Not true. Zen Master D.T. Suzuki stated several times in his writings that he believed the 13th century Catholic Dominican monk named Meister Eckhart was a fully "enlightened" man, in the "Zen" sense of the word. There were several like him, in both the West and the East. Check out the 6th century mystical writings of Dionysius the Areopagite. I believe the main ones are freely available online for your perusal. He was Eckhart's principal source of inspiration, among human teachers. Link to: The Areopagite's Mystical Theology. Hi there freeform, Perhaps there is a shortcut, afterall, to achieving "a fully realized Shen". I am referring to Matrix Energetics. It is a relatively new "healing" technique applied mainly to physical conditions; but with an equal potential, I feel, for achieving complete realization in Taoist terms. Visit the ME Website and check out all their free video clips, and pay special attention to the "time travel" technique. Then try to imagine applying that same "tt" technique to achieving complete realization of the human shen. Peace to all you Taobums ~ Yen Hui

This is just a thought, but perhaps the English title for this document might elicit a slightly better response.

Thanks, Harry, I will give that a try. ~ Yen

Thanks freeform. Those pendulums look awesome too, but the price seems kind of steep to me, for something that may not function any better than something only half their price. But I must admit I'm kind of tempted, but probably won't try them out 'til I get some experience with a few of the cheaper entry level models.

Thanks. I registered there right after I posted this enquiry about TBM. I have one post there already, to which no one has yet replied, but, in all fairness, I did not ask them the same question. At that Forum, I asked if anyone new if there was a satellite M.E. study/practice group somewhere in general Toronto area. No replies so far. Doctors have told my wife's friend (the mother of 2 young children, and who is'nt yet 40 yrs old,) that she has some form of brain cancer. It went into remission for a few years, but has now reappeared, they say. I'm trying to help her, somehow. Yen

Have you read these two yet? They are nice compliments to Matrix Energetics, imo (N.B. Click on the links for the description(s) and reviews for each):- 2 - Soul Mind Body Medicine: A Complete Healing System for Optimum Health 3 - Instant Healing: Mastering the Way of the Hawaiian Shaman

Hey, Matt, thanks! That pendulum's cool! It has a strong attraction. I'm not sure where to get them around here, in town, but there has to be some place, I'm sure. Among the one's I've checked out online, though, I would rate your's among the better of them. I'll pm you for the retailer's details, i.e. name and number, etc. Yen

Dr. Bartlett utilizes Dr. Victor Frank's TBM (Total Body Modification) Technique. I'd like to learn more about TBM, especially in regard to the treatment of brain cancer. Would anyone here know of any place online that gives some detailed instructions or pointers on that particular application of TBM? Thanks.

Just curious, but what exactly do you imagine the Yarrow Stalks and coins are doing? The Hexagram they form is a reading of the energies at work in present time. While the term "reading" works, the term "manifests" is perhaps a slightly better one, imo. Again, is this not also true of I Ching divination? When one consults the Changes, both will and intellect must be properly centered, and the emotions both calm and harmonious; so as to concentrate and focus one's intent, and maximize receptivity.

hi there wenwu ~ Hey, you know, it's a funny thing, but I was just thinking to myself a couple days ago that it was a little odd no one had commented yet on Master Duan's skill. Good for you, dude! Man, I'm totally impressed with him, and would love to train with him myself! Only thing, though, is I'm not willing to travel to China for it, 'cause as far as I can tell, he never leaves China to teach abroad. But if you don't mind DVD's, he has a few of them which can be obtained at Master Duan Bao Hua DVD's. May the spirit of the Tao guide your practice always! ~ Yen

Hi there Matt !! Sorry about the late reply, but my Taobum e-mail notices go to an addy which I only visit a couple times a month; so I lost track of this thread. The book recommendation is appreciated; I'll check it out and the link too. Btw, where did you get your new pendulum? Is there a website for it? I'd like to take a look. Happy dowsing, bro'! Hi there mYTHmAKER ~ You make an interesting observation there, for sure, but I'll have to look into it some more. I have noticed similar claims made online, in a few places, but I also know that some of the world's top dowsers use metal pendulums; like Raymon Grace, for example, who uses a real bullet on the end of a chain. And the Ta Chuan (Great Treatise) on the I Ching recommends the use of Yarrow Stalks for divination but the ancients also used metal pennies with great success. The same principle should apply to dowsing, I'm inclined to think, but I will try both types of pendulums. Is there a website with the kind of pendulum you've described? With regard to Feng Shui, I must admit I have not paid much attention to that art, but Taomeow's descriptions of it are compelling, to say the least, and are attracting me to it. I'm beginning to recognize the great practical value of it. I know the above Brown video clip was a bit of a tangent, from the topic of dowsing, but since we were sort of indirectly discussing Tai Chi too, I thought I'd just throw it into the mix as well. Anyway, what I meant was do you think he's projecting chi there, or merely using the power of hypnosis and illusion? Personally, I don't think the student is a plant, faking the reactions, since it was the kung-fu Master who selected him for the demo; but, I admit, it's a difficult call, for sure.

