How to deal with feelings of unreality?
old3bob replied to Tryingtodobetter's topic in General Discussion
if a true guru has not started and guided a person into deeper forms of meditation then one could get into trouble much easier. A simple observation/concentration/centering and relaxing session (for instance walking in nice outdoor setting) should be fine by oneself for body and mind, but in going further it is suggested to have a guide. Also karma yoga/service should keep us from depression or feelings of unreality which are really a lie or a twisting against the lifeforce which is in, all around and through us and everything else! -
ask the lineage holders and or Satguru's of thousand, two thousand year old schools why they do such a thing?

Sumer: the "black-headed" vs. the "red-faced"
old3bob replied to Taomeow's topic in General Discussion
Well if you are interested here is Hindu related link where you can download a pdf file/book called "Lermurian Scrolls" (visions) https://www.himalayanacademy.com/view/lemurian-scrolls -
right, and a heads up for those who may get the impression that there are only a few schools when there are hundreds times "x" or maybe thousands?

I'd say concerns for that school and its students but not others.

well the main Saivite sects don't agree on everything either... so other than having a basic understanding and recognition of common ground shared with Buddhism I'd say leave the rest for the Buddhists to work on...for we all have enough on our particular plates to deal with.

a clear example/teaching can be found in a section of Chandogya Upanishad (among others) that step by step states how all else springs from the Self! For instance : "To one who sees, perceives and understands Self (Soul) as Truth, asserts the Upanishad in section 7.26, the life-principle springs from the Self, hope springs from the Self, memory springs from the Self, as does mind, thought, understanding, reflection, conviction, speech, and all outer worldly knowledges.

Sumer: the "black-headed" vs. the "red-faced"

just dropped into this thread, and wow tons of information here! Btw. if we are going back in time can we also add the legends of the Lemurians mentioned in visions? -
well trying to mix Buddhism and Hinduism together (both of which have various and quite different sects) can easily blow the mind...(which can be very problematic)
-
again, only a tiny percentage of people can and do live the dharma of a complete renunciate or sannyasin...and for householders to try and do so would be against and conflict with their rightful dharma.

"'Internal renunciation’ is renunciation of the ego whereas ‘external renunciation’ is giving up possessions. Together they are known as giving up ‘I’ and ‘mine’. It is the former that results in enlightenment.'" by Neti neti That is an important part of it but I'd say there is a whole lot more than that regarding Sannyasins! (although and of course I'm not one but have done a little study on the subject)

I have not been to that thread...but I agree that ancient man was probably way to busy (and small in numbers) trying to survive the elements and wild creatures to have much occasion for warring with each other; if that is what you mean? Having said that there was still resource competition that must have sometimes turned deadly since those ancients also had weapons that were used for more than just hunting. (per ancient human bones found with weapon injury marks or crushed skulls. Also how far back we want to go in time and place to determine or draw a line as to what indigenous/tribal peoples means seems rather debatable)

well there are many examples of native peoples getting along and also of them being in bloody wars with each other. For instance many of the north American Indian nations once had serious wars or at least battles with each other, and so did many of the south American native peoples. (at different times in history) There are also many accounts of early tribes on the European continent at war, wars among native peoples on the African continent including those of Egyptian history, wars among Mediterranean or early middle eastern area peoples, etc., etc..
-
Many native peoples of ancient times (who did not have paper money) also fought and killed each other on horrific scales! Imagine the ancient Hawaiians who lived in a very plentiful and moderate paradise killing each other left and right until they were more or less unified under King Kamehameha. Anyway I submit that various forms of co-operation per forms of government related to sharing natural resource's and promoting livable, decent norms among people are not inherently corrupt they just and often become that way without very wise, careful and humane people keeping up same.

Not sure what you mean by "renunciation is simply being the Self" ? I meant renunciation as the very strict path or lifestyle if you will for a limited number of people who are vowed to certain traditional Hindu sects; with some of those sects being the strictest that there is. (under the title of Sannyasins, which elder householders may join after spending most of a lifetime as householders) Anyway, there are a lot of yoga related methods and schools that would be better named or recognized as quasi-Hindu since they leave out a lot of the traditional, religious and guru-discipleship aspects that are part and parcel of long time lineages mostly from India. And to leave out those aspects can definitely result in problems! (like householders taking up some renunciate practices or vice-a-versa) For myself I definitely appreciate the Hindu teachings and at times have shared my very limited understanding of same, but I know that I will not be a renunciate in this lifetime nor be qualified to speak as one...which many of us sometimes act like by quoting and thus in ways advocating the methods that are really for Renunciates/Rishis/Gurus/yogis/etc.... but which very few of us are prepared for or trained in.

the truth is hidden in plain sight right under our noses, so how does one look under their noses (not in), a good mirror could help.
