. - LimA

Hi dawei, I think an appropriate response to such a member is a wu wei welcome . I suggest that TDB has this indicated - "A Wu Wei Welcome". And the rest is clear to unknowing members in terms of rectionary choice. Despite this indication, if anyone wishes to respond - it is all in the realm of 'free man, free world and free choice'. If I had known that Sxxxxx was such, I would have given the post a miss knowingly without judging. Somnus - surely you must have your reason(s) living in a free world. Take care and hope peace will descend upon you shortly if you are searching for it. A good weekend. TGIF. - LimA

Hi ChiForce, I am scratching my head. I am almost a newborn when it comes to the Buddhist Dhamma. Also hard to liberate with complex concepts and thoughts. Any link to the Four Noble Truths? Agree. Remove root cause(s). I like your simplicity and clarity. Abstraction and complexity can seed suffering in understanding? - LimA

Hi thelerner, As per dawei, I had read some of your posts and creditability is registered. Thank you for adding weight to Avoidance. My earlier posts on this thread were nothing more than having fun playing words with other TDB members. The name Sxxxxs was irrelevant. The contents of the introduction to this thread were never on my mind. I am always wary/weary of negative energies. I will never ever "tap on his name, and look at his older posts". Why? I don't want to knowingly touch base with negativities. I would suggest the same to others. Why bother with the "curses and calls for destruction of..lots of groups"? Life is beautiful. It basks in the rays of sunrise and sunset thus: "Curses and calls for destruction" will be awashed by walking in the rain ... Avoidance to "curses and calls for destruction". - LimA

Hi Stosh, There is no implication, Whatever the equation. Healthy curiosity is okay. Whoever called into play. Not only with cats. To catch dirty rats. - LimA

Hi dawei, Now it is time to be serious. I am relatively new at TDB. I have not been exposed to Somnus before. But I have read a few of your posts - credible. You have come across as one I can put my bet on. Henceforth - Avoidance. - LimA
-
Hi dawei, So Somnus is gifted. Now I am very lifted. I don't feel cheated. Is he covertly tilted? Why - I want to be an avoider? As Somnus is such a provider. Of eggs, rice and milk powder. Now - you want to reconsider? - LimA
-
Hi dawei, But Somnus is unavoidable. So how? - LimA

Hi CloudHands, What and why? - LimA

Hi Stosh, It is not a problem for me at all to answer your questions. I am a third generation overseas Chinese in search of his roots. I was a colonised 'British' during my growing up years and I have an occidental mindset. In that sense, I am 'Westernised'. But deep down I know in my blood that I was born an 'Easterner' - like a salmon swimming upstream or a turtle swimming back to its beach of birth. I went back to my ancestral home in China for the first time in 2001 as a macho-man. Very worldly. But when I prayed in the ancestral home, I broke down asunder when a relative gave me a joss-stick and said - "Tell Grandpa and Grandma you have come home". I sobbed irrepressibly. My embrace of Taoism is an attempt on my part to know who I am as intended by nature. I embrace Taoism as a philosophy with myself as a trained researcher. I define philosophy as “a structured set of guidelines or activities to assist in generating valid and reliable research results”. I have a PhD in business administration cum social science and the following are important to me per my communication at TDB: (i) Ontology - What is the nature of the “knowable”? Or, what is the nature of “reality”? - Assumptions that we make about the nature of reality. (ii) Epistemology - What is the nature of the relationship between the knower (the inquirer) and the known (or knowable)? - A general set of assumptions about the best ways of inquiring into the nature of the world. - The study of knowledge and what we accept as valid knowledge. But as a member of TDB, I am just an average guy from the street who likes to approximate life as an apple tree surviving humorously in nature. I do not/cannot resonate with "your goal , your plan , for whatever your exertions". Why? I am in the wu-wei mode at TDB. As for - "know there are several people I wonder this about" - I am aware that I may not be accepted by some per who I am at TDB thus far. How come? I had a few brusque encounters. I like to be advised on what I might have done wrong. When advised thus and, when I believed that there were wrong-doings on my part, I will apologise. - LimA

Hi Stosh, Taste is linked to taste buds. Your buds in blooms yet? Yours seasonal blooming? Only in winter? Pine nuts - are they nipped in your buds? Everything else almost tastes 'pine nuts'? Nutty is empty; Empty is nutty? Nothing in everything; Everything in nothing? Surely there must be something, That's not everything & nothing. Like what? Well almost anything. - LimA
-
Hi sagebrush, You - another stoneyhead? Marblehead - you welcome another head of stone? Stoneyheads - concrete in emptiness? - LimA
-
Hi Dada-da, - LimA

Hi Stosh, I am trying to keep to emptiness. Now you distracting me with chicken soup. Hi Dada-da, Nuttin' about emptiness? Really nothing? But of course. - LimA
-
Good morning Dada-da, Are you nuts? Which type(s)? Or COCONUTS? - LimA
-
Hi Stosh, Have second thoughts. I have digressed. Now back to empiness. Everything that's created comes out of silence. Your thoughts emerge from the nothingness of silence. Your words come out of this void. Your very essence emerged from emptiness. All creativity requires some stillness. - Wayne Dyer - LimA

Hi Stosh, Great to know why. Wonder what Marblehead has got to say. - LimA

Hi Stosh, Hi Dada-da - LimA

Hi Stosh, But of course. - LimA

Hi Stosh, "The Tao is clear, yet this clarity requires you to sweep away all your clutter. At all times watch out for your own stupidity, be careful of how your mind jumps around. When nothing occurs to involve your mind, you return to true awareness. When unified mindfulness is purely real, you comprehend the great restoration. The ridiculous ones are those who try to cultivate quietude - as long as body and mind are unstable, it is madness to go into the mountains.” - Liu Yiming, Awakening to the Tao - LimA

Hi CT, Thank you for your post. I can follow your trend of thoughts. If an ophthalmologist were to ask the above question ... - LimA
