I truly don't understand what you mean. As far as I know most people here are simply fascinated by these arts. The idea of the unknown. The idea of evolution and growing as a human being, understanding the universe. That's it for me at least. What's wrong with that? I bet you that someone who is in it simply for the purpose of immortality, I doubt he will get far. -

It's not about being ungrateful. I don't have much issue with spending money to progress my practice. As much as it takes. I expect the same of MetaDao. It's true that those who search hard enough, can and will find ways. In that sense, the practice has opened up. I think a true seeker of the way has holes in his pockets About the people who are complaining about how expensive it is, or those who need to see burning paper or feel faqi before they can get themselves to practice/search for a practice. For those who might fall in that category, they probably don't have the dedication to go through with the practice anyway! I simply question the need for extreme secrecy in this subject. Why on what is probably the biggest forum on daoism is there almost no discussion/sharing of actual methods? It's taboo. Many of us probably know some very good practices and would be perfectly capable to explain them. We could share and discuss and experiment. That would be real exchange! But instead, most discussions here are about theoretical and philosophical ramblings. Why do we do this? And yes ... I have heard teachers say all these things: But what would you do if you get injured But you cannot mix practices But these methods are to powerful and could be used for bad things ... Bla bla bla. It's like being 10 years old again. So be honest guys , anyone else who feels at least a little bit like this? Note that I have huge respect for the old traditions and teachers. This information is some of the most valuable things you can get hold of. If somebody asks me not to share, I will respect it. But I do think these are important questions that should be asked all the time. Why is it like this? Is it still valid? If one day, I have a teacher to asks these questions, I will ask them. -

Never heard about that mo pai prostate cancer thing. Is that actually true? I wanna believe, but I'll need more info That's said, there are many hobbies, skills, occupations with which you can seriously damage yourself, with or without guidance. People do it anyway, sometimes they perform amazing feats and reach high levels of achievement. Sometimes they die ... People die all the time doing all kinds of stuff. To me it seems as if the real problem in this subject is the secrecy attached to all of it. Notice how despite all the discussion going on here, there is almost no discussion of actual techniques here. Nobody here, shares the actual methods they got from their school/teacher. Nobody, including myself, dares sharing these methods! This secrecy is deeply rooted in the way how these old traditions - some of which probably still exist today - operate. I can understand how in the past, secrecy used to be a necessity. The big question is, is it still a necessity? -

Nope, no way. https://www.reddit.com/r/violinist/comments/nws62k/hi_im_a_selftaught_violinist_i_started_with_the/ https://www.reddit.com/r/violinist/comments/yqhp3n/hello_i_am_self_taught_violinst_2_yrs_playing_i/ So these guys seem to have gotten somewhere with only 2-3 years of self study (assuming they did actually study by themselves). That's still beginner level of course but perhaps in 5-10 years time we can find a few self taught violin players with reasonably high level on the internet. Also interesting if you explore that forum, is how almost everybody there seems to be saying how it cannot be done. It's always like this, everybody saying it cannot be done ... Until you have one guy who is crazy and obsessed enough to get really really far. And suddenly you have all sorts of people reaching that level. -
Interestingly, these 3 neidan "stages", jing->qi qi->shen shen->emptiness are also sometimes called 3 "barriers". But when referring to the 3 "barriers" it can also refer to the 3 points/regions in the back which are difficult for the qi to overcome in the small circulation. For me personally I can say that it does indeed seem as if there is some region around the sacrum which is especially difficult to loosen. source: https://www.goldenelixir.com/terms/sanguan.html

Holup holup! Dont understand sentence, but, weiqi != post heaven qi right? What is the distinction about pre and post heaven qi anyway? Does small circulation work on preheaven qi?

Experiences with sexual qigong and daoist lovemaking
mcoolio replied to Nuralshamal's topic in General Discussion
But isn't it a little bit simplistic to reduce sexuality to 'a loss of jing which could have been used to cultivate spirit'? How does the full qi mechanism in sexuality work? Simply from a qigong point of view, without all this talk of desire and pleasure? Somebody who is interested in qigong, perhaps there is something interesting to understand and experience in the sex? Exchange of energy between two people? Seems interesting. Could it be used to build qi? Is there any other gain? As far as I know, daoists are pragmatic lot that seem to find uses for all sorts of stuff ... So the male loses jing, and spirit cultivation becomes harder, but what does the female gain? Movements with focus turned to internal state. Sounds like good ole neigong?

