  1. Intention

Intent is everything. You live through intent, breathe through intent, do everything through intent. But most importantly, you create through intent. It is that which directs energy, and it is that which connects us all. Desire and intent are in this sense equal. And identity and intent both arise from one another. Really, all you are is your intent! All creation originates, cycles, and is liberated from this. So yes, intent is pretty essential in my opinion.
  2. Zhan Zhuang Standing information

Sitting builds, standing and exercises activate? And the qi is only stored once activated? Hrm....interesting...
  3. What are your goals for your practice in this lifetime?

I think you figure these things out as you go along. Hopefully, I'm going in the right direction. Wherever that may be. Perfection? Erh, maybe. I like gih's list though. . .
  4. Andrew Lum/Patrick Moon contact

This is getting silly. . I don't think what anyone says to Sifu Hata will matter anymore. I really hope this gets sorted out in person. The only benefit this thread would have is people recognizing that martial abilities have nothing to do with wisdom. I don't doubt Sifu Hata can take on 20 MMA fighters, do the Mao Shan "challenge," open his own dojo, whatever. That's not what Kunlun was taught for. Max didn't teach Mao Shan spirit fighting. On a side note, I went to see Thich Nhat Hanh today. That man wouldn't have to lift a finger to subdue 20 fighters. .
  5. Carl Jung's Secret Book To Be Published

I will definitely be seeing it in person at the Rubin museum. I know ya'll are jealous! .
  6. Andrew Lum/Patrick Moon contact

I am not concerned with Max being a Mao Shan lineage holder or not. He never claimed to be so. I am concerned with these accusations of him practicing "quakery" to obtain money, fame, and other advantages. You cannot make these claims and declare "I am in no way putting down the Kunlun community." They, after all, practice these "quakeries" you speak of. This is irrelevant to the point at hand. Again this is irrelevant. Max did not teach as a master of Mao Shan and less as a martial artist. Sifu, these are false accusations that damage your own credibility. But as a Sifu of Mao Shan lineage, I would like to know from you whether the techniques Max has called Mao Shan truly belong to the school.
  7. Andrew Lum/Patrick Moon contact

So Max does not get Red Phoenix from Mao Shan nor has he trained "like a son" under Andrew Lum. . Sifu, please be straight forward with your intentions. You are basically calling Max a liar. Giving a bit of hint at "some" event that happened awhile back claiming it is the "real" Max and what not. But then you say you hope the Kunlun community well because they are good and friendly people. Max is more or less the one who created the Kunlun community, and people have put their trust on the methods he has given. I am sure you are aware of this. You have also openly stated your doubts regarding the "light body" which is one of the things accepted by Kunlun practitioners. Furthermore, why do you assume that people are intimidated by Sifu Lum of Sijo Moon? All this is very puzzling.
  8. Kunlun Book

    Kunlun is awesome. .
  9. RE: The Buddha Bums

    1. We have a spirit, but it exists through our intent/creative consciousness dependently rising from other intent/creative consciousnesses. The world is co-created and even that co-creation creates you. 2. Our spirit chooses, but, as in it tries its best to manifest the best way it knows how to. Like trying to make the best painting you know from the skills you have. 3. The universe is intelligent and has a consciousness of its own, just as mother earth does. There is purpose in realizing our potential as an infinitely loving being! .
  10. compassion

True compassion should arise effortlessly as a state of being. Actively cultivating it is great, but it has its limits. Hence Lao Tzu says that virtue is created when the true Virtue of the Tao is lost. When I have enough positive and blissful energy from meditation, I notice myself being better to people than before. And this not only enhances that energy, but seems to be its natural course to expand and share. 2 cents! .
  11. Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Zhuge Liang is really the one who makes the Romance of the Three Kingdoms more than a tale of bunch of people with big swords. I believe he was a Taoist. There is a story of him doing weather magic at the famous battle on Red Cliff.
  12. Is a buddha basically god?

Nothing is gained or lost in the manifestation of cause and effects. Your habits and ego will go somewhere too. No one knows precisely how Nature behaves, so saying that nothing is beyond Nature doesn't really say much. We can only speculate. So yes, Buddha, Jesus, or whoever is not beyond Nature, but we don't know to the full extent the functions of Nature as a whole. Er, unless you can create nature like they say for someone someones . "We" die. And who are "we"? Who am "I"? Your brain? Your hormones? Your body? Are these you or are these your"s"? Where is the origin of "you" that you act from? Find "you" and you will find it is as beguiling as the mysterious cavity of the Tao. .
  13. Must See: The Story Of Stuff

I don't think she's trying to make us look bad, just that we should become more aware. Consumers are sort of victims here too. The video is simple because, well, it is a linear model. . The key part about all this is that it's not as much about the environment as the people. The whole model is harmful to us, physically and psychologically.
  14. Why Taoism is different

Jing = humility/preserving precepts. I think frugality fits more into this because there's all the focus on "preserving" jing. (Or, eh, semen ). Qi = meditative cultivation/freeing of past habits Shen = freedom through wisdom and compassion So I see Jing as a measure to keep that which is good, Qi as developing that good for all its potentials, and Shen to be a finalization of that good through wisdom.
  15. Ego Inflation - aka Secret Narcissism

This is very unrelated, but is there a specific reason for both teachers looking quite...plump. I don't mean at all to be disrespectful. I know qi gong masters also develop big bellies. There is an accepted notion of masters having big "Buddha" bellies showing their great compassion. Just thoughts. .
  16. Ego Inflation - aka Secret Narcissism

Yes, ego inflation is a problem in all these spiritual practices that promise enlightenment. You are bound to develop a giant ego. How can you not? You can shoot electricity into people! You can feel blissful at any moment! You have awesome sexual abilities! You can fly for gods sakes! . So really the only way to avoid this is to realize that the joy in cultivation does NOT come from these self achievements, but the way of developing means to share and give that joy to others. Breaking the blockages within you cannot be differentiated from setting others free. And so all efforts, whether you eat, sleep, shit, meditated must be oriented towards this virtuous intent. So there is a "turning about" of your intent from being directed towards "I" to "all." . And really, 10 enlightened beings is always better than 1. .
  17. "In Movement there is stillness"?

