Is the Universe, and thereby God, moral?
helpfuldemon replied to helpfuldemon's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
I think morality and its fruit is self evident, as is immorality. I think that the Gods that interact with mankind are not fully on the side of morality- that they like to provoke drama and instigate conflict. I dont have an answer as to why that is, but from my experience, it seems that this is how things are. I suspect that boredom has something to do with it- that we are pawns in a game of want and discovery, and that should we all be peaceful and orderly, not only would our evolution stagnate, but also the Gods would get bored with us. -
Palpatine does have real powers

You can learn power over yourself, but every person has their own power, and to overcome their Will to get yours is tricky buisiness.
-
You want power? Educate yourself in something valuable, like science or politics. Learn the art of coercion.

It amazes me that mankind could live without it for so long. It amazes me how much we have created in the last 200 years.

My Transformation and Spiritual Enlightenment
helpfuldemon replied to Shanmugam's topic in General Discussion
why do people think enlightenment is a one way thing? Many, many people are enlightened. It all depends on your social circumstance and cultural circumstance, as well as personal moral code and preferences. There is no "singular enlightenment". It just means you are no longer an "either/or" type of person, you fully know yourself and how you will react. You want to get more specific than that, youre talking about cultural norms and societal standards, and these will vary from place to place, age to age.- 29 replies

You can do that now, here. Technology has given us so much, all the way down to our comfortable beds! Alas, it is sad to say that for all we accomplished, disaster can still strike. Then, of course, there are the weapons we created... But really, medicine, automobiles, factories for mass production, the printing press, HEAT and AC! So many blessings.

Has anyone ever experienced or read about this?
helpfuldemon posted a topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
Hi so Ive had some pretty phenomenal mystical experiences that Ive struggle with for a long time, but I dont want to talk about them, I want to talk about what it feels like. I laid down to meditate one day years ago and I was thinking about the world and how it seemed to be order, but then the thought came into my head "NO! Its all chaos!" and then I heard a terrible grinding sound, my groin cracked open, my head cracked open, my awareness turned on its side and these wires entered my penis and anus and brain. This has been going on for a long time, and its gotten pretty bad at times. I recall watching these wires enter my brain and diddle with the glands in the center of my head, and overtake my whole body. I also saw a serpent eat part of my brain and send me spiraling into oblivion. Any reading materials that talk about stuff like this? I really hope someone has some answers, because Im tired. -
Is being away from those things a privilage, or is it how its supposed to be, and the ones that have them are below the norm?

When I think about humanity, and the honor of the Gods, and the honor from mankind... and I think about technology, and art, and governing, I realize that so few of us lead great lives, and that the only way to be great, should you have no place in society or science, is to be a great person of moral truth and dignity.

Fear is a response to danger, it should be that simple. We do not want pain or debilitation, or anything detrimental to our natural order.

Hi I've been noticing in my meditations lately that at different states, the air around me gets cooler and more noticeable. Is there any literature on this as a phenomenon?

I no longer enquire about the self. I have reached the emptiness that your quote suggests, and I am prepared for what comes. I found my moral ground and this was all I needed for stability and understanding. I know that my moral ground is not static for all people, but because I found it, I understand my actions and reactions. -
My advice is go to thrift stores, libraries that have a used book store inside and libraries in general. Pick up some good compilation of history books. Theres a good series on philosophy its soft cover its on Amazon, I cant remember the author but they are text books, each in a bold color, theres six of them now I believe, its a two year course of text books. I found it invaluable. This is one of the series Amazon.com: A History of Western Philosophy, Vol. 5: The Twentieth Century to Wittgenstein and Sartre (9780155383173): W. T. Jones: Books Wait until the semester is over and they are usually ten bucks each. I also found the history of the world by Penguin classics to be good, and its good to find a history of political thought book. When it comes to philosophy, remember that it is about morals, what is right and what is happiness. This is the key to all religion and philosophy. It is also about how the Universe came to be and what is prime. Basically, it is all opinion on the good life. The world is fire and measurement, fuel and form, and movement. Action is judged based on Good and Evil, Good being to assist, not harm, and not obstruct and Evil being to harm and obstruct. Once you hit Machiavelli you see that great thinkers decided that even though we have the perfect moral code, it is necessary to break it sometimes. Then comes Nietszche who says break it when it suits you. But if you stick to freedom and harming, you will be good in light of what is true to all of us instinctually.

My summary of simple philosophical foundations
helpfuldemon posted a topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
There are two main truths to existence; the spiritual truth, and the material truth. The material truth is that the Universe is form, fuel, fire, matter, motion and measurement. From here we have developed the physical sciences. The spiritual truth is desire, and duty, and the myriad combinations of emotions based on the joy and sorrow that is felt from them. From here we have developed the sacred and profane, and the laws from which we engage existence. Mankind is mostly a neutral being, having propensities towards all action, and we have sorted out these actions to suit our sensibilities of knowledge from birth to death. Mankind must exist in a social world, and so many of our rules and laws require co-operation of the parts to create the whole, and from there we establish society. From society, we establish social norms and innovations which we call civilization, and we carry much of these things throughout the Ages. Of the two main truths of existence, there is the actual, and the ideal, and often we struggle with the disparagement of the actual not fitting with the ideal. Life is not ideal, for people have the freedom of choice, and the environment provides opportunity to stray from the ideal choices, and so mankind needs to watch the actual and gauge events based upon these while keeping in mind the ideal, which is how we hope events to play out. -

My summary of simple philosophical foundations
helpfuldemon replied to helpfuldemon's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
Time is intangible except in that we can measure it, which makes it real. -
Is there a mature being within us? Was it there at birth, or did it manifest at some age? What is self? What is self other than our collective experience? We begin life with our bodies, our capacity to experience, and then we go through life experiencing. So, we are essentially limbs, senses, memory, language- placed in an environment with other ideas and people, and we rise in age and experience interacting with these tools. So, is there an inner soul that is separate, that somehow aids us in navigating life? Do these two bridge ever? Is one eternal and the other transient? Where do these souls come from if not harvested from the person we become post soul infusion? How do you become self, and how do you lose self? Does empathy aid us in becoming or losing self? If I become empathic, do I lose myself or do I become more aware of my self? If I lose myself in empathy, do I not become others? When does no-self manifest? Do we need to return to the tools of body and senses and strip or explain our experiences so that we are masters of our reality? Can we ever shed these things completely? Is there a fundamental One Reality that makes perfect sense from all angels? Is it necessary to discover this One Reality in order to organize ourselves into a perfect oneness of self? Can we ever escape our past deeds? At death, if I master my experiences, where do I move on to? Is there a tunnel that I travel to find a more advanced, future place, or do I return here in a more perfected soul, given another chance to live and act?
