Welcome, seeker! Is your name derived from the star Aldebaran? I recognized that name because it's what i called a magical sword i once found while trying to play Dungeons&Dragons. Even if it's a coincidence, that's even cooler.
  2. What is spirituality

Are they spiritual, who having known pain, loss, betrayal, unfair evisceration of beauty, when face down in a puddle of tears, suddenly catch sight of the sun's rays shimmering upon the wavering surface, and still manage to crack a smile?
  3. What is spirituality

"Chop wood," and "carry water." These are euphemisms, that means to cut down on masturbation, and to circulate energy? I think joking is prevalent in spiritual pursuits because it opens us up to embracing absurdity without threatening our perception of reality. The thing is, sometimes a seriously real experience will stand in clear defiance of conventional explanation. Stay curious and maintain faith that everything really is going to be okay. A signpost could be whenever something previously thought of as far fetched becomes commonplace. A goal is to gain freedom to do whatever comes to mind, so long as it does no harm.

  8. True Yin and True Yang

You ever see that kid, playing in the sandbox as it were, got some shiny new toys, and what's he do? Pick 'em up and bash 'em into each other! He won't tell you why he did that, just keeps laughing like a maniac. (Really i am just all about offering perspectives, and secretly have the utmost respect, adoration, and yes, caution.)

  10. Why do so few qigong masters radiate vitality?

"Nobody is packaging and selling this right now." Yes of course they are!! It is by prescription only though. Each application is tailored specific to the individual and administered by a trained professional. You not supposed to eat someone else's prescription right? It mess you up. It's not secret just so that it complies with an ancient tradition, or even worse because it's not real to begin with. It is perceived as secret in the same way as in that Seinfeld episode where Elaine kept trying to look at her charts that the doctor kept hidden on his clipboard. Most people if they knew what was on there would actually understand very little of it and likely get mislead and hurt themselves even worse..
  11. True Yin and True Yang

All this Yang within Yin mystery and intrigue! Aren't these old ass poems, about seeking out the hidden True Yang, mostly talking about the same thing? Namely kidney fire a.k.a the adrenals? Since the kidney so yin, and the adrenal sits on top of it, then you take some metaphor from nature world like "In order to find the True fire, you must go to the bottom of the sea." Today we know about pelagic magma vents or whatever but i guess that's a less romantic way to phrase it. Anyway, usually what we think of adrenaline and cortisol, we know they are steroid hormones; they're designed for causing some explosive yang shit right? But the secret move is you burn it real slow, and you can do all kinds of useful tasks in there. So how to install a carburetor between your kidneys? Sit up straight and take long deep breaths is a good start. Then how you get the gland to secrete the fuel? INTENTION. Hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis is a real thing, and it's designed for more than just getting angry at people.
  12. Why do so few qigong masters radiate vitality?

Do you have experience of these people ? Are they any good ? Hi Ridefor. I've only taken their correspondence courses, but was not disappointed. They both have genuinely walked the walk of warrior becomes healer becomes priest. Woody "Wu Dhi" Schwartz is contagiously exuberant. I would say that he radiates vitality, and then some. He still runs a clinic in south FL where he'll treat everything from indigestion to exorcism. Even used to teach Flying Crane Qigong for free on the beach to anyone that showed up. His unique brand of Recharging Qigong is a special designed blend of lots of different traditions, including yoga and good old calisthenics, so i guess he's got an advantage as far as this thread discussion, LOL. Anyway, he's put a lot of video on youtube worth checking out https://www.youtube.com/user/drwudhi/videos The Damo-Qigong is more esoteric, but absolutely potent. Their exercises are different than most things you see these days because it's all done sitting half lotus and each main posture is held still for a really long time. I remember being drawn to it because the website (which btw 8 years ago looked a lot different) was so inconspicuous yet contained some seriously deep articles. The attitude was not targeting at all to people who just wanted to "do" qigong, but to those that had some serious condition that they wanted to use the "internal medicine" for. Most the articles are still in there if you get through the annoying stock menu. The study materials are made by Hu Xuezhi at Mt. Wudang. Getting back to vitality, i'd say he looks pretty healthy, too. https://youtu.be/Zim9daMzwpQ
  13. True Yin and True Yang

