I find THIS to be a very illuminating intro to Tonglen. Personally I like to develop mettá a bit before practicing tonglen. And what I consider to be an important part of the instructions is not only that you breathe in the problems, sufferings and disease of sentient beings but also that it helps destroy your selfishness (or however to call it, can't remember the precise wording).

Hi, does anybody here have an experience with sleep paralysis? How did it go? What happened? How did you make it go away? Do oyu think it is paranormal or just your mind playing tricks? My experience with this quite interesting phenomenon is that there is a shadow figure and it tries to get to me, however I usually manage to scare it away by using mantras like mani mantra for example. However, tonight I had another experience and it sat on my bed and I repeated mani mantra in my head, but it continued and it laid down on me, it was a light shadow, so I used vajra guru mantra and it disappeared. I find this quite interesting because I didnt fear it at all, unlike previous experiences where fear was more dominant. It also seems I have caused the experience by thinking about this topic for the last few days (not intense thinking, just sometimes I lightly pondered it). I do quite believe it is a mind playing tricks on me and mantras just make it more calm and end faster, without much fear.

Hi, what do you guys think about George Thompson? He is a youtuber who got into taichi and daoism and actually studies under a daoist/taiji master from Wu dang mountains. He seems quite nice and it is interesting to see him propagate self growth and daoist thought albeit probably rather shallowly. Here is his documentary about his second journey to see his master. Really nice to watch and well made.

Hi, if a person wants to open the world of Confucian thought what would you suggest to read/watch? Is there some confucian teacher that shares some legit thoughts online in english? I have a translation of Analecta at hom and plan to give it a nice read, but it is not the easiest reading.

Dabur as it is virtually the only one being sold here. And it tastes good in black tea too a bit like yogi tea.

I just got my small package of Chyawanprash (250g) and quite frankly I love the taste. It reminds me of Czech povidla with its texture, smell and taste although chyawanprash is more bitter than sweet. I will try taking it regularly and lets see if I will get those amazing benefits of replenished ojas and better complexion etc. or if I will just enjoy a daily spoonful of an expensive jam.

Internal Arts and Mental Processing / Intelligence

Sorry man, but I kinda don't really think you get to be a billionaire who wastes money on useless space flights and also claim to be generous. Those tests could have improved lives of many people.- 28 replies

Confucianism for beginners (and dummies too)
Miroku replied to Miroku's topic in Confucian Philosophy
Just a fun synchronicity of sorts... until yesterday I have never heard of Mencius and today I found this on my Fb feed. Heart for me all the way. -
I mean he is doing really well and I absolutely love his journey. From an anxious college graduate he became someone quite good at taichi, great at editing videos and actually part of a proper lineage, that is something. The shallowness or better the perception of it comes probably from my zero knowledge of daoism, however sometimes things he says sound to me a bit too new-age. But that might be just my problem.

Yes definitely no extra limitation I myself took teachings from all major schools. Just now I'd like to take a deeper dive into gelug really. Unfortunately Lama Zopa no longer teaches live at least for the time being...
-
Hi, lately I have felt the desire to look a bit more into the Gelug Teachings and maybe receive some transmissions. Are there any Gelug Bums that have experience with Gelugpa geshes teaching online? I will be glad for any suggestion, that is outside of the realm of a certain gyalpo spirit. Please don't recommend that (at least to me) as I don't want none of that shugden in my life.

Wow thanks! This is super interesting please keep them coming! -
Really? Could be interesting to look into. And off topic is okay. I guess there is nobody who is a gelugpa in here.
-
Yeah there is unfortunately plenty of those. Was his name Tsem Rinpoche? Yeah those groups are quite better in promotion, etc. The sad thing is they went and made lots of sites like lama-tsongkhapa.com and others. So when it comes to gelug these shugden groups are the most visible ones. Might be also because it is quite hard a gelug group in the west outside of fpmt.

OMG, I just found something my deceased husband wrote
Miroku replied to manitou's topic in General Discussion
Beautiful! The last paragraph is actually as if it was spoken by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, was your husband by any chance a student of his? -
Oh... sounds about right.
-
Yes! What happened with that guy?
-

I absolutely adore 'You Want It Darker" it is the most perfect album. I have been listening to it for several years now and it always begs a full listen, not just one song, but full and in the order it was made. The atmosphere it creates is just amazing. While Cohen was jewish until his last breath I cannot help but think the songs "Treaty" and "It seemed a better way" can be read as songs about his zen master who spent last years in infamy as his sexual escapades went public and Leonard Cohen was with him in his last days, taking care of him. But of course that is just one way to view it and that is the genius of the author. "Treaty" can also be read as a classical jewish way of relating to G*d, however there literally is a treaty as they have a coven. Anyway, sorry for my rambling I am just so excited about Cohen. There is a great article written by his rabbi who explains a bit the theological background behind this album.

Yeah that is the main reason why I have not yet paid the 15 dollars it costs in here. But honestly looking at the herbs etc, it could actually be quite high in antioxidants and that itself can be quite benefitial. Nothing a handful of blueberries wouldn't do probably... but still. I am thinking about buying it because of the antioxidants and high vitaminc C content that would go great with my daily porridge.
-
I have been quite curious about chyawanprash, have you noticed some benefitial effects? I only know about it that one of my friends who studied tibetan medicine and a bit of ayurveda is promoting it quite happily as a way to restore ojas if I remember correctly.

Be nice to me one more time and I'll gladly be just your bumm

I missed the handsome guy named @Miroku , but apparently I am the only one.

Yeah, I usually do them too. I find them easy and perfect for digestive system and for making lower back stronger. Plus great with limited space. @C T Thank you for the advice. Very useful especially since sometimes the purpouse can get lost in the goals.
