I started meditating to relax and I ended up sobbing with rage - am I stange?

Very interesting that you mentioned this. My recent exercise regime has been rock climbing/bouldering. I find it to be much better for me than going to the gym. I’m building muscle much faster, and it’s more fun than doing the same sets in the gym. -

Don’t bother with what he posts, most of it is nonsense. -

Mate if it was as easy as walking outside barefoot, everyone would be an enlightened immortal right now. Ok back on topic, steaming stingray is also nice if you can’t handle spicy marinades. Does anyone know where I can get any in London? I haven’t had any in years. -

Very interesting, finally the one thing on Daobums that we all seem to agree on! -

Your lower dantien becomes deactivated after puberty so that could be said to be a link to childhood. I find that cultivation and meditation, even doing yoga will unlock long forgotten memories and release them from your body. -

If you have Caucasian tastebuds then yes. But for Asians it tastes like stingray cooked in sambal. -

You need to make sambal stingray. It’s the best way to cook it! Never cut up one myself, always just bought from the fishmonger or supermarket. I haven’t had any in years though, will def have again when I back to visit Asia. -

The beauty of Islam used to be that it would merge with local customs. Unfortunately since the 20th century with the Salafis and other modernist movements there is a lot of rejection of pre-Islamic traditions and also an Arabisation of everything. I much prefer the Sufi way of doing things.

He’s not wrong though. On this forum there is too much discussion, not enough practicing. If people practiced as much as they argue on here, maybe things will make more sense. When someone here tries to talk about something higher than entry level, most often than not they are ridiculed instead of listened to with an open mind. Learn how to use the iPhone, not discuss hammers.

Very interesting. Maybe I will check them out. I’ve been living in Europe for the last 3 years but there is still a big Sufi tradition in Indonesia. In London I met with Sheikh Muhammad who is relatively well known on here. There are probably many more like him all around Indonesia. In the last decade when I went to visit there I went to a few Sufi tombs and sites which are still well maintained and full of pilgrims. I’ll be going again this summer and will try to visit the tombs again. Your shoes will be fine in Indonesia when you stand on grass, unless you are near rice paddies or mangrove areas. I would say the ground is usually quite dry.

I keep on encountering books about Subud and recently saw a podcast where Dr. Lawrence Blair (the man who made the Ring of Fire documentary) was saying that he started off learning Subud, which was why he went to Indonesia to do research and eventually live there. Is anyone on here a member of Subud or know anything about it? From what I’ve found out their latihan practice is like a form of spontaneous qigong. There are some places near me that practice it but I want to find out more information before checking it out.

Yes there is a three month waiting period before they let you do your first latihan with the group, supposedly so you can do your research and really decide whether you want to commit to it or not. Sounds quite sensible.

Yes. Find a teacher.

Hi @zen-bear, I had an interesting moment during Moonbeam today. After hearing about many practitioners “stopping the world” during Moonbeam I think it finally happened to me. It lasted for just a second or two, all sound stopped (including wind and any ringing in my head) and then suddenly came back. It happened during the stage where I move my arms from right to left towards the end of Moonbeam. Is this the “stopping the world” that you were talking about? Regards, Jonathon

There you go. You should be more open minded to more weird and unexplainable things if that happened to you.

I would like to expand on this and say you not only shouldn’t read too much books when beginning cultivation, but not read up too much theory either. It doesn’t matter what happens later on in the path, learn the first step first. A lot of things won’t make any sense when you read them before experiencing anything, and sometimes you will try to force things if you read about them first. Practice, practice, practice, every day. That’s all you need to do.