Best Free Books on Meditation on the Internet
Yen Hui replied to thelerner's topic in General Discussion
While none of the following online recommendations actually qualify as meditation manuals, strictly speaking, (except the last one, perhaps, on the Golden Flower, which is actually two-links-in-one,) they are, nontheless, relevant canonical sources, a few of which are just a paragraph or two long. My original thought was to only post numbers 4 and 15, but then thought afterward to include the other links which are of a related interest. Technically they don't belong in this thread, but they are not totally foreign to it either. These are texts that merit deep and prolonged contemplation from within the context of the life and practice of meditation itself :- CANONICAL SOURCES:- 01 - Huainan Tzu's History of the Great Tao 02 - Lieh Tzu's Account of the Yellow Emperor 03 - The Yellow Emperor's Clue to the Unseen 04 - Kuan Tzu's Tradition on Inward Cultivation 05 - Deeper Implications of the Book of Changes 06 - On the Yarrow Stalks and Hexagram Lines 07 - On the Use of the Book of Changes 08 - Hexagram 02 - On the Receptive 09 - Hexagram 52 - On Keeping Still 10 - Lieh Tzu's Account of Confucius 11 - Chuang Tzu on Mental Fasting 12 - On Universal Understanding 13 - On the Imprint of the Heart 14 - On Respiration of the Embryo 15 - On the Secret of the Golden Flower -
Some hilarious stuff there, though I find it just a little hard to believe Su-fei is'nt gettin' any romance. She's quite obviously the kind'a gal that just grabs the bull by the horn! LOL

Master Hua Ching Ni on ~ THE TAOIST ATTITUTDE TOWARD SEX "The topic of sex is something that comes up for all spiritual teachings. This is because sexual energy is the foundation of spiritual growth. Some teachers abuse it. It is best that a teaching does not have a stiff attitude toward sex, but discipline is important. Anyone engaging in spiritual learning must not have a loose attitude toward sex. If one has a suitable sexual expression, it is important to know the right way to do it, and what is beneficial and correct for oneself and one's partner. This is the correct sexual attitude at the stage of an achieved spiritual person." ( Taoist Master Hua Ching Ni, in Entering the Tao, p. 101) Agree or disagree, I want to hear it. One condition, though: you need to be able to back it up, preferrably with canonical teachings. Not really interested in "smart-ass" remarks, non-Taoist viewpoints, etc. etc. If you think your viewpoint or practice is basically Taoist, please offer a clear and convincing explanation why. If you feel it's true that some teachers "abuse" sexual energy, I would like to know how so and why the abuse? I would like to clarify what is the correct Taoist attitude toward sex. Thanks for your consideration!

Well, all Aikido students must admit ki like that developes at the highest level of achievement, or else be guilty by default of implying their own founder, , was a pretender who duped the masses. Even if you are'nt prepared to admit ki projection on that level, yet the Aikido student must admit the reality of ki, and its ability to be highly developed. If you admit that, then I cannot see how it's possible to deny the superior ki power of a true Grandmaster, beyond that of a lower ranking karate Black-Belt holder. Even with advanced age against the Aikido Grandmaster, I think he should have stood up far better in a challenge match like that.
-
While I understand what you're saying, I'm of the opinion the case with Kiai Master Ryukerin is not that "cut and dry," as the saying goes. There's much more to it than meets the eye, I feel. Upon doing a quick online search, I came up with the juicy "tid-bit" below, regarding his 'official' MAA win/loss stats (follow the live link on the first line of it):- "The Aikido Master, Kiai Master Ryukerin has a 200-0 wins MMA/Vale Tudo, and that he bets 5 grand he can beat any MMA fighter. The beginning of this video has them signing the contracts. The opponent (Youger Guy) is a Karate Black Belt, and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt." The dude was literally undefeated in 200 'official' fights. Now, look at that clip again, that you posted. Does the way he conducted himself in that match look like the skill of an "undefeated" Grandmaster with 200 'official' wins under his belt? The way it appears to me, it looks like he broke all the rules; so either he was drugged, unknowingly, before the match, or he intentionally threw the match, for whatever reasons. No Grandmaster with his undefeated track record and ki power goes down that easy. No way in hell! But that's just my opinion, fwiw. ~ Yen

Those are some great applications, Spectrum. Thanks! I have'nt tried them yet, but will soon. I'm actually just starting to take a real in-depth look into dowsing, while working on the basic techniques. I am very focused on the wholistic healing applications. At any rate, I just came upon an interesting video clip of someone I've never heard about before, until now. Take a look, when you have a few minutes, and tell me how you think it's done: Derren Brown's Kung Fu Punch @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQdJf-rTVFo Enjoy ! Yen
