Dear Dao Bums, I'll do this in 4 parts: Intro Practices and personal experiences Conclusion on practice Questions for you Intro Last night I finally managed 3 lucid dreams in a row!!! I am over the moon I've been wanting to lucid dream since I was a teenager. I've gone to several tibetan buddhist workshops with renowned dream yoga lamas, read more than 3 books, watched countless interviews and read countless accounts online. Furthermore, I've been practicing daoist sleeping qigong for more than 4 years (not daily, but in practice cycles). I never felt I got anything from it! It only disturbed my sleep! I had 2 lucid dreams as a teenager. I knew I was dreaming, I knew it was all a dream, yet I could neither control myself nor the dream. This was with buddhist dream yoga and "western scientific" lucid dream (setting an intention, getting up during the night to reset intention etc). In my twenties I managed 3 lucid dreams, when I started to seriously meditate and dream journal. It was simply a byproduct. Here I could not control the environment, but I knew I was dreaming, and I could control myself. For the past 2 weeks I remembered my almost life long desire to lucid dream, and decided to give it a go again Practices and personal experiences What I've been doing buddhist wise is the purification breathing before sleep, visualising a red flower in the throat chakra, chanting the syllables of each petal and also visualising them (Om Ah Nu Ta Ra). None of it gave me anything. Daoist sleeping qigong, I learnt from master Wu. There are 2 sleeping positions, flat on the back with a mudra on your navel, and on your side with one hand on the navel and the other holding a mudra on your ear. You then visualise certain things. No matter how much I tried it, it has only been about 5 or 6 times I felt better sleep from it. All the other times, it simply feels like a qigong. You can feel the qi and blood circulating in your body. There was only 2 times in a particular retreat, where he shared 2 new visualisations he never shared before, that on the first night with the first visualisation, something really happened, and the second night with the second visualisation, I got really deep and restful sleep immediately. However, after I got back home and continued the practice, it didn't have the same effect. Lastly, the past 2 weeks, I gave it a go again with tibetan buddhist practices.... And last night it paid off!! The game changer for me was a bรถn method from Dr Nida Chenagtsang (I got it from his book "tibetan art of dream analysis"). It's a 5 step visualisation before sleep. This was what allowed me to finally experience lucid dreaming! And it was awesome! I was aware I was dreaming, I could control myself and the environment. It was super dope Conclusion on practice I feel there are 3 things which led to me finally experience lucid dreaming: 1) pure and open channels and energy centers (after 9 years of daily meditation and 7 years of daily qigong, now adding 14 days of daily tibetan practice, finally opened my channels and centers sufficiently) 2) sufficiently strong energy (I could actually feel that in the 3rd dream, the environment was a bit less responsive to my desired changes, I think the reason is that it actually takes some energy to control the dream) 3) I finally accumulated sufficient good karma (never hurt yourself or others, physically or mentally, help alleviate the suffering of others when you can, love and forgive) The tibetan practices I did for the last 14 days were: 9 purification breaths, breath holding meditation from the first steps of karma mudra meditation (the non sexual ones) and the bรถn visualisation before sleeping. Questions for you Would you like to share your experiences? 1) How did you get to be able to lucid dream? 2) Which practices did you follow, and for how long? 3) What do you do, during lucid dreams? 4) What are your greatest "pro tips" for lucid dreaming? 5) Anything you would like to add on the subject of lucid dreaming? May you all be blessed!

@dwai Thanks for sharing! Very interesting about the non-dual self inquiry. One of my sleeping qigong experiences was experiencing the body go to sleep, but the mind staying awake. Then I experienced what it is that happens in our body during sleep, that restores it. How the qi and blood circulate to different places at different times during the night. How a portion of our jing is "taken from the bank" and circulated into our body to rebuild it etc. Later that night, after many hours of observing the qi and blood moving in to body, and jing being added into the mix, my mind went into deep sleep. But just like you mentioned, I was aware of being in the deep sleep, this primordial awareness, conscioussness or being (or could even be described as non-being). It's hard to put into words, but it felt like being reduced to the last, irreducible part of "me" or simple "is-ness", or something even beyond "is-ness". Very cool thanks for sharing!

