I have no experience with Waidan, but from what I know of it, it walks a fine line between poison and medicine.

Why would Waidan masters impart their full knowledge to an emperor?Ā

Waidan should transmute poison into medicine to accomplish the same things as Neidan. From what my teacher has said, Neidan is safer but still dangerous and dates back just as far if not further than Waidan.

    Ā

The first statement is true. Waidan(外äø¹) is the composition of medicine doneĀ externally. The final product is a big pill given to the emperor for longevity. The emperor has no knowledge of what is in the pills. The emperor hires aĀ Taoist and rewarded him with gold and silver. In return, the emperor gets weaker day by day and the Taoist gets richer.Ā

FYI Waidan(外äø¹) like it saysĀ is external.Ā Ā The idea is to take something external to accomplish what Neidan(內äø¹) would have had.Ā In contrarily, Neidan like it says is internal thatĀ does not involve any external ingredients. Actually, Neidan is a form of Qigong that involves breathing only. Assuming that the internal ingredients of jing(ē²¾), chi(ę°£), and shen(ē„ž) are interacting inside the body to accomplish longevity. The reason the Taoists go from external to internal was that the Waidan caused death more than what was intended to accomplish.Ā

Why is this motive wrong Sir? Expecting a healthy and fulfilling sexual life is a bad motive?

    Please enlighten.

The motive is not wrong. However, one should concentrate on having a healthy body otherĀ than fulfilling other things as a priority.Ā  One should fine-tuneĀ the body by enhancing it to perform to the best of its ability. Pursuing a goal with false information wouldĀ send you farther and fartherĀ away fromĀ it.Ā

The Chinese word comrade has picked up the meaning of homosexuality, probably from overseas.Ā  It has been so widely understood that the General Secretary Xi has instructed to revive the proper address of Comrade amongst Communist party members.

What is the new term for 同åæ—(comrade) that I am not aware of?

Yes, this seems very logical and accurate. I would definitely try it. I hope you don't mind asking one more question.

    Ā

The cardiovascular activities we do like jogging, sprinting and soccer. Do these activities account for breathing exercises?

    Ā

There is no control over breath in these exercises so I don't think that they are. Anyway, your opinion would be insightful.

No,Ā jogging, sprinting, and soccer is anaerobic exercises. It is because, during those exercises, you consume more oxygen than you can provide.Ā It makes your heart pump faster due to the demand for more oxygen. As result,Ā  itĀ puts more strain on the heartĀ muscles.

As opposed to aerobic Qigong, it breathes in more oxygen than the body needs. Your body will never reachĀ the state of hypoxia. That will put the heart at the resting point which will not make it overwork. While the body is consuming some of the oxygen, the rest of itĀ isĀ reserved for backup. For that said, the body will not run out of oxygen and maintain the heartbeat at the resting point to prevent it from overworking.

    äæ”徒 - believers, all kinds

ę•™å¾’ - usually refer to believer of Christianities

道徒 - some sources say refers to believers in cults and superstitions, bad connotation

    佛徒 - Buddhist followers

    äæ”蔆 - mass believers

善äæ” - good believers, how temples' addressing believers

道友 - supposed to be friendlies following the Tao, now mostly mean heroine addicts

同道 - same belief believers, now can mean drug addicts too
    Ā

These terms are widely used with no limitations.Ā Let's make it clear before it misleads everybody.
"ę•™å¾’ - usually refer to believer of Christianities"Ā
It is a general term that applies to believers of all religious cults, not necessarily just applies to Christianities.

"道友 - supposed to be friendlies following the Tao, now mostly mean heroine addicts"
It is a general term forĀ friends inĀ the same religion. It is slang for any kind of addict but not necessarily just for heroin addicts.

"同道 - same belief believers, now can mean drug addicts too"
The former is true. The latter is not necessarily only apply to drug addicts. It may apply to people who are sharing the same interests.

I am not aware about Taiji but I would definitely try yoga. It's also very positive for the body.

Are these herbs useless without practising yoga or taiji?

If you want a faster result, you can practice yoga and pay more attention to deep breathing. No matter what kind of practice that you do, breathing is very important for self-healing. Breathing as much oxygen as possible into your body is the key to good health. It is because whatever you take orally, requires oxygen to decompose the glucose to give you the energy for theĀ internal organs to function.

    Ā

Your body will take care of the part that demands the most attention. In your case, it would definitely helpĀ to speed up the recovery of the reproductive system.

The majority of difficult kanji are keisei moji, which means you can often make a reasonable guess once you've understood the general pattern.

