Surely one on one in person teaching with a grandmaster who can correct your mistakes on the spot and give you transmission is as good as it gets

The easiest way to find the answer to this question is to look at the people on this site who claim to have achieved many things without having a teacher and only learning from books. Ironically they also like to teach others