True meditation and its power (dharana, dhyana, samadhi)
Nuralshamal replied to Nuralshamal's topic in Hindu Discussion
In several yoga shastras, they do indeed give measurements. In the Kurma Purana for example, they state that 12 dharanas equals 1 dhyana, whereas 12 dhyanas equal one samadhi. -
True meditation and its power (dharana, dhyana, samadhi)
Nuralshamal replied to Nuralshamal's topic in Hindu Discussion
@Learner This is something that took me many, many years to experientially understand Let me give two explanations for what it means "to meditate on something", a long and a short one. 1) longer and more detailed You have attention. This attention is physical and tangible. When you think about something, your physical attention goes to it. As you're reading this, your attention is on the screen and the words. If I say "well, what about your right hand?", then your attention would naturally go to your right hand, you feel your right hand, you become aware of it. Then you go back to the screen. This physical, tangible attention - training and controlling it is meditation. You can put this attention on different places in your body, that's what's done during a "body scan" meditation. It's a great way for getting your attention back into your body. You can put your attention on your body, your breath, a mantra, or a visualisation. If you visualise something, you build a picture in your mind. Then you hold your attention on that picture, maintaining it for as long as possible. If it goes, you rebuild it and maintain it. 2) short: you put your attention on something. So, if you were to meditate on a chakra, it means you send your attention to that physical location in your body. If you want to meditate on the sun, you visualise it and maintain that visualisation. So, dharana, dhyana and samadhi are tangible measurements for how long you can control your attention without it being diverted. Can you progress without a teacher? Yes, of course. But, similarly to reading, writing, doing math etc. Imagine how long it would take to learn on your own, vs how long it takes to learn, if you have a teacher, showing you how to do it. Meditation is similar to all learning in the world. Whether it's swimming, driving a car, playing a sport, compare mentally how long it would take to learn on your own, vs having it taught to you by someone who's experienced in that. So I would definitely try to find a teacher, it will save you a lot of time -
@steve Thanks for your detailed answers and responses!!! I will definitely check up on Yungdrung Bรถn. It was a Bรถn visualisation that led to my own breakthrough in lucid dream, so I wouldn't mind checking out some more Bรถn Kudos to your dedicated practice!! It fuels my own motivation to keep going

Dear Dao Bums, An update Last night, I did the visualisation before sleep, and whenever turning over during the night. Nothing happened... until the morning hours I had decided I would try to get life explanation this night, if I became lucid. This morning I dreamt I was in a bus. I knew it was a dream, I was inside my own mind, I was the creator of the dream, I was lucid. I commanded "I command my guardian angel to appear before me! I want answers!" with my hand stretched out. I stood and concentrated on it, a blue light appeared in front of me. It took a little time to fully manifest, I simply meditated on it. Then a blue and white light was in front of me. I asked about the Divine meaning behind the things which had happened to me from 2014 and up until today. (I did this because 2014-2017 was some of the worst 3 years of my life). I got an answer for something that happened in 2014, which put my heart at ease. Then I was in the process of getting an answer for something that happened in 2015, which started to put my mind at ease. But I only managed to get about 70% of the answer, then unfortunately I was woken up by noises in my house!! The explanations were not all that surprising, but it still "made things fall into place", in my heart and in my mind. I am surprised it's only such a short period in the morning hours I can become lucid. I thought the ability would build up a bit faster from day to day. Instead it has decreased a little bit the past couple of days. It's becoming shorter and shorter. Maybe it really does take a lot of energy out of you? I will experiment more and see how it goes God bless!

@Learner Protection I think this is a very justified position! I've heard many horror stories! Both the Indian Village yogi, as well as SKY masters, both have emphasised the importance of proper protection while doing it. Tibetan Mandala for Astral Travel I've never been able to figure it out. I've tried for several years I even looked up all the tibetan buddhist centers in the city of Geneva online, went to their site, trying to figure out who was teaching mandala meditation, and which mandalas they were using. But I don't know how many years ago the incident took place. The hindu monk had been there for about 20-30 years, so it's impossible to tell exactly which period this incident took place. But I hereby officially invite everyone reading to join me on this mystery hunt!! If you know any teacher or any practice of astral travel, sukshma sharir ki yatra, mind travel, subtle body travel, any kind of name, please share it

