Immortals vs. Bodhisattvas (or arahats)?
voidisyinyang replied to Kali Yuga's topic in General Discussion
Finally the content of the book deals with lots of intense information which can not really be understood unless practiced and experienced. The book on its own is dangerous -- I got to chapter 9 to chapter 11 in practice and at that level the energy was very dangerous. Actually if you look at my posts you'll see I recommend Mantak Chia's first book as a beginner's guide to the "small universe" or "microcosmic orbit" practice and then I recommend Chunyi Lin's "small universe" c.d. to actually do the practice. Then for the advanced level I recommend the book "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" -- this thread is focused on the advanced level which is why I didn't see it necessary to mention the beginning level book. Still reading a book is different than actually practicing the exercises. So the question is can a person really understand the concepts of a book if they're not practiced? Personally I don't think so. When I was reading "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" I was also taking the classes from Chunyi Lin. I read a lot of other meditation books at that time as well. I reference them all here: http://www.nonduality.com/whatis8.htm Some of these I read after I did my intensive training but most of them I read before and during my training. Chunyi Lin quoted from the book "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" twice -- both times when I had brought the book to the classes of his -- but I had never displayed the book -- it had remained in my backpack. Still Chunyi Lin made references that were specific to the book -- once using the term jing which I had never heard him use again -- another time referring to how he had a very advanced meditation just recently that was like "falling snow in the sky" -- which is the exact same term used at the end of "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" -- right before the meditator creates a physical yang spirit body. While it could be considered a coincidence that Chunyi Lin used specific terms and quotes from "Taoist Yoga" at the same time and the only time I had brought the book to his class -- other times in his class and retreats Chunyi Lin made references to information about me which otherwise would have to be considered private. He can see inside bodies and he can read past lives -- he says that -- he has telepathy, etc. I asked Chunyi Lin if he had created a yang shen physical body and he answered that he had -- as confirmed by others. So this shouldn't be too surprising as Chunyi Lin focuses on the "small universe" practice and Chunyi Lin has stated that the "small universe practice on its own can take you to the most advanced levels" which again is also exactly what the book "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" details. So if people want to know the details of how to train to be a Taoist Immortal then certainly the book "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" will give them the details. Chunyi Lin emphasizes himself that people can take his classes for the information but that's not the same as training to be at the level of the classes. -
There's various levels of enlightenment experiences -- so sounds like you had one minor type of enlightenment. Psychoactive drugs along with meditation can have minor enlightenment experiences -- of course most people claiming to be religious will go against psychoactive drugs, especially because of Western puritan traditions. Here watch this video to get a quick dose of a Taoist energy master so you can compare it with your pot smoking meditation:

Oh I was referring to the series "All and Everything" Meetings with Remarkable Men (All and Everything) is the 2nd book in that series. There's a third book which is not part of that series which I confused with the last book of the series. Yeah I haven't read the last book in the All and Everything series -- again for the reasons I stated above. Gurdjieff himself disowned the book as it was published. Sure Gurdjieff had his own version that he would have recited for his students but again, that's not the same as having some idiot editor insisting on changing the writing of something the editor doesn't understand! Typical editors. I'm against editors as a job. Yeah "All and Everything" is not the book title -- it's the series title. This is the book I was referring to instead of "All and Everything" the book series: http://www.amazon.com/Life-Real-Only-Then-Compass/dp/0140195858/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_2

Yeah -- definitely -- also "Meetings with Remarkable Men" is excellent.

