This is very basic/fundamental esoteric knowledge. There are dozens of worlds beyond the one you know. People learn this in authentic schools.
@kakapo never attended a school nor had a qualified teacher, which is why he reacts that way when any esoteric term, such as astral travel, is mentioned. This was just a simple example. It’s not about the spit; it’s about how people create problems for themselves.
You will always be able to find some ignorant people fighting windmills or imaginary stuff, or hitting their head into the wall repeatedly.
Instead of dealing with real problems and advancing, they would be stuck in a loop.
There is a significant difference or gap between imaginary concepts and the natural laws of the universe.
When two objects collide, the weaker one gets damaged. This is also why, when people attack someone who is spiritually accomplished, they end up broken, with holes in their energy field, and accumulate massive negative karma for years to come.
(These are the consequences of their actions.)
It is very hard, if not impossible, to advance in cultivation and make spiritual progress if there are issues with mental health, the energy field, or physical health.
Principles of ethical conduct are usually taught as part of the schooling process. For example, when you evolve your mental fields, your thoughts will start to affect reality, and you will have to bear responsibility for them as much as for your actions.

Please don't assume. You know what happens when you assume. I am very grateful to my school and teachers.

In your analogy about rebirth, you still have the physical person going from one life to the next. If a person dies there is no physical body. When a baby is born, there are no memories of a previous life (for the majority of people). There does not seem to be any link between lives. When talking about Buddha and the idea of rebirth, if there is no self or soul then what goes from one life to the next in order to use the word rebirth?
From one birth to the next, identity does not seem to move forward. There does not seem to be memories of previous lifetimes. But, Karma seems to be there to apply their accountability for past actions and intent. What if anything follows from one lifetime to the next?
In some records about the Buddha, it is said that he spoke more about energy moving from one birth to the next birth. Maybe it could be Karmic energy? Since those who are supposedly liberated do not need to go thru rebirth, maybe they do not have any more Karmic energy? So, no Karmic energy means they are not subject to rebirth?? Hmm, maybe thinking about this stuff does not provide a path to liberation and only causes more entanglement with life, Karma?? It is strange the stuff that goes thru one's mind while sitting in quiet silence.
The observer continues from one lifetime to the next, the ego, the identity, the memory was the subject of observation. Those are left behind and a new round of observation begins, new memories are formed, a new ego and identity is established. This is the case for most people. Some groups of people viewed this as a problem, and some practices and lineages were created to address this perceived problem.
Also please be careful with who's advice you listen to in this thread.
I see you interacting with a person here who thinks they can shoot eye lasers, fly faster than the speed of light, give themselves brain power injections, open portals to other universes, kill ancient Naga demons, and has a harem of anime elf girls.
No I am actually serious, they claimed this publicly here on the forum.
Please realize that some people here are either role playing or delusional or some combination thereof, and please be careful of who's opinion's you listen to.

One of the basic teachings of Buddha is the concept of no self. If there is no self then how does rebirth work? If there is no soul to be reborn into another life then what does go on? Karma??
What is the important lesson to be learned by going thru all the births, deaths and rebirths? Does a true realization of no self grant freedom from suffering, a liberation from rebirth? How does the realized mental state of consciousness allow for that?
Please note: Due to reactions I have received recently, I have to say that I am not looking for a fight. Not trying to insult anyone. Just true curiosity. Do not take offense for my words. If you have an opinion then please respond.
Imagine that a man from the USA was traveling to France.
He was mugged and they stole his ID and Passport, and pushed him off a bridge.
He fell a great distance and hit his head, resulting in a traumatic brain injury.
He was in a coma for many years, and when he awoke, he could not remember anything or even speak.
He had to learn the language (French), and learn everything again as a child would.
Years later he has no memory of having lived in the USA, and only knows of his new life in France.
There is no self in the sense that ego, identity, and memory do not usually survive between lifetimes (unless specific criteria are met)

I've noticed several people taking advice to heart from a guy who thinks he can shoot eye lasers, fly faster than the speed of light, give himself brain power injections, open portals to other universes, kill ancient Naga demons, and has a harem of anime elf girls.
It's painful for me to watch as others really take time to consider and digest his advice on how to cultivate properly.