@mcoolio Yes, I completely feel you. I've also suffered from bad sleep all my life, so that's why I never got too much into lucid dreaming practices, which mess with your sleep (e.g. getting up multiple times during the night etc). I'll respond in 4: Sleep, Journaling, Heights, Book recommendation Sleep I fixed my sleep with: 1) Chinese Medicine (if you can't fall asleep, it's the Heart, if you can't stay asleep, i.e. wake up several times during the night, it's the Liver). So, find out what's wrong with them (lack of yin, lack of blood, too much heat are some of the things I had) and fix it. 2) Qigong and meditation over a long period of time (especially Simplified Kundalini Yoga, meditation on the third eye chakra and the root chakra) 3) Sri Vidya aksharamala japa (reciting and visualising the sanskrit letters on the petals of chakras, opening different nadis. The nadis nam and naam on each side of the obliques muscles, related to the navel chakra open the liver channel which goes up through the liver, through the heart, the neck, the brain and into the innermost corner of each eye This was the blockage that had f'ed up my sleep for so long. When I managed to open it with the nam and naam visualisation and mantra, it made a huge difference. I've written more about it here: 4) Getting up and going to sleep at the same time every day 5) Sleeping in a completely dark room, with correct temperature (a bit colder than you'd think) 6) Eating the amino acid l-tryptophane before going to bed (a precursor to the sleep hormone melatonin, melatonin by itself was never good for me, I woke up groggy, whereas with l-tryptophane I wake up feeling well-rested) 7) Eating a healthy and sufficient diet with meals eaten "on the dot" (steady rhytm each day). Not eating enough has actually damaged my sleep several times. 8) Don't eat too close to bed time (3 hours before at least) 9) Work out (physical work out, strength, cardio and stretch, western style) at least 3-4 times per week 10) Contrast baths (sauna and ice bath, back and forth 3 times) You don't have to do all the things, it's just a list of my own "greatest hits" l-tryptophane and chinese herbs are the fastest and easiest, what worked the best for me. Journaling Yes, this really seems to be key. It's what's given me and also Mandrake lucid dreams. However, it's only now that I can control the dream, I couldn't do that before. I think it's related to the power of one's energy and the openess of channels. It takes time to build up. Heights This is interesting. My own dreams, since I was a teenager, always revolve around two central themes: 1) being chased, 2) being in a war, fight, combat Maybe 60-80% of my dreams fall into the above two themes. The rest of the time, it's a mix of things currently happening in my life, my emotions, or some hints about what close friends or family members are going through, or life advice. I think heights could indeed be related to the chakras. Maybe it's a symbol for always staying in the upper chakras, watching and observing life and oneself, without never really "getting into it", and really living and really "feeling" the anger, the lust, the sorrow etc. Really feeling and being in touch with life, including all the "non-PC" sides Book The book I've recently read, which I really enjoyed, is Dr Nida Chenagtsang's "The Tibetan Art of Dream Analysis". I got it on Kindle. The way I've interpreted dreams throughout my life has been: 1) psychological (e.g. this symbolises my father, my brother, my mother etc, this symbolises my issues around inadequacy, anger etc). This is mostly my main stay and go-to way of analysing, since I was interested in psychology from my teenage years. 2) The five elements (according to the color and object, you know which of the 5 organs are imbalanced, and you fix it with qigong and herbs. This was taught to me by Master Wu. It's very easy and practical.) 3) Channels and energy (whenever I've been in profound contact with someone, my dreams change that night, simply because I have some of their energy in my system. In this approach, dreams are simply the energies in your channels manifesting themselves as visions. So, if your channels are clean and pure, your dreams are clean and pure. If they're messed up, it's simply bad energy, foreign energy or a blockage).