Bindi you beautiful bum! What the heck have you done? I'm just making some of this up as i go, but here are the things that danced to mind. Hold True Lead (True Yang within Yin) firmly. The initial singularity, the very first Thing, appeared as they say, of and within No-thing. The supreme denseness of Lead only barely illustrates what really is infinitely dense, this thing. Every conceivable particle, superimposed and inseparably entangled, prior to expansion, and differentiation. and seek with intention; Somehow could I will consciousness to harmonize with the very vibration of the wave-particles which carry it along, themselves being endlessly oscillating echoes of the Big Bang? If intention is truly all that's needed, then just "ask and you shall receive." do not let time easily slip by. If I were to hold completely still, some could say I am wasting time, but I'm actually playing a trick on it. There is way more movement going on than my slow little thoughts would ever be able to keep up with. The more quiet I am able to become, the more i can feel electrons wiggling around, which maybe are just enjoying the bumpy ride at bazillion miles per hour = Earth rotation + solar orbit + galactic orbit + Laniakea current. Just let the earthly po-soul (sensory perceptions) seize the Mercury in the Vermilion, Mercury: a deliciously shiny liquid refined from Cinnabar, a vermilion red stone that was sometimes found down water wells. Here is a picture of such a stone (represented as a dot) being dug up out of a well. It is pronounced "dan," as in dantian. δΈΉ and you will have the celestial hun-soul by itself Immortal self will have forgot that mortal self was born? controlling the Metal in the Water. Ideation freed to manifest structure within a purely energetic realm? One can say that when the Way is lofty, Dragon and Tiger are subdued, If entirety of being is homogeneously aligned with eternity, then neither side will seek to overpower the other. and it may be said that when Virtue is hefty, gods and demons are restrained. If I only rely on a savior to absolve myself of sin, I'm also opening myself up to trickery by the opposite team. Don't buy in. Don't sell out. If Buddha invites you to a party, slap him. Once you know that your longevity equals that of Heaven and Earth, "We're made of star stuff." - Carl Sagan troubles and vexations have no way to rise... A typical vexation about the initial singularity of Big Bang model is, "How can you get something out of nothing?" I will attempt to answer this by examining how to get nothing out of something. Entropy. The inevitable decay of ordered systems back into chaos. Even the left over clumps and sputters are themselves subject to further entropy. Imagine this process carried out to its ultimate resolution, all forces neutralized, and all particles reduced to the single most absolute fundamental constituent, distributed completely uniformly. Is this uniformity suddenly the most ordered thing that has ever existed? Everything is already everywhere, all at once. There is only one. Singularity. ...to your heart. Having seen all this take place, a being who actually exists completely outside of the dimensions binding our universe, then becomes lonely. A single teardrop falls upon the infinitely smooth surface, and the rippling ensues anew. I must now "deliberately and urgently seek what is Yin." Quiet, Stillness, Settling.
  14. It's simple enough to feel what it means in a most general sense. Imagine you're standing under the sun, and slightly hunched over. The sunlit parts of your body are considered to be the yang side, and the shaded, protected parts are the yin side. When you hunch forward, your stomach and chest muscles kind of close inward, this is the yin type of movement. Now if you look up and lean backwards, the muscles in your back are flexing, charged with yang. One more quick example is to imagine as if you're hiding your eyes behind your arm when facing into a windstorm. The hard, bony elbow side is the yang protector, and the soft chewy yinside is safe. There are lists that can go on and on about how moving=yang, resting=yin; heated=yang, irrigated=yin; radiating=yang, nurturing=yin. Light vs shadow is just super apparent in nature. So then people started making associations to good vs evil, but i guess that's up to what we do with it. Not just in talking about qi but it shows up everywhere. Take Greek mythology - easy to see the dazzling lightning bolt of Zeus as yang, and the deep flowing depths of Poseidon's realm is yin. Just apply those feelings/ideas to how certain things inside your own mind and body manifest, and you'll get the hang of it. I think mostly comes from TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) terminology, whose main text for about 2000 years now is Huang Di Nei Jing - Yellow Emperor's Innards Scroll

  18. Calling all students of hermeticism

Wow good stuff, all. May your works be blessed. I probably won't be able to contribute much to the recipes, but hopefully can help temper the tools. Mostly just a small advice to not overdo certain things. A constant application of focused yet gentle attention on the root of the matter is often all that's needed. Like if i'm to boil an egg, it might help to be familiar with some of the molecular processes going on inside the shell, but ultimately it's not up to me to carry them out, just set up the optimal conditions for it to happen. I most like to illustrate it with a beautiful quote from some wise bums. It's on a different topic about daoist practice, but i like to think the principles carry over. Exactly this. What I personally like (and find difficult) about the concept of cultivation is there`s this sense that things can`t be forced. I can provide the right conditions for the growth of a plant, keep it watered, put it in a sunny window, etc. What I can`t do is reach into a stem and forcibly pull out the flower. These things happen in their own time according to their own mysterious logic.

  20. Seems most accounts place the Huang Di Nei Jing in the Han dynasty, few centuries after the Tao Te Ching (even though it claims to be an account of adventures made by the Yellow Emperor from 2600 BC .) There's a lot of overlap in the estimates though, so it's hard to pinpoint a particular chapter especially. Overall, my purely guessing is that the more "universal" philosophy of Lao Tzu was later adopted by medical scholars and tweaked for incorporation into their own work.
  21. speed of light foray

So does this mean that the speed of light is inversely proportional to the speed of getting lit?
  22. So that is where the idea came from, of making a metaphor for the organs/channels being different government officials and faculties. For example it's explicitly stated there that "The heart is the official functioning as ruler", and "The lung is the official functioning as chancellor and mentor," and so on. Within this context when it later says "if the ruler is enlightened, his subjects are in peace," it's easy for me to then consider whether my organs are getting enough oxygen. ( http://www.biblio.nhat-nam.ru/Huang_Di_Nei_Jing_Su_Wen-Unschuld-Tessenow-1-2.pdf ) I can see how that kind of thinking would also have then been applied to the poetry of Lao Tzu.
  23. That was my first impression, that it was meant as a hint, to make you think "what the heck could this chapter be about, then?" As in the ones Jeff pointed out, it's clearly sounding like there are others involved. The key, I've heard, is that the nation is meant as one's own body, with the population and everything else being the different agencies interacting inside. Otherwise i'd agree that the "only person on earth" could still have not really been meant literally, but as a figure of speech to rely on your own intuition at the time, and dispel any preconceived notions or hangups.