When you get to a certain level of internal development, you will be able to see the reality for itself, free of delusions and mass psychosis.
Think of when the water level in a bar rises, and it pushes you out of a "starting" zone. Once truly awakened, it becomes impossible to go back and live a "normal" mundane existence.
Until then, it is all a wild guessing and straw-picking game with about zero chance of any meaningful success.
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't you the same guy who thinks he can shoot eye lasers, fly faster than the speed of light, give himself brain power injections, open portals to other universes, kill ancient Naga demons, and has a harem of anime elf girls?
Or is that another person with a similar name?

QuoteNeirong
I have been practicing magic and internal arts for multiple incarnations. As a result of this dedicated practice, I could carry the "self" over through life and death. Recovering my true self at a young age allows me to continue the path, which is what I have done. At the age of six, I would spend hours meditating in deep trance states and recovering things from my past. There were no external teachers, no books, and internet access to learn esoteric practices back then.
As I grew older, at around 11, I started visiting paid offline seminars on Fast Reading, Meditation and Sixth Sense. I wanted to get back and recover my core abilities. At 15, I enrolled in full-time training at Internal Arts School, where I trained mostly in Qi Gong. Soon, I reached the limits of what it could offer and went on a search for more profound teaching. At 17, I passed an interview at the school of magic. I have been training intensively every day for many years, climbing through the ranks and obtaining practical abilities (called siddhis). My abilities have been examined and verified in reality. Getting top grades in university while spending 30 mins instead of 100 hours required showed apparent benefits of cultivation and magic.
After five years of training, I have started working with students, grading assignments, and participating in research projects. I got access to Closed Door retreats, where all "students" were advanced Adepts with abilities and 10-15+ years of experience in cultivation and magic.
It was always interesting for me to find like-minded individuals with common goals in life. But only some had the dedication and capability to keep in the circle. I have organized multiple training projects and groups of skilled adepts. We would work together on specific goals and tasks. Those groups were rapidly shrinking; that is how I found Aeordimm. Many people could not handle our magic circle's peer pressure and intensity. The weaker members were falling out each month, and only us 2 keeping the intense daily work going. Many research projects later, I have been to another closed retreat.
Eventually, we realized that we had found a more profound spiritual path in magic unseen by peers and advanced practitioners. The research conducted over a decade has given fruits. I quit the school, where I could have been a senior teacher, enjoyed a decent income and status, and embarked on a journey deeper into the Ancient Arts.
I have a friend who went to their discord and asked if he dedicated 30 years of his life to their teachings what he could expect to gain, and all they could say was enhanced visualization ability.
I mean at $120.00 per month that sounds like a good deal to me!
Anywho thank you for the advice.

Then there are those teachings that even if you had access to, they conceal their true meaning unless it is shown to you directly.
Some ideas:
1.
I have seen instructions of the system I study, edited and then posted online.
People removed the most important parts.
People removed the most important precautions you must take.
People added new things which are not compatible.
People market this as the real deal, and post it online everywhere.
People then get hurt.
People blame the system I study as the cause of their ailments.
The problem becomes people who don't understand and want to blend together everything they have learned into something new, and then re transmit the knowledge to others without understanding what they are teaching.
It is necessary to screen people to make sure you don't end up sharing information with someone who is silly like this, as people will be hurt as a result of doing so.
2.
All abilities are double edged swords that can be wielded for both good and evil.
Imagine that any person could go to the grocery store and get the ingredients to make a bomb 1 billion times more powerful than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
If you don't screen the character of the people you are transmitting that information to, then you will wind up with insane sociopaths abusing the knowledge and perhaps destroying society.
I think this is a large reason why teachers work so hard to uncover the character of the students they take, as the actions of the students affects the karma of the teacher as well.
Most real schools historically have only had a few inner door students, and no more.
This is because they do not want to create monsters.
3.
Hidden in a haystack of false teachings.
The spiritual community is filled to the brim with millions upon millions of teachers, and teachings.
Almost none of these do anything more than placebo.
Let's say a training book for a legit school was leaked online, how would you possibly know that it's methods were real, when there were 100 million others to try out as well which are false and do nothing.
One person cannot try all possible teachings.