Dear Dao Bums, An update! Last night I did the bรถn visualisation before sleep, and whenever I woke up to turn over during the night.... Nothing!!! Until the morning hours, finally, something happened I dreamt that I was on a beach in a warzone. An enemy patrol came, and I was pleading for my life with the leader. Finally, one of his men suddenly and out of nowhere shot me in the ribcage. It hurt and burnt so bad! Then I awoke. I told myself "it's all just a dream. All the pain, fright, warzone, it's all my own mind. I am the creator of the dream." Then I fell back to sleep. I was lucid dreaming, that I was in my childhood home. I went out, and flew through the air down the street. I noticed there were some trees, which had fallen over on the road. I said to myself "I will restart this dream, but this time, no trees fallen over, everything will be in perfect order!" I shouted like a command, and clapped my hands. I was back in my childhood home, and about to fly out again, however, instead everything turned pitch black. "What's this?" I wondered. Then I had a sensation of falling down in the darkness. It was very strange. There was nothing in existence, everything black, yet I still clearly felt I was falling. Then I remembered I read in a dream yoga book, that the sensation of falling indicates going down to a lower chakra. Then it happened again! After this second fall, wherever I was "in the darkness" was slightly uncomfortable. It was like there was a kind of scary pressure around me. Then I fell again. This time the frightening and invisible pressure around me got to the point, where I could barely take it. It was so much pressure and so scary, I felt like I couldn't take it anymore. I thought to myself "maybe I should stop it and get out?", but somehow I said "it's just a dream, it's just your own mind, relax and see what happens". Then I fell down again. It was unbearable, but I decided to wait it out and see what happens. Then I "flew up a level", and the scary pressure lessened. Then I flew up again, and again, and again. And suddenly the pressure was all gone, and I actually felt good. I realized I had started in my solar plexus (that's where I had the dream of fallen trees). Then I fell down to the navel, which felt ok. Then I felt to the genital, which was where I questioned whether I should stop, because of the pressure. Finally, I was at the perineum, where I could not take it anymore, if I had fallen again. Then I ascended up through the genital, navel and solar plexus. When I got to the heart, I started feeling good. In the throat, I felt so free and light. Finally, in the head, I felt wonderful. Free and light. I was waiting for it to continue to go to the crown, but nothing happened. Instead I could kind of sense a pressure around my left eye which was really bothering me. I wanted to wait it out, but I just couldn't take the pressure. So, I woke myself up, and realized the pillow was kind of pushing into my left eye! I also felt my whole body was electric, and as if all the chakras "I had just gone through" were more open and full of substantial power than usually, especially my genital and root. Take homes Make sure your sleeping position doesn't impede the flow of blood and energy in your body, nor puts uncomfortable pressure anywhere. It can disturb the dreaming. During the night, whenever I woke up, I found myself attaching importance to the dream, telling myself I would remember it in the morning. This was with the purpose of interpreting it. However, it was only when I "let go" of attaching importance to the dream, trying to remember it, that I became lucid. I needed to let go of this importance I attach to dreams, and instead say "it's just a dream, a product of my mind". This perspective allowed me to become lucid in the end. Lastly, I am trying to understand why the two lowest chakras were so unbearable to be in. Either, it's simply because there's less awareness and more instinctive auto-pilot behaviour programmed into these two chakras in general, which the consciousness senses as pressure and fright. Otherwise, it's my own personal development, where I feel good about the activities done by the navel, solar plexus, heart, throat and head chakra, and have also purified and strengthened these chakras in my daily life and living. Whereas I still have not accepted the activities of the two lower chakras completely, and therefore they are not as pure, because I surpress their activities in my daily life. Or maybe it's a mix of both I will see how it goes. But man! It was scary!! Really, truly frightening. And I am very seldomnly scared in my normal life. But this was very frightening.

@mcoolio Thanks for sharing your experiences! And thanks for the suggestions @Master Logray Yes, Master Wu mentioned the same thing about sleeping qigong. You shouldn't be "doing" things, you should be resting. That is the "natural" way. This "complete black out sleep" is what happened to me as one of my sleeping qigong experiences during a retreat with him. It was called "shui gong" and translated as "three hearts return to one root". Outside of the retreat, I've only experienced once (by myself) where I succeeded with this. You lie down in the appropriate posture, do the mudra, start the visualisation, and when you get to the end, you go into immediate and complete blackout sleep. This came from the "hidden immortal" TaiJi lineage (as far as I remember). @Mandrake 1) thanks for sharing! Yes, my few mid twenties experiences with lucid dream was also from journaling very interesting! 3) Thanks for sharing last night, I did the same thing; when it happened (lucid), I "lived" some of the things I've always desired in real life, yet never really quite suceeded. Boy was it satisfying I woke up extremely happy, fulfilled and full of energy. If my dream practice starts to stabilise (I really hope so!), I will read up on useful spiritual things to do

@Rakiel I'm glad you liked it! For the others, here's an additionnal observation from the course. In SKY (simplified kundalini yoga), the first chakra activated is between the eyebrows, bringing the vibration of energy into your conscious awareness. My girlfriend was in the house, while I was doing the zoom call. (there are 5 levels in SKY, I'm at level 5, she's at level 2). She asked me later if it had been a good course, but she figured it had, because she was feeling the vibration between her eyebrows during my zoom call (she wasn't meditating or anything, just doing things around the house). That means Master Zhang's qi transmission to me was so strong, that it also spread to my girlfriend Pretty interesting!