You don't understand the meaning of the word movement. Movement is pulling the strings; the word movement is another word for control. Since you can cause movement by vigorous action, how could you not be able to cause stillness by pure quietude? From Secret of Golden Flower trans. by Cleary. .
  18. David Verdesi

Ramus, I agree with you. But your reply doesn't address Verdesi directly.
  19. David Verdesi

Neigong abilities seem more and more to have nothing to do with genuine wisdom.
  20. "Real" Happiness

. Maybe you ought to investigate it further. I remember you wrote something while back about wanting to realize enlightenment. I don't see much sincerity or urgency here as accordingly. .
  21. "Real" Happiness

I'm afraid your point really doesn't say much. . Trace that happiness and you will find a cause that is of habitual patterning. That is not true un-abiding happiness. And so your happiness will wax and wane according to the conditions that arise and settle. And you'll realize that you have never actually been truly "happy" in the first place: always bounded by the ego and its conditioning. Of course this is all just my opinion. Deeper points should be made when investigating such a dubious term. .
  22. MU! There is a story of how Ramana Maharshi helped his cow attain liberation. .
  23. You are all delusional!

It's not a secrecy. It's safety. For example, when Matak Chia came out with numerous books on cultivating sexual energy, some took a lop sided approach and damaged their bodies. On the other hand, others benefited tremendously from utilizing the sexual energy. You want an actual proof from the scientific community to acknowledge "qi"? It will take many many years before that comes to fruition especially in the West (there is a tendency to ignore the Chinese studies). Moreover, "qi" and its phenomena are not even agreed upon by different practitioners and traditions. To acknowledge "qi" as defined by TCM would be to engage in its entire literature and philosophy and see how it fits into the model of Western science. This process is being continued by the Chinese (it it still very new), but for it to be studied, acknowledged, tested, written in textbooks and used by the West as an "official science" will take years. You must also understand that there are countless things about the body and nature that Western science lacks knowledge of. For example, I was quite shocked to find out a few months back that scientists discovered the significant function of the spleen. Imagine that! We can send a satellite to space, but not know what the spleen does for the body! If you want to wait until all these studies have been done and approved to genuinely practicing qi gong, go ahead. The mistake many new practitioners make is they approach with a very doubtful state if mind. This is a crucial detriment to practice when the mind is the most important aspect of any energetic practice. Another mistake they make is assuming quick and fast results. You must understand that cultivation alters you entire conception of the world. It changes your thought process and challenges your entire belief systems. This doesn't happen overnight. Worse, people expect to remain as they are and suddenly be able to shoot "qi" balls out of their hands! This "spectator" approach of "oh, I'll just try and see" is doomed to fail. I suggest you begin cultivating under a practice that gives you very specific results and manifestations. Usually this requires finding a good teacher, but it can be done from books as well. For example, when you meditate you might notice your dan tien vibrating. Now you can look this up and see that this is a good sign of progress and have more certainty in your practice. Continue down this road and you will be amazed at how much the body and mind can be transformed. It is very joyful to cultivate. The bliss is as much physical (not a simple "oh I feel good," but more like WHAT THE.....what is happening!) as mental. And really, it is the mentality that is of utmost importance. Look into accounts of qi gong, kundalini, chakras, etc. and believe in the experiences of the many genuine practitioners. And do it! . The Path to extinguishing such doubts is a path onto itself. Good luck! .
  24. You are all delusional!

Ah thank you! Ah, so the whole world seeks the master out and he can just tell them to go away! . Yes they are not lying around everywhere for all to use for the reason I just wrote above. I do not want to specifically get into the science aspect, it is really a tedious debate. You can do your own research into it. You will be very surprised as some of the things you find. But your conception of "qi" seems to be off in general. It is usually considered a bio-electric energy, life force, or just the energy that makes your body function (I think some people even consider it ATP). The ancients just called it qi because they could manipulate and use their body's energies to transform it. Again all these explanations are debated because the use of this energy is what is emphasized in cultivation. HAHAHHAHAHAHA. That is not what I meant at all. But go see John Chang if you want. I haven't told you any crazy stories. . Don't know what you're talking about. Find out what for yourself? That you can blast qi balls against machine guns? Lol. What did you practice? Tai Chi? Of course some of it is body function. I have no idea what you expected out of this and so I asked your intentions. Benefited in what way? What were you trying to improve? Your mind was filled with doubt when doing practices of the mind itself. And so you quit meditating. So you sat there going "ok, I will relax." And suddenly this thought arose "why the hell am I meditating?" And follow that question up with "why the hell do I do anything" And if you say happiness, ask "what makes me happy and is my happiness genuine?" And if you don't know, go read some books. Then come back and meditate. Maybe you can blast qi balls. . .