It really could be a good long lasting one , should you Daobums be willing to share. We may even wake up some of those sleepy Daobums of old. Cor we might get lucky you never know.
But whether you’re a hidden master, a Qigong maverick or a slick beginner, I’m sure you got a gem or two to share…
Some ideas tower your whistle.
- Focus Points what you’ve noticed works how it’s changed?
- What are your mainstays?
- What do you wish you knew at the start?
- What made biggest difference when you added it?
- What change could you recommend to make a difference?
- What surprised you the most?
- What benefits surprised you?
oh I’m sure I could keep going with questions but I bet you have your unique perspectives on the history, sunburst, practice of Qigong.Would love to know you’re thoughts, especially you older Masters. Audio Recordings and videos from other masters too. Maybe you saved some as they were such great gems….
Share the links if you have great interviews of old masters, old video and audio. The older the better. Let’s make this a long lasting and quality thread , that can become a stand alone resource for
us, and serious students approaching these precious approaches to health, wealth and longevity…
Greeting to you Qigong Brothers and Sisters…
Lets dig into the archives and see what we can bring to light💡
🙏
What do you wish you knew at the start? When I first started I was so naive and excited.
Each day some new master appeared, and each day was amazing.
Somewhere along the way I realized that these masters were not masters at all, some were well meaning delusional people, and others just charlatans looking to make a quick buck.
At some point I realized that just because you can sell more books and videos than another teacher, doesn't mean you are a better teacher, or your lineage or practice is more legitimate.
What I realized is that ultimately there is a way to tell the difference between fake teachers/teachings, and real teachers/teachings and that is the results they get, and how those results are documented.
What I eventually came to understand is that just like anything in life, it is necessary to employ critical thinking and demand proof that a teacher, or a teachings actually does something more than a placebo.
Personal testimony does not matter, even if lots of people make claims, harder evidence is needed.
When you use this manner of thinking as a flashlight, you will see all but a few practices and teachers evaporate into nothing.
What made biggest difference when you added it?Earthing/Grounding, celibacy, deep trance, and laser like focus.
What surprised you the most? That the majority of spiritual seekers need no evidence to justify pursuing most teachings or teachers, but become violently skeptical whenever good hard evidence is provided.
So long as there is no evidence it's legit, but as soon as good evidence is provided it's a hoax or a scam.
This manner of thinking has always flabbergasted me.

22 hours ago, Turnip said:I am interested in anyone’s opinions or experiences about this. I’m wondering if there are practices such as qigong, that can be very healing, physically, emotionally, generally make one feel better and happier, maybe even bring about seemingly spiritual experiences, etc, but can have negative “side effects”. In that, they take something away from the person. They subtlety disempower the person. They are not ultimately fruitful for the growth of that person’s soul.
This leads into a broader question of how do you know if something is empowering you or disempowering you? Is this practice, teacher, activity, truly helping me grow and heal and become a better person, or is it handicapping my access to my deeper self-empowering nature?
Tonight I asked Hua Ching Ni’s I Ching for advice about how I should find a path to heal myself. I got hexagram 48, The Well. In his commentary, Ni writes:
”Some people dig only three to five feet for water, and upon striking rock, dig another hole and then another. With such shallow efforts, water is never reached. An ancient proverb says that it is better to dig one well deep enough to reach water than to dig nine shallow wells which provide nothing. One must willing to work through difficulties in order to reach water.
Of course, knowing whether there is water or not is important. On another level, beyond the issues of commitment and perseverance, this hexagram deals with the spiritual achievement of an individual. Knowing where to dig requires a deeper knowledge. Those who rush about digging here and there never allow themselves enough time to "sense" where the water is. Intuition is the result of self-development. Thus, one who is developed depends upon his intuitive and spiritual achievement to lead him to "water," instead of wasting a lot energy searching in many different directions.”The challenge is that if you’re not developed, how would you know where to dig? For every 10 people who say they’ve found a clean well with endless water supply, 9 of them could be drinking dirty water, or the supply could be limited without them knowing.
I am in my early twenties and have not dug deep enough in any direction, partly because I don’t know where the water is. Maybe it’s part of the process.
Does anyone have any words of advice, or experience of their own?
Most paths do not do anything at all, good or bad.
The few paths that do anything at all, can be very very dangerous if you are not able to follow instructions to the letter.
To know which practices are legit, you should be demanding good hard evidence that the practice does something.
If no such evidence exists you should pursue some other practice.