Update: So, I did the 2 hour intro class to meditation today. I'm very impressed! Before his speech he did a 10-20 sec. qigong form which had several bursts of sword finger toward us, and big stares towards us (the audience), and I could feel the qi reaching me. (he sent qi through the fingers and eyes). His qi was very powerful. He is definitely legit There were many, many similarities to Master Wu's teachings ; the use of mantras and mudras to guide the qi. They both use the mantras "heng" to guide qi down the ren mai to the lower dan tien, the mantra "en" to guide the qi up along the du mai and spine to the head, the mantra "wung/ong" to guide the qi to the heavenly gate (crown), and mantra "hai" to guide the qi to the kidneys. I read on their pages they have both learnt from Mount Emei. I think the mantras and mudras are from Emei. The main difference in teaching style is that Master Wu is always focusing on the lower dan tien. He never really mentions the middle or upper dan tien, only if pressed in a theoretical Q&A session, but never in practice. However, master Zhang mentioned the third eye and upper dan tien from the very beginning, and we used it in our very first meditation. That is definitely a striking difference! Master Wu also emphasises the form, practice, practice, practice, using the body again and again, to feel it through your body. Master Zhang spent the biggest portion of the 2 hours explaining. So, their teaching style and personality is definitely very different (from what can be gathered after just a 2 hour intro session ) But both are definitely legit, high level masters, with powerful qi, authentic methods and great teachings. May you all be blessed

I'm very interested in the tibetans, as I know they have many, very powerful practices (from the mix of Bรถn and Buddhism, and being a mountaineous place with many centuries of serious practitioners). Also because of the story with the swiss boy he used tibetan practices. Thank you for the link, I will check it out!

You can: 1) go to the past (e.g. go to your past lives, understand your karma, make peace with it, and know how to deal with it in a better and more mature way) 2) go to the future (see what will happen, get advice what to do and what do avoid to do) 3) meet souls of a higher development, which can help and guide you 4) verify or disprove historical accounts (did what they wrote in the Bible really happen? or did they just make it up? Go back and see for your self. You become free, sovereign and independent of dogma, religion, group think etc, you can see for yourself. The Truth) 5) you can heal yourself and others in a more powerful way 6) explore the universe, the humanities on other planets and much more 7) Did you ever want to meet Jesus? Or Buddha? Or Rama? Simply go back and see them in action. 8) Lose all fear of death, the future and the unknown, you become completely experientially grounded in the fact that you are an immortal soul, unborn and uncreated, everlasting, independent of the physical body. Not as a mental thought, theory or philosphy, but as a felt, experiential reality 9) Easily deal with any problems with black magic or dark spirits. Simply go and see what's going on and how to fix it, instead of relying on in-sincere psychics, clairvoyants, monks, swamis, magicians, gurus etc. Once again, you become free, independent and sovereign - autonomous. 10) Meet with your deceased loved ones, overcome grief and see them again 11) Get answers for all the things which has happened in your life, that you have not been able to get over. Now you can go and see why it happened, the karma etc. Then you can make peace with it and finally move on 12) Learn beneficial knowledge which has been lost on Planet Earth ; e.g. higher level astrology, qigong, meditation, cultivation, magic etc 13) After you've yourself learnt and benefitted from astral travel, and all the things you can do, you can also share what you've learnt for the benefit of others (friends, family, people who are suffering), including teaching them how to do it as well. There are just so many possibilities I think it's very alluring and sounds incredibly beneficial.

Thanks for sharing the links! Very interesting, I just watched them through I think Master Wu is one of the most legit teachers out there, that I've been in contact with so far. I feel qi moving in my body with everything I've learnt from him, as does complete newbs when I teach them some of his forms. This is in stark contrast to the forms from others teachers I've learnt and taught to others. You get a work out, you stretch your body, it gives you benefits, it feels good, but you don't feel strong vibration of qi moving (and neither do students if I teach them forms from the few other teachers I've learnt from). I definitely think Master Yuanming Zhang looks and feels 100% legit. I think Lu Zijian looks great I will watch a bit more from him. Many different schools and lineages have many very similar concepts, even the forms and exercises can look quite similar or even have completely identical moves. So, I think it's very possible Master Wu actually did get the similar forms from other sources, and later went to experience Master Yuanming Zhang's style.

