  1. There are some psychologists and psychiatrists who have come to accept the reality of spirits and have written about their therapies for addressing such devices. Thomas Zinser - author of "Soul-Centered Healing, A Psychologists Extraordinary Journey into the Realms of Sub-personalities, Spirits, and Past Lives". Also author of a two-volume instructional manual for therapists. Retired, but has a website and is doing interviews. David Furlong is active in this area as a therapist and healer. Founder of the Spirit Release Forum. Psychiatrist Shakuntala Modi - "Remarkable Healings: A Psychiatrist Discovers Unsuspected Roots of Mental and Physical Illness". Psychologist William Baldwin wrote an early book addressing related issues - "Spirit Releasement Therapy: A Technique Manual". Psychiatrist Alan Sanderson has been active in this area as well, writing about spirit release in clinical psychiatry.
  2. Can you say a bit more about the "mind stopping" technique you have used and your experience with it?
  3. Key Verses for You?

Verse 16 may also be interpreted as a way of contemplation that leads to mystical union with the Dao. In this context, "Returning to the source" would mean something quite specific. What is the root or source of this heart-mind, this present awareness? Here is another translation of 16 - this, by John C. H. Wu. Attain to utmost Emptiness. Cling single-heartedly to interior peace. While all things are stirring together, I only contemplate the Return. For flourishing as they do, Each of them will return to its root. To return to the root is to find peace. To find peace is to fulfill one's destiny. To fulfill one's destiny is to be constant. To know the Constant is called Insight. If one does not know the Constant, One runs blindly into disasters. If one knows the Constant, One can understand and embrace all. If one understands and embraces all, One is capable of doing justice. To be just is to be kingly; To be kingly is to be heavenly; To be heavenly is to be one with the Tao; To be one with the Tao is to abide forever. Such a one will be safe and whole Even after the dissolution of the body.
  4. Lankavatara Sutra

"Arhats rise when the error of all discrimination is realized. Error being discriminated by the Wise turns into Truth by virtue of the 'turning about' that takes place within the deepest consciousness." This striking phrase occurs repeatedly in the Lankavatara Sutra - "the 'turning about' that takes place within the deepest consciousness". I believe this is "asraya paravrtti", sometimes translated as "transformation of the basis", "overturning the basis" or "revolution at the base of consciousness". As a practitioner with an interest in Chan, I have come to associate this with the early Chan practice of "contemplating mind" the direct path in which the mind turns back upon itself and counter-illuminates the non-dual, space-like mind-source. This practice perhaps continues in Zen's "eko hensho" and the "backward step that turns the light and shines it inward".

There are also dietary approaches that could be considered, natural treatments involving the ketogenic diet and the modified Atkins diet, along with a range of nutritional supplements, including omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D3. https://www.epilepsy.com/learn/treating-seizures-and-epilepsy/dietary-therapies/ketogenic-diet https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/neurology_neurosurgery/centers_clinics/epilepsy/adult/adult-epilepsy-diet-center/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5143473/
  6. Greetings

Hi LimA, These are non-dual, objectless, formless practices that seem to be about turning the light of awareness upon itself and tracing it back to its source through a kind of inversion of awareness - emptying, negating,"forgetting". I am only beginning to understand, but I know that there are levels of reality that are more fluid, dynamic, intimately interconnected, without hard borders... and the term "subtle energies" seems to apply. Thank you for the questions.
  7. Greetings

Hello all, happy to have found TDB. My main interest is in Daoist and Chan meditation/contemplation, especially the apophatic practices associated with early texts. I'm also interested in the internal arts, the relationship between mind and subtle energies. Thanks to everyone for their contributions to the forum.