Nice post, thanks for sharing. So what kind of practices are we talking about then, if it's not (necessarily) seated work? More about the things you do in daily life?
-
Well yea, of course it's difficult to describe, just like dao and all of that stuff. With the neidan, we will just get closer to perfection. Do we need to know much more than that? A little perhaps, but perhaps not to much also. Then we just have to do the exercise. Well yea, probably not, the book will just give you overview. But can still be very nice when deciding to go for the system or not. Then you will have to buy the 5 courses with all the exercises and details. What sources and teachers do you use to learn all this stuff then?
-
Well it seems reasonably clear to me. Seems like he is simply selling a large chunk of the neidan course of the wang liping dragon gate academy. Result is probably whatever neidan courses are supposed to do. No? If I want more info, I can get an overview of the system in his book, which is probably a good idea for someone deciding to go for that course.

Sure, a live teacher poking at you and adjusting posture may be useful. But in the end, seems to me like it is really something that must be found, for the most part on your own. A good static posture practice will have a fairly extensive list of alignment points that can guide you. I suspect that later in the practice, in the more spiritual aspect, will probably have to search for things that are even more difficult to find than good alignment. Things where teacher can provide even less help. Finding correct alignment is probably a piece of cake in comparison, if you already failed in doing that on your own for the most part, ... For point 2, videos are generic, but most questions are generic too. You can't ask a video what do do when stuff goes wrong, but today, we can simply send the teacher an email. Or a school can setup a forum where most questions can be answered. Or even non school forums, you can get great answers for a lot of questions. So yeah, I'm really starting to wonder: what do I really need teacher for? Just give me the high quality exercises as a video and I'll figure out the stuff eventually. No?
-
Gotta go slow. Can take years to get things right. Weeks or even months of doing certain exercises. Then weeks and months doing other exercises. Then going back, to the first, and noticing it's not the same. Repeat and repeat. But seems true of course, if you can get a live teacher, seems like is always better. But needs to be a decent enough teacher of course. If teacher is no good, perhaps the online is better? To me it seems like training, it's no longer the same as in the past. The rules have changed. They didn't have video. We have, and you can watch and rewatch infinite times. For a lot of stuff, exercises are simple and videos are good to explain the stuff, you just have to do and redo it a lot. But I guess teachers are still important of course...

I tend to agree. My assumption is if you sign up to his platform, this should be heavily discounted. For example, I know Damo has a YJJ course coming up this month, thats 100 euros for 10 hours. Thats about the price of any martial arts class you'd take, and far more reasonable $1100 dollars for his most expensive teaching. Not cheap, but also not outrageously expensive. Depending on the material, that could be a fair price. No?

It’s such a minefield, isn’t it! But was it ever different? This is just the game and we wanna be players, so we deal with it , or not ... Luckily us seekers have each other to get support from ...

Why is my body/mind able to do Tai Chi but not Qigong?
mcoolio replied to searcher7977's topic in Daoist Discussion
Breathing synchronized with heart beat rhythm is by itself already a pretty powerful exercise. Not surprised you could damage something in doing it (plus the nostril alternation). Especially if body is not sufficiently trained. But can also be very useful exercise if used correctly. -

Experiments in Weather Magic
mcoolio replied to Zhongyongdaoist's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
Universe is complex and lot's of things are intertwined. Groups (not individuals) of like minded people with a strong tendency towards certain toughs/emotions/actions, how does this affect their local surroundings? Is there that much difference from magical intent action such as the weather magics? I Dunno ... Plus, from the beginning, I realized that, coming to this forum, better not go into it expecting too much . So I don't care that much if people don't back up their claims (but is always nice of course). Hopefully, eventually, I'll see in my own training what's true or false.- 102 replies

Experiments in Weather Magic
mcoolio replied to Zhongyongdaoist's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
he is one of those new guys ... the 'new consciousness' man ! I'll have to explain it to you becasue you are SOOOO old school ... get with it dude ! It works like this : you write on a subject you have studied and have experience in .... lets say eg. Yoga . I read it , rush off to do a google search, find whatever ( it doesnt matter what ) 'stuff' on the internet and then plaster your thread with it . if you respond , I will talk illogical unconnected nonsense back at you GOSH ! Its getting so bad here that one might be driven off to another forum that doesnt allow crap like that Sure, he is a pretty weird guy. But we are all a bunch of weirdo's, and you are certainly top 5 of all the weirdo's here! It is not that because the new agers took all these ideas, that they should be dismissed. They adopted them for a reason. I think that the idea about human consciousness and weather impact was very interesting for this thread. So perhaps not only human action but also human consciousness has an impact on this planet and the climate change? It is probably not a wrong statement when I say that our planet is self aware and aware of us. It knows what we do AND what we think. And of course, when she speaks, we have no choice but to listen... So yea, I think we can say we humans have a very deep connection with this planet and we easily forget this. The shamans in ancient times knew all of this of course. Wasn't it the case that in the ritual offerings to the weather gods, the whole community was present? So yes, human consciousness is probably an important thing to consider when we try to tackle the climate problem (and perhaps even we we experiment with weather) and I thank @Lairg for his contribution.- 102 replies
