To preserve and pass on uncommon knowledge and abilities to the worthy - as defined by the societies. The evil ones work in secret to manifest their aims while keeping the masses ignorant. The good ones work in secret to limit infiltration and destruction by evil - and do good works without the evil ones knowing. Over time, each waxes and wanes in temporal power and influence. Or something like that.

Why the secrecy? In my opinion, fraud and danger. First of all, implied secrets make great masks for fraud and/or incompetence. As for danger, those who get results see some of the risks and, if virtuous, don't want to be responsible for harm to, or through, others by sharing/teaching too much too soon - and with the wrong people. Evil and mental illness are not fantasies and Esoterics magnify character flaws - and virtues.

Hello all, I am pursuing Neigong per Damo Mitchell's approach. So far, so good. Though currently located in an exurb of Fort Worth, Texas, I am native to Oregon, both in the USA. I work as an Engineer and like to lift weights as a healthful hobby. I am also married with children. ~Allan