Chakras, Petals, Nadis, Mantras, Mudras and TCM meridians
Nuralshamal posted a topic in Hindu Discussion
Dear Dao Bums, What I wanted to share today was my very interesting discovery about the parallels between the TCM and qigong meridian system, and the chakra, nadi and petal system in Yoga and Sri Vidya. The two channels in the agyna chakra: Ksham (เคเฅเคท) is the left side of the forehead, it is the left, outermost bladder meridian in TCM. Ham (เคนเค) is the right side of the forehead, it is the right, outermost bladder meridian in TCM. The bladder branches into 2 channels on each side of the spine, i.e. 4 channels in total. An innermost and an outermost on each side of the spine. The four channels in the muladhara chakra: Sam (เคธเค) is the left, lower kidney meridian (i.e. from the muladhara chakra and down to under the foot) Vam (เคตเค) is the right, lower kidney meridian (i.e. from the muladhara chakra and down) Sham( เคถเค) is the upper part of the right kidney meridian (from muladhara chakra and up through the body, through the lung and finally into the brain) Ssam (เคทเค) is the upper part of the left kidney meridian (from muladhara chakra and up) The six channels in the swadistana chakra: Lam (เคฒเค) is the left, lower part of the spleen meridian (running from svadistana chakra and down to the big toe) Bam (เคฌเค) is the right, lower part of the spleen meridian. Bham (เคญเค) is the right, upper part of the spleen meridian (running from svadistana and up) Mam (เคฎเค) is the innermost bladder channel to the right of the spine, running from swadistana chakra and up alonside the spine Yam (เคฏเค) is the innermost bladder channel to the left of the spine, running from swadistana chakra and up alonside the spine Ram (เคฐเค) is the upper part of the left spleen meridian (from swadistana and up). I can't wait to journey through the rest of the chakras and nadis, and clear the channels even more (nadi shuddhi). I'll keep you posted as I discover more If you'd like to know a bit more about the background, read on: There are mantras for 6 chakras and their individual nadis. There are 2 nadis in the agyna chakra, 4 nadis in the muladhara chakra, 6 in the swadistana, 10 in the manipura, 12 in the anahata, 16 in the vishuddi. That means you need to memorize a total of 50 sanskrit letters and their mantra, which is going to take some time Saying the sound of the sanskrit letter in the "petals" of the chakra, activates the nadi. Saying the sound of the sanskrit letter in the middle of the chakra, activates the chakra. All of this knowledge is from Hinduism, namely the Yoga and Sri Vidya tradition, as taught by Guru Karunamaya. I've written about my experiences with it here: The method is simply "sandwiching" an empowered mantra from your guru in between the sanskrit letter for each channel. This 1) activates the channel, 2) sends energy from your guru mantra into the channel, 3) closes the energy inside the channel. For example: lam aum nama shivaya lam. So far, I've only mastered the agnya, muladhara and swadistana (which I've described above), so the next one I'll work on memorizing and opening is the manipura chakra and its 10 nadis Be blessed by the Divine! May we all enjoy good health, long life, prosperity, happiness, wisdom and peace -

@ronko Yes! I am still practicing And I must say, things are progressing! I can feel the mantras for the muladhara, swadistana, manipura, anahata, vishuddi and agnya chakra starting to work Those are the mantras I've been initiated into so far, and with continous practice, it really works. The daily mantras for all chakras and channels are also extremely powerful, yet it takes some time to fully open all channels. My feeling is that it depends on your karma in each field. The more good karma you have related to a certain chakra and channel, the faster it opens. The more bad karma you have, the longer it takes. As you open them up through the mantras, you will see and relive whatever bad energy is stuck there. Just let it pass through @Creation Thanks for your kind words, I'm glad it's useful I can definitively vouch for DeviPuram and Guru Karunamaya Everything I've learnt, I've felt in my body, my energy, my mind and in my "outside material life" (e.g. money, relationships etc). -