You are grounded, whether on top of a mountain or at the lowest point on earth, whether on a ship's deck in the middle of the ocean or an airplane 30,000 feet above the surface. Gravity (yin) is still acting upon you.
But there is value to practicing outdoors—we can connect with external qi when we do so with our eyes open (without focusing on any one object).
When I say grounded I meant electrically grounded, it's easy to test if you are electrically grounded.
There are plenty of times we are not electrically grounded.

6 hours ago, Thrice Daily said:What is the point of the system? In your eyes?
I’d say Love and Grace but that might be unpopular here.
It’s the same as we offer to our children through (love and Grace) and I’d argue it’s the point and directional flow of life itself, through us to our children and from what ever created us. (Might be an over simplification but I’m an optimist at heart)
The source of the Tao?
That’s one reason why I think Virtue is so important and is a natural Emanation of proper training, despite the teaching or system, but perhaps that is my natural inclination or acquisition over the years anyway.
It’s nice to be nice, I can’t abide the contrary, if genuinely mean spirited.
But then again we could argue it’s all down to perspective
One man’s food is another man’s poison.
Is there something beyond the Tao or not beyond the Tao, that is the question.
And one like a child to an adult, whose answer is dependant on faith alone …
The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle spoke of the Telos, or ultimate purpose of something.
To Aristotle the Telos of an acorn was an oak tree.
Imagine the journey of an acorn, how profound and powerful it is.
An acorn falls to the earth, and embeds itself in the soil.
It pushes it's roots into the soil, and it's shoots into the sky.
It hungrily absorbs water, and minerals from the soil, and sunlight and air from the sky.
It is able to capture and direct the energy of the sunlight so that it does it's bidding.
What does it command this energy to do?
It commands it to grow.
It hungrily grows more roots, and more shoots, and more leaves, and a bigger trunk.
It drinks the sunlight, it drinks the air, it drinks the water, and consumes the minerals.
With exquisite precision and intelligence it directs the flows of energy, and grows, and grows and grows.
One day many years later it has become a mighty oak tree.
While some might read this and assume it is a metaphor for something, I mean it more in a literal sense.
The view is that humans are not born with an immortal soul, but rather an acorn.
For most humans their acorn never grows because it is never given sunlight, air, water, or soil.
The goal would be to grow your acorn into a mighty oak before your physical body dies.
That would be to fulfill your Telos, or ultimate purpose as a human being.-

I think just about any practice done daily brings enormous benefits , health wellness etc
It might not give supernatural abilities though.
I don’t really seek such things these days, do you?
Genuine powers that are 100% outside of the realm of the imagination are beyond the scope of my understanding in Taoism proper to be honest.
I think it’s always worth leaving 1% for the possibility of it being self hallucinated unless something can absolutely be proven beyond belief to defy science and logic entirely,
I’d love to hear what these legit teachers can do to warrant charging 50k plus genuinely.
have you got prove examples @Shadow_self that isn’t would be sound to talk about on here?
When you become an adult you have abilities you did not have when you were a child.Imagine when you grow up you can stay up as late as you want, and eat as much ice cream as you want.
While this is true, it is hardly the purpose of becoming an adult.Training in an authentic and legitimate system, might lead to abilities but it isn't the point of the system.

