āGolden Elixir is another name for xing and mingāĀ ā Liu Yiming
Cleansox replied to Geof Nanto's topic in Daoist Discussion
Funny enough, Bruce Frantzis claims that his method is the same as Lao Tze practiced. I was going to write earlier that I also, like so many others, have done cross-cultural studies and that I found striking resemblances of key points relating to the practice, rather that how the experience is framed. This resemblance is not found in modern public versions, where some aspects of energetics are changed and simplified. But I realised that this might still not be in the vincinity of what you was thinking about (and, seeing your clarification to my question, it probably isn't) , and I am reluctant to develope this thought further. Interesting thread though. -

I forgot, had you read the article? If you have, does this in your opinion relate to the true/false Ming/Xing as described there (page 51/207)? -

Absolutely. Can you give some sort of time frame for this? Is ancient =predates yellow court classic? Or is ancient =Follows the methodology that Zhan Boduan/the Zhong-Lu tradition laid down in well known texts? Or is there another point in time where we can see that tradition changed? Approaches have changed. -

I think that @MIchael80's post above clarify this, as there is more beyond this. -

I feel that that shines through some of the translations of classic texts, where it sometimes seems that the translators does a "jurassic park", ie fills in the holes in the genome with whatever material is available. Which is good to know when one is extending ones library with another nei dan book. -

Yes. There are striking resemblances, including some of the practical methodology. -

I read that for the first time in 2012, and didn't understand a word of it. I didn't even know I was practicing a method where it was relevant, my teacher only confirmed that after I had some breakthroughs in my practice. In the method I use, it is Ming first, but then Ming and Xing together. Saying that, I would not disagree with the notion that doing Xing properly will also affect Ming, when coming to the Dragon and Tiger that is sort of an option in how to put it. -

From the info online, I would guess that Scott frames this context different than most. So I ordered one of his books, just to learn more š Yes, not only sensing but inhabiting the peripersonal space (the technical term for that space) is a part of it. -

I would not go so far as saying you are wrong, but you are boldly taking the terms into areas unchartered by the books I have studied. Maybe that is how the terms can be used within a DDJ framework, or perhaps within another more philosophical view? At least the Nanzhong tradition tend to be more practical, more focused on replenishing the actual Ming (with the super secret Ming methods that are mentioned, or rather not mentioned, in older threads). And then you work with both Ming and Xing. Liu I-Ming makes things more complicated... -

Do you follow a specific method for creating the External Medicine, or do you work from the other direction? -

Obviously not. Too bad, could have saved me some time and effort.

The Supreme Superiorās Jade Canon on the External view of the Yellow Court
Cleansox replied to Bindi's topic in Daoist Textual Studies
If it is in the right location. And that can be argued... š We will never know. Check out Olsen. He thinks that the one foot area is the entire yellow court, and that there are three of them (Jerry Alan Johnson have great images of it), and the square inch would be the dantian proper. In the middle section (which the text is about, isn't this from section two/middle section), this would be the chest area, with a focus on the red chamber. Maybe... I reserv the right to be wrong š -
The Supreme Superiorās Jade Canon on the External view of the Yellow Court
Cleansox replied to Bindi's topic in Daoist Textual Studies
One interesting thing here is: What is the twelve storied tower? Is it the trachea, which have 12-20 cartilage rings? Or is it the rib cage, which has 12 ribs? And the square inch field in the one foot area, why is only one translation specifying the face? The description of what location we are supposed to work with here is rather confusing. Another thing worth mentioning is the usage of the term "pre-heaven jing". Is that in the text? Or is that an interpretation, adding things that actually developed later? I have a bit left in Stuart Alve Olson's translation of the External Yellow Court Classic, and then Jade Writing is next. -
No. Which is at the level of laying the foundations. Again, laying the foundations. At least you are. I can tell you. I practiced a traditional method under supervision, a fair amount of practice under a considerable long time. You are focusing on one level of Nei Dan. Are you aware of the idea that there are other levels? I would say no. From the view of your practice, working with post heavenly substances will lead to the pre heavenly state. And maybe it will. Who knows. From the view of my practice, working with pre heavenly methods will lead to interesting results. And swallowing saliva is not included in that. Working with insubstantial Water is.

It's not about time. It's not about saliva. You create ling sui. When you have opened shit up, it has only one way to go.

That is not the point. The point is, were they diplomatic enough. Read Seans rules. 1) Feel free to be weird! 2) Rules of conduct.

It might be very taoistic, yet when it comes from a member who himself does not follow this, it is easier to see it as a way of saying "shut up". Especially in a context where that crossed my mind as well, but I choose not to be as explicit about it. It's a forum after all, people must be allowed to have ideas even though I disagree with them. I'm not saying anything about @Earl Grey's intention behind this since I do not read minds, but if a member have a history of being asked to be more diplomatic in his/her posts, that change is expected to be manifested in the posts.

Does anyone know how do I convert my discipline and willpower into QiGong mastery for free?

If you like books, Kundalini Energy of the depths writes some about it. Interoception, proprioception, touch. In that order, I believe. -