Believe it or not. Kanji (ę¼¢å—) is borrowedĀ from Chinese characters. Sometimes, the meanings were twistedĀ a little by the Japanese. Like their names, the Chinese have no idea what they meant. However, we should keep anĀ open mind and learn from each other.

    Yes.Ā

But ā€˜caprinaeā€™Ā is not ā€˜deerā€™ (contrary to what your dictionary says).

    Ā

    Ā
ItĀ seemsĀ to me that 'Caprinae'Ā is a technical term for theĀ subdivision of the dear class. The Chinese term forĀ 'Caprinae' is "ē¾Šäŗžē§‘". I think the first character 'ē¾Š' in the term caused confusion to a non-native speaker.

@MangoĀ ThisĀ type of dictionary, I always switch language a few times. If the translationĀ does not stay the same (as in your ā€˜deerā€™ case), it indicates a mistake in the database.

    Ā

As a native speaker, I don't quite follow what you are telling me. It has known thatĀ é¹æ isĀ a deer all my life. Do I need a third party to tell us what it is?

I have been doing masturbation for many years. I am going to get married soon and my erections are weak and premature ejaculation is also there. Can you suggest some herbs or remedial measures I can take to avoid the embarrassment?

FYI. None of the herbs will work for you due to the physical internal damage from long-time masturbation. Because it is internal, the best cure is self-healing by practicing Qigong or Taiji diligently. Taiji is the best because itĀ involves movementĀ coordinated with deep breathing. Breathing is very important for self-healing. DoĀ Taiji a few times a day, you will see resultsĀ in a few months. Continuing to do it daily will makeĀ you a stronger and better person than before. I had gone through all these experiences once before. Now I am a very healthy person and teach Taiji in a Senior Service Center. After the class, someĀ told me that they have become a better person.

Spiritual people have much better body mind connections and they have deeper understanding of bodily functions.

    Ā

Does anybody have anything solid in this regards? Are herbs really effective to treat diseases? Please share your thoughts.

Ā IMO I don't think that spiritual people have a deeper understanding of bodily functions. Rather they are more concerned with peace of mind.

Regarding herbs, they are effective to treat diseases.Ā  All theĀ herbs were dried under the sun or in an oven. There are special recipes for herbs for different ailments. It was up to the herbalist to determine the combination of herbs for an ailment. The herbs were boiled in water for some time and then orally taken by the patient. That is eastern medicine. However, western medicine does use herbsĀ
compressed into a pill. I know in Germany, the medicine manufacturers bought lots of herbs from China to make medical pills.

FYI My wife has a lot of ailments. Just recently, her body produced lots of body heat that she could bear it for a second. Her family physician ordered all kinds of labĀ tests but could not find out the cause.Ā Ā Luckily,Ā Ā someone introduced aĀ doctor who practicesĀ eastern and western medicine plus acupuncture. She visited the doctor's office for several weeks for acupuncture treatmentĀ and tookĀ herbal pills, and finally, her ailment was cured.Ā

So, what is your take on the goat / sheep interchange in Chinese astrology ?Ā Ā Ā  Something to do with north and southĀ  culture / languages ?

It hasĀ nothing to do with culture orĀ language. It is only a matter of understanding the culture and language.

  16. 10 minutes ago, Nungali said:

Yeah .Ā Ā  ButĀ  I was toldĀ  ( by an 'educated ' Daobum )Ā  the reason a goat and sheep is interchangeable in Chinese astrology is that in Chinese languageĀ  theyĀ  use the same term for goat and sheep .

    Ā

What probably is meant is thatĀ Ā  ē¾Š is a name forĀ  'Caprinae'Ā Ā Ā  ;)Ā

You were told by a Daobum, not so educated, alright!
I know the problem lies here and knew it was coming.Ā

FYI In Chinese, there is a given name for each animal but unisex, unlike in English. A 'Caprinae' isĀ é¹æ(deer) notĀ ē¾Š.
All the animals are classified byĀ group name. In order to distinguish each kind by a modifier in front of the character.

    In the case ofĀ ē¾Š:
    å±±ē¾Š: goat
    ē¶æē¾Š: sheep
    ē¾šē¾Š: antelope

    馬: horse
    č’™å¤é¦¬: Monogolian horse
    č‹±åœ‹é¦¬: English horse
    ē¾Žåœ‹é¦¬: Americal horse
    č„æēē‰™é¦¬: Spanish horse

In China, a goat is not a sheep.
    A goat is a å±±ē¾Š(mountain goat).
    A sheep is a ē¶æē¾Š.

Oh wait .... does this TaoistĀ  shrine have internetĀ  ?Ā

The Chinese community is very up today. Of course, there is internet in the shrines and temples. They are using it as their primary source of income.