Dear Dao Bums, The Vishuddi chakra! This was definitively a very empowering and suprising journey of discovery to go through Vishuddi chakra aham - เค เค - the left bladder meridian all the way down the back of the leg to the outside of the foot (little toe) aaha เค เค left stomach meridian up to the face am เค เค the main yin channel (ren mai) on the front of the body aam เคเค the right stomach channel up the face im เคเค the right bladder channel down iim เค the right liver meridian into the head um เคเค the right gallbladder channel into the head uum เคเค the right kidney channel into the brain rim เคเค this channel isn't used in qigong, it's the pingala nadi (yang channel criss-crossing the spine, ending in the right nostril) riim เฅ เค - the right side of the sushumna or chong mai (thrusting vessel) alum เคณเฅเค - this is the main yang channel, the du mai up the spine aluum เคณเฅเค the left side of the sushumna or chong mai em เคเค - this channel isn't used in qigong, it's the ida nadi (yin channel criss-crossing the spine, ending in the left nostril) aim เค - left kidney into the brain om เคเค - left gallbladder in to the brain aum เค - left liver How we're alle unique in our cultivation journey We're all different and unique. Our body type, energy type and mind. The first qigong I learnt (xi sui gong) destroyed me and my health, whereas I saw many others getting tremendous benefits. Then I learnt many forms of Emei Zhen Gong. My teacher's personal favorite form is "TuGuNaXing" (breathe in the new, expel the old). A seated style meditation, connecting with the stems and branches (TienGan) through mantra, mudra and visualisation. I think it's pretty good, but it's not what gave me the most benefits. What benefitted me the most so far is the WuLongGong (Five Dragons) of Wudang Gate. Similarly, I've noticed throughout the years, that the different forms of the different lineages benefit people differently. We're all unique! When it comes to opening my individual channels, even after 7 years of dedicated daily practice (experiencing many forms and styles of qigong, including ones specifically designed to bust open all channels) this akshara mala (reciting the sanskrit letters of each chakra and each nadi) is what did it for me. That's why I have shared it here with you. Nothing has opened my channels in an easier, nor more powerful way. Life long health issues have been healed in a few weeks. How can this knowledge of the correspondance between TCM/qigong and the chakra/yoga/nadi system be used? It's extremely specific. If you know that exactly this organ and corresponding channel is closed, and it's "killing you", you can work specifically on that. Simply visualise the corresponding sanskrit letter at the corresponding chakra location and repeat it's correct pronunciation. I can't guarantee it will be as effective for you as it has been for me (just like my xi sui gong teacher's best form destryoed my health, and my new teacher's most favorite form didn't do too much for me). Doubt about the efficacy of the akshara mala method Some of you have mentioned that what I'm reporting is simply imagination or not at all correct or effective. The millenium old yogic tradition of chakras, nadis and mantras is certainly not imagination, it's a time tested practice. If you think the benefits of a time-tested practice is imagination, I urge you to simply experiment yourself instead of dismissing it at face value. Simply pick a chakra and a nadi, and recite and visualise it for 10-25 minutes daily for a few weeks, and you will feel in your own body whether it works for you or not. It could work miracles, it could do something, or it could do nothing for you. But then you will have the right to dismiss it, because you have experimented with it in your own body. Simply dismissing or ridiculing at first glance, because it's different from your own knowledge, is dismissing the entire millenium old yogic tradition about chakras, nadis and mantras. Important point about all spiritual practice Get transmission, protection, guidance and empowerment from an authentic teacher/guru/master. This is the key to all cultivation. This also goes for the akshara mala japa, should you wish to give it a go. Closing prayer May you all be blessed with good health, long life, prosperity, wisdom and peace! -

Dear Dao Bums, Here are my experiences with the anahata chakra, its related nadis and their relation to TCM meridians: tam - เคเค - left pericardium channel down the arm tham - เค เค - left gallbladder channel down through the torso to the left leg kam - เคเค - right gallbladder channel down kham - เค - right pericardium channel down the arm gam - เคเค - right large intestine channel down the right arm gham - เคเค - right lung, down the right arm aam - เคเค - right heart channel, down the right arm chaam เคเค - right small intestine channel, round the back of the shoulder and down the right arm chham เคเค - left small intestine channel jam - เคเค - left heart channel jham - เคเค - left lung channel niyam - เคเค - left large intestine channel I was very shocked to find my heart chakra was very, very blocked. Pretty much all channels except for pericardium were in bad shape. However, the good news are that now I know, and now I can work on them through mantra and visualisation. -