I mean the postures in the books have got some serious age to them. Embracing the tree goes back to the Han Dynasty ,
the golden turtle and buffalo postures must go way back too, animal frolics or older?
Holding the golden urn, yin and Yang position is simply the body symmetrical arms twisted one way most and the other way most.
Awesome shapes , especially if you do kungfu eg White Crane [again extremely old, maybe even the oldest of the popularised animal styles] , or WCThe usefulness of these postures in evident if anyone has been practicing diligently enough for a length of time (or just has been blessed with an intuitive body)
Yeah I’m glad I know them and I’ll hasten to add. I bet they are as old as Qigong and Neidan itself…..
Personally speaking I feel similar about inner smile and 6 healing sounds . I can’t understand how and why someone would bash them.
The six sounds is a strong and vigorous procedure that is deeply affecting the organs and emotional health of the practitioner .
6 sounds earliest written complete records appeared around 500 CE
(could even be earlier)
Should I not practice 6 sounds because Mantak taught them (and quite well to be honest) to us westerners…
Should I not pay attention to my organs with gentle relaxed wi wei attention because Mantak Chia again taught it to us Westerners.
Of course not.
I’ve just got a respect for him. I’ve heard the stories… about his master and where he got the teachings or didn’t. I take him at face value though and just respect him in terms of what I’ve learned
about the connection I have with myself and the universe through his teachings.
Nothing more to say really. I feel sad for people that hurt themselves with his stuff but feel even worse for people that don’t know any of his stuff (just universal Taoist common sense really) and bash it anyway.
Prove me wrong if you got a good argument against I’d love to read it…
Rant over. Yeah I’m still cool with my younger self following the Mantak books. I’d just say, ‘chill out a bit you don’t need to breathe so hard’ 😂 ‘70% everyday Is a way better way to go , I’ll totally agree with that ethos’
A teaching or lineage being old doesn't make it legit.
There were plenty of delusional people back in ye olden times.
The advice I would give my younger self would be not to waste your time on a teacher or practice unless there is compelling evidence it does something, personal testimony is not good enough.

Its rarely as cut and dry as people paint it

Perhaps the most value comes from not looking for value,
Im struggling to understand your concept of obtaining something
For me it’s been more a process of stripping away layers of delusion to really more of what really is rather that what I think things are to be.
What starts as a big deal, generally tends to end up being no big deal
Bringing me to my next question, what is it exactly that students expect teachers to do?
I understand being on correct course can be important, otherwise with one tiny deviation we could end up being 1000’s of miles away from where we are ‘supposed’ to be
But isn’t that exactly where we are ‘supposed to be’ isn’t that the point?
I don’t want to force the point, but still…
To really learn to me, develop our song etc that’s it no? Relax, contract, repeat, release, let go…
i must have spent around a year doing absolutely nothing but earth. Literally a lot of time I was barefoot. And I tried to only give reverence to the earth I was standing on beneath my feet. That was it really , May be boring , but didn’t play with anything else.
Talking, I tried to talk only for the benefit of those around me and really moved out of my own way.
Arguably this was more valuable than a teacher, and how things were back when ‘I’ was looking for something for ‘me’
I’m not sure what people expect from teachers?
If they are real I’m surprised more of them don’t disappear and become the hidden masters
they are probably far better off being.
Just being, unless they are doing Neidan

You are correct that posting videos of you performing a Siddhi, and then turning down thousands of dollars to replicate it under controlled conditions doesn't necessarily prove fraud, but it is cause for concern.
As a potential student it would appear that the teacher was a fraud if they were not willing to do this.
While teachers owe us nothing, it doesn't make sense to invest years of our life and spend oodles of money if there is no good evidence the practice does anything at all.
If you disagree, then we can agree to disagree.
