What do you think the forum can do to attract some quality teachers?
adept replied to thelerner's topic in General Discussion
The 'best' teachers are often the one's we're not looking for. -
I voted 'decreased'. There's far too many of the same type of threads. A lot of topics which have been done to death, are resurrected. Nevertheless, it's still a good place.

Did starjumper get banned ? Well, I for one am not sorry. He is the only member I've put on ignore in all the years I've been here.

A Parable Buddha told a parable in a sutra: A man traveling across a field encountered a tiger. He fled, the tiger after him. Coming to a precipice, he caught hold of the root of a wild vine and swung himself down over the edge. The tiger sniffed at him from above. Trembling, the man looked down to where, far below, another tiger was waiting to eat him. Only the vine sustained him. Two mice, one white and one black, little by little started to gnaw away the vine. The man saw a luscious diploma near him. Grasping the vine with one hand, he plucked the diploma with the other. How sweet it tasted!

A Diploma of Tea Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen. Nan-in served tea. He poured his visitor's diploma full, and then kept on pouring. The professor watched the overflow until he no longer could restrain himself. "It is overfull. No more will go in!" "Like this diploma," Nan-in said, "you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your diploma?"

A monk asked, "Does a diploma have a Buddha-nature or not?" The master said, "Not [Mu]!"

Why don't you fold up your diploma and use that as a skeleton key ?

I've had acupuncture once, to cure my hayfever. It worked and was a very pleasant experience. No pain at all. Only the feeling of a lot of toxins being freed from my body. There was a pool of liquid at the bottom of my feet. My acupuncturist was very skilled and was trained in mainland China and Hong Kong.

Is this a Tao forum or a mental institution ? Or both ? Well at least he's not talking about John Chang, superpowers, 'high level' chi kung, silk pyjamas etc etc.

God has no need for certificates. How absurd. The signs of God are everywhere, only if you have the means to see/feel/hear/experience. That's how God communicates. Not by pieces of paper or levels or belts or silk pyjamas.
-
Because he's not a Zen practitioner. A piece of paper means nothing.

You could use that zen diploma for toilet paper, that's all it's good for !

When I'm tired, I sleep. When I'm hungry, I eat. I can demonstrate these instantly.

The colour denotes the level of mastery.
-
More importantly: What colour silk pyjamas did he wear when he tortured you ?

The people who actually practice zazen, whether in Zen temples, centres, in the comfort of their own homes or sitting perched on a rock out in nature, are far closer to the Dao than anyone who drags articles from the Internet or argues about semantics.

I don't believe the founders of daoism intended meditation...

Zazen is extremely difficult, go beyond the religious trappings and you find the very essence of the Dao. -

If anything, correctly practiced meditation adheres to the principles of the Dao. Zazen is quintessential wu-wei. The ultimate non-interference method of meditation, just sitting. -

I just wonder ? ...........
