  1. Probability of Change

So true! In the "real world" we see this everywhere. For example: In the atmosphere, areas of high pressure always flow into areas of low pressure with the 'intention' of achieving equilibrium. At first pass, one would think this would mean the entire atmosphere would eventually achieve the same, monotonous pressure. But that does not happen! Areas of low pressure inevitably grow into areas of high pressure through external forces acting upon them. One can imagine the same with Yang and Yin. Yang naturally 'wants' to change to Yin, and external forces inevitably 'push' Yin into forming Yang. It's an imperfect description but I think it conveys the message well enough.
  2. The paradox of multicultural view

Silicon Sister and Manager Mister told you you got what it takes?
  3. The paradox of multicultural view

Wait a minute! You are being a little dramatic there, aren't you? A little, yes.
  4. Time Machine Dinner

@Wells You need to read The Man who Folded Himself, by David Gerrold.
  5. The paradox of multicultural view

There are no simple answers. An ignorant man glorifies his own culture over another simply because it is his own. A fool glorifies another culture over his own simply because it is another. A smart man learns his own culture. A wise man learns others' cultures. A strong man acknowledges the good and bad of each. A courageous man upholds the good and fights the bad regardless of where he finds it. Sadly we live in a world of ignorant fools who are neither smart nor wise and lack both strength and courage.
  6. Time Machine Dinner

I would invite Robert Heinlein, Edgar Rice Burroughs, and Frank Herbert. I'm sure we would have a fantastic conversation.
  7. Can You Lose Your Judgement?

Can you lose your judgement? Is that other really worthy of praise? Is that other truly pitiful? Your judgements of other are a reflection of yourself. What do you see when you look on the mirror?
  8. Can You Lose Your Judgement?

As regards this thread I was thinking about a specific event last night. I went to a concert. People were there, listening to music, enjoying themselves. I happened to see a person who looked like maybe they were drunk, or high - and not just last night but chronically, most of their life. This person had droopy eyes, a stupid smile, clothes that didn't fit - like they had just come in from spending all day in the sun and the fabric was stretched from constant pulling. I felt derision, disdain. I genuinely disliked that person and was offended by their presence. How dare this... person... share the same space as me?!! They it struck me, the sense of judgement. I did not know this person. This person had no impact on my life. I had no reason to care - for good or bad - about this individual. So I told myself to let it go. But it's not easy to let it go, since this happens all the time and most of the time it is not obvious as it was last night.
  9. unbelievable , Hitler was a vegetarian

It seemed he also liked yoga. http://yogadork.com/2012/02/21/apparently-the-third-reich-had-a-fascination-with-yoga-in-nazi-germany/ Morality, like intelligence, runs on its own axis (pun intended). Just because someone does X, Y or Z does not automatically make them moral or immoral.
  10. unbelievable , Hitler was a vegetarian

He also liked animals. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_welfare_in_Nazi_Germany Evil comes in all shapes and sizes.
  11. Probability of Change

That comment bothered me too. I geeked out and created a spreadsheet that starts with 1 million yang lines and calculates the changes over 50 iterations using the yarrow stalk method and the coin method. After about 30 iterations the yarrow method settled on a steady 75% yin lines and 25% yang lines ratio. The coin method settled on a steady 50%/50% split. (I can send you the spreadsheet if you like. PM me.) From this it looks like the percentage of change simply determines the ratio of yang vs yin in a moving system over time and does not determine the aggregate total. In other words the universe will not decompose into pure yin. That said, the yarrow stalk method does suggest that the universe is composed predominantly of yin, whereas the coin method suggests yang and yin are perfectly balanced.
  12. Why does one lose their awareness?

"The grass is always greener on the other side." Simply, to the point, and utterly ignored. We keep looking. We exhaust ourselves looking for the answer, the one true way. Yet we never find it. Maybe we do find it. We think we found it. Then someone comes along and pokes holes in our pillow, eats our sacred cows, pushes us to the ground and laughs at us as they walk away. So we do what anyone would do - we join them... until someone else comes along and destroys our new pillow, eats our new cows, and leaves us once again in the dust. In the end, exhausted and hungry, we give up. We stop looking. We say it's not possible. There's nothing to know anyway, and no way to know it if there were something. And that's when our mind stops. It stops for just a split second. It's ever so small, but we see it. We feel it. We know it. And then what do we do? We talk about it, and some poor fool comes along and yells at us for poking holes in his pillow, eating his sacred cow, and pushing him to the ground. So we walk away, terrified by the pain we have caused, and are accused of laughing at a man while he's down.
  13. Branch and Leaf Icons

Wow. Who would guess TDB is so... technical! I need to spend more time observing icons and things. Hey, wait - that's a good lesson for life, be more observant!
  14. Branch and Leaf Icons

    I have screen-shots! Please don't ask me why I have screen-shots...
  15. Why does one lose their awareness?

I don't know. I asked the I Ching this same question and was told 64 changing to 47. Let's see what that means... It appears that you have almost arrived at your destination. You've traveled far and are just about done - but beware, you're not done yet so you must remain vigilant! Like a fox crossing a frozen river, if you aren't careful you may break through the ice and risk the dangerously cold water. That's the good news. Your destination however, isn't what you expected it would be. That's the bad news, but don't be discouraged! Hold true to what you know is right, and good, and correct. No matter how this may look it is correct. Well, there you go.

  17. I ching & quantum physics

    Hence Ch'ien and K'un. Got it! 999999 = ䷀ (Ch'ien) 666666 = ䷁ (K'un)
  18. I ching & quantum physics

I hope I didn't just set myself up for a bad joke...
  19. I ching & quantum physics

Where are you getting 999999 and 666666 from?
  20. I ching & quantum physics

When a rock sits on the top of a hill is has POTENTIAL. When it starts rolling down the hill it has ENERGY. When it comes to rest at the bottom on the ravine it has POTENTIAL once again.
  21. Why should I study the I Ching

Bump! This thread has some very good information, especially the quote above.
  22. Probability of Change

I figured I'd bump this thread. The difference in changing line probability among casting methods is, shall I say, interesting.

  24. Everyone post some favorite quotes!

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." -Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear. Dune, by Frank Herbert