Dear Dao Bums, An update on the manipura chakra It has 10 channels, here are their corresponding TCM/qigong meridians: pam เคชเค - the left, lower part of the liver channel, from manipura, down the leg, the knee and into the big toe (left side of the big toe= pham เคซเค - the left, lower part of the stomach channel, from manipura down the front of the leg to the middle toe daam เคกเค - the right, lower part of the stomach channel, from manipura and down the front of the right leg to the middle toe dhaam เคขเค - the right, lower part of the liver channel, from manipura down the right lag naam เคฃเค - the right, upper part of the liver channel, from manipura, through the liver, the heart, the neck, through the brain to the eye tam เคคเค - the right, upper part of the stomach channel, from manipura, through the stomach and ribcage, into the right jaw tham เคฅเค - the right, gall bladder channel, up through the gallbladder, side of ribcage, scapula, onto the head dam เคฆเค - the left, gall bladder channel dham เคงเค - the left, upper part of the left stomach channel nam เคจเค - the left, upper part of the left liver channel I am very pleasantly surprised by the power of chanting the mantra, while visualising the letter on a yellow petal in the corresponding location. I have suffered from life long sleep problems. Up until 19 years of age, I couldn't fall asleep (in TCM this is usually something with the Heart). After 19 years of age and up until today, I could easily fall asleep, however, I wouldn't "stay asleep" through the night. I would wake several times, turn over, them continue sleeping. This is usually related to the Liver in TCM. I've tried everything under the sun for sound sleep: TCM, qigong, sleeping qigong, maintaining same waking and sleeping times rigidly, avoiding electronics and light before bed, having a warm shower before bed, drinking hot milk with honey, herbs, meditation, amino acids (tryptophane), supplements (melatonin, magnesium) you name it. Everything I've ever read about to improve sleep, I've tried it. The best was herbs (zizyphus sleep from K'an herbs which target the yin and blood of the Heart and Liver), and the amino acid Tryptophane (which is a precursor to the sleep hormone melatonine). However... Last night I had the best and most refreshing sleep!! Yesterday, when I meditated on the manipura chakra petals, I was shocked to find that naam and nam (the right and left upper parts of the liver channels) were completely closed and blocked in the part that went through the heart. These blocked channels are what have been messing my sleep up! And no amount of qigong, sleeping qigong, herbs or meditation had allowed me to open these channels so far (I'm talking about more than 14 years of TCM herbal treatments, 9 years of daily practice of meditation, 7 years of daily practice of qigong, 4 years of sleeping qigong and 3 years of tryptophane treatments). However, one sitting of deep meditation on these two petals busted open these two channels, alleviating me of life-long sleep problems. I am prostrating before the Almighty, as well as the rishis who have maintained this knowledge of the chakras up until our day, for having granted me the cure to a life long sleep problem, which has haunted and disturbed my life beyond belief, and given me tremendous suffering. It's my own karma from past lives, my own doing, however, finally the bad karma was paid off, and the Almighty put me into contact with the Rishis' knowledge, thank you dear Lord May you all be blessed! May there be sufficient grains, food and water for the satisfaction of all living beings. May the whole world enjoy prosperity, happiness and peace. -
Sri Vidya, Yantra, Mantra, Tantra, Mudra, Guru Karunamaya

Dear Dao Bums, Small update: A small update on the Sri Vidya front I've now been practicing daily for about 6 months. I've done the mantras, used some of the small rituals and pujas, and lastly a 41 day ritual to empower my mantra as well as attract stability and trust. I must say... It works! After finishing the 41 day ritual, I immediately started getting several money making opportunities in a way I've never experienced before. People just started contacting me with small money making "gigs", and my normal job stabilized. Additionnally, having completed so many repetitions of the different mantras, I must say, they work! Mantras and opening chakras In the beginning it would take about 50 minutes of mantra repetition of the Ganapati Mantra, then I would feel comfortable warmth in the tailbone / muladhara chakra area, and then with continued repetitions, I felt this warmth circulate up and down my legs as well as my spine in 4 distinct channels (2 down the legs, 2 along the spine). After 6 months of daily japa (mantra repetition), this chakra opening and nadi circulation happens in 1-2 minutes. The time has simply reduced slowly from 50 minutes, to 45, to 40 etc with continued repetitions, and now it happens very quickly. The Bala Tripura Sundari Mantra for the Swadistana chakra has gone through a similar development; it now opens the chakra in the front (genital area), in the middle of the body as well as on the back of the sacral bone, and I feel the energy circulate in 6 channels, some down my leg and some up and down my torso. The next mantra is the Raja Shyamala Mantra for the Heart chakra. It has great and very powerful energy, and it goes straight into the heart. I've not practiced it long enough for the chakra and nadi opening, but I can feel its power and energy. Guru Karunamaya has also given a particular way of opening all chakras and nadis using mantras. I've only seen it demonstrated, but I can't wait to try it out! I could feel energy in each nadi when the Guru recited the mantras and demonstrated how to do it. Imagine having mastered all the mantras for all the chakras and nadis! Then you simply meditate for 10-20 minutes, repeat the mantras for all chakras and nadis, and you will open and circulate all your chakras and channels every single day. Only one Supreme Being, yet many Gods? I like the intellectual explanation for the meanings of the "Gods and Godesses". Being raised strictly monotheistic, I never understood the Hindu pantheon. My current understanding, after studying Sri Vidya, is that each God/Goddess is simply a particular kind of energy. Just like you're only one person, yet you use different parts of your body for different tasks. Your hands can work, your feet can walk, your eyes can see, yet they're all part of one, indivisble whole: you. Similarly, there is only one Supreme Being. All the Gods are simply different types of energies of this one Supreme Being. I look forward to continuing my Sri Vidya journey