Immortals vs. Bodhisattvas (or arahats)?
voidisyinyang replied to Kali Yuga's topic in General Discussion
Read the book "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" translated by Charles Luk --- you can read it free online but I can't give the link as the moderators have banned links to free online reading.... O.K. so that book gives a very detailed step by step process for the most advanced levels of Taoist Immortality. Sure the Buddhists will claim -- no that book is not the real deal -- but in fact that book is the real deal -- only it has to be practiced in the proper context. The book on its own is dangerous -- I got to chapter 9 to chapter 11 in practice and at that level the energy was very dangerous. So the book is based on a lineage where an energy master supervises the training. Also the book uses a lot of esoteric terms and to figure out the meaning you have to cross reference the terms with lots of studying. Finally the content of the book deals with lots of intense information which can not really be understood unless practiced and experienced. So I experienced a lot of stuff but since I hadn't really studied the book thoroughly when the experiences happened to me I didn't understand them when they were happening. Only years later by continuing to study the book did I figure out what I had experienced and what difficulties I had encountered and why, etc. Have fun -- "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality" translated by Charles Luk -- you can read it online for free or you can order it from the publisher. -
Oh I agree "novelty" is a novel idea indeed! haha. As for Ouspensky -- I made sure to tear out his lengthy distractions from my copy of "In Search of the Miraculous" -- otherwise the book is quotes of Gurdieff. Why ruin a Gurdieff book with the writing of Ouspensky? Ouspensky was misled as Gurdjieff readily admitted. It's true Ouspensky did finish "In Search of Miraculous" for publication much later but also Gurdjieff stated that "In Search of the Miraculous" was the best clear presentation of Gurdjieff's alchemy. The problem with Westerners on Gurdjieff is they easily get sidetracked into focusing on the followers of Gurdjieff -- for example Ouspensky. I point out this problem in my article as well. I could care less about Ouspensky or Bennett or any of the other followers of Gurdjieff -- except in their ability to relate and pass on information about Gurdjieff. So Gurdjieff's magnum opus, as Bennett details, was so badly edited by the Western idiots that Gurdjieff got suicidal. Gurdjieff wrote a book, no one could understand it, so they all wanted to change it, and so Gurdjieff basically disowned it. Yet the Westerners form these "literary" study groups analyzing this huge book that was censored and wrongly edited, etc. -- looking for some secret meaning, just as if it's a Bible Study group. haha. Then if you criticize this huge book mangled by Western editors the Western followers of Gurdjieff get all into a hissy-fit. Sure some Gurdjieff groups practice the sacred dances which are a form of tai-chi combined with the Whirling Dervish trance dances. Gurdjieff himself focused on teaching mind yoga -- "self-remembering" -- along with physical training through the dances and lots of exercise with pure food, etc. But Gurdjieff never trained someone to be his replacement -- relying on his energy transmissions. In fact Gurdjieff said he was more like a Number 4 person than a Number 5 (based on his own system, again modeled from Mahayana Buddhism's eight levels of consciousness) -- Gurdjieff admitted that the real teachers were in the monasteries and meditation centers he trained in. Unfortunately in terms of the music harmonics focus of Gurdjieff the West does misunderstand Gurdjieff simply because Gurdjieff was trying to integrate with the West -- so he used the ratios 5:4 and 9:8. The Westerners wrongly interpreted this music harmonic focus of Gurdjieff as an early Christian harmonics which relied on a "divide and average" philosophy when in fact Gurdjieff's alchemy was based on the "complementary opposites" just as Taoist alchemy. So it isn't anything new but it can still easily be misunderstood.

Hymen Reconstruction Surgery on rise in China

http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/extract/316/7129/459 So hymen reconstruction is considered related to female genital circumcision -- http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/546497 Apparently "vaginal relaxation" is touted as a medical problem also solved, in part, with hymen reconstruction: http://www.jendajournal.com/vol1.1/dvagina.html -
Yeah it's like when the Chinese invaded Tibet -- traditionally they ate barley because it was suited for the climate but the Chinese didn't know that, so destroyed the barley, replacing it with crappy food. haha. The British did the same to the Bengalis replacing jute production.

Ah thanks for the expose on Heartmath -- I used to be on their mailing list -- but never bought anything. Always thought it was a bit superficial.

Wow so he discovers the real secret behind Shangria-La! Amazing!! http://www.pbs.org/mythsandheroes/wood.html His next film series is on the history of India. -

Fakir, monk and yogi are the other three ways. The 4th way combines all three and then attempts to transcend them -- my argument is that Gurdjieff's alchemical harmonics is directly based on Taoist yoga alchemy derived via Mahayana Buddhism.

Activism does work -- I organized a coalition at the University of Minnesota to get that school to join the Workers Rights Consortium back in 2000. Actually my dad is big on the neocon scene -- he went to NYU law school and was invited to join one of those Ayn Rand neocon think tanks back in the late 1950s -- and then he's buddies with a law professor who studied with neocon guru at the University of Chicago -- Leo Strauss. Anyway I'm a radical progressive -- having been arrested 7 times for civil disobedience, and working 20 years at activist nonprofits, etc. So my dad is buddies with a federal judge who just retired a few years ago due to health reasons -- so I went to dinner with this judge the night before he was to sit in a closed door administrative hearing to rule on a case -- this is a regional federal district case. The judge, of course, had his mind made up already and my employer had an amicus curae to the case -- so there was probably some law against these connections meeting beforehand... still my dad wanted me to tell the judge about when I protested against Al Gore (as I'm radical progressive and their neocons).... Well so the ruling of the case was against family farm protection laws which state you have to live on your farm to own it -- to keep corporations from having verticalization and market monopolies of farming -- distribution, etc. The main issue being Cargill taking over farms -- and Monsanto, etc. Anyway of course the judge ruled in favor of Cargill and in a single ruling overturned several states having laws to protect family farms. He made his ruling based on the U.S. constitution -- namely the Commerce Clause. The Commerce Clause is the great ruling elite sneak attack in the U.S. Constitution. My dad is part of the Federalist law society which is another neocon stronghold for lawyers -- anyway if you go back to the Federalists they were big on having a central bank with a strong federal military, the basic neocon supply side economics agenda. It's definitely a religion -- David Loy is great on this -- as is Professor David F. Noble who wrote an awesome expose on Western science as religion as well -- "The Religion of Technology" -- and his latest book I haven't read yet but have heard him talk about -- it's about how economics is based on religion. The "hidden hand" of the market being the force of God, etc. -
