  1. Art As A Spiritual Quest.

I think if I had Songtsan's meditation room it would Georgia O'Keefe flower paintings on the walls
  2. We are the master of our emotions

Sadness and melancholy can be beautiful and inspirational. I think rushing through and repressing "negative" emotions may contribute to the chronic mildly depressed state many are in. Suck it up and put on a smile, blech
  3. Let us be skydogs

More like a dissolute and impractical child who only wants more welding lessons so I can make stuff like this.
  4. Let us be skydogs

    I am a metal dog.
  5. Art As A Spiritual Quest.

People want to find a meaning in everything and everyone. That's the disease of our age...” ― Pablo Picasso
  6. Art As A Spiritual Quest.

I never thought words were sufficient to interpret what a painting means, but I'd like to know the music that brought the painting to mind.
  7. No one has scientifically been able to pinpoint consciousness in the brain. Thalamus receives sensory inputs from all parts of the body and starts to interpret them to form our perceptions. Thalamus is largely responsible if we find something beautiful or spiritually meaningful. A part of the brain with complex expansion in people is association areas within the thalamus and cerebral cortex. These areas associate, interpret and act on perceptions in complicated and often unpredictable ways. No wonder we misunderstand each other so often. Bliss and mental cultivation might have more to do with brain waves. Perhaps, we should distinguish between bliss and exuberance though, exuberance lacks consistency and precision.
  8. Mundane life, Boredom, Escapism

Exercise, play a sport, visit museums or historic places, cook something, learn to play an instrument, create art, learn a language, volunteer work, garden, social stuff, do your chores, take a nap, pay attention to your pets. I'm actually rarely bored too much to do.
  9. Hypothetical question

Maybe a member of some undiscovered Amazon basin tribe (wonder if there are any left).
  10. Dealing with customers, Being around people a lot

It is a good opportunity to feel empathy and compassion for people. The rude person probably feels terribly misunderstood and it's sort of cool how you can become friendly with the right interaction, so potential for good spiritual exercise. It can also be draining, so I think it's helpful to have sort of transition ritual when you leave and when you get home, maybe just wash hands really well and then do it again and change clothes, avoid taking work related stuff home. For balance, allow time alone and to rest.
  11. I don't know which it is or even if it has to be one of those two things. Talked to guy this weekend who thinks personality is a result of what's going on at conception. Sort of interesting would probably be really hard to test since most parents might not know exactly when, or remember, or be honest about details.
  12. Haiku Chain

Taomeow awakens blinks, watches the heavens drift my one thousandth post!
  13. How do I become a fearless?

I think you should be able to get rid of the tv being on before turning off the lights. You really shouldn't have one in your bedroom. If you still need background noise to get to sleep, then radio. Maybe get a radio that turns off after a certain amount of time. Then work on weaning down having lights on. Spend time doing exercise and doing things outdoors will help you feel calmer later when it's time for peaceful sleep, which is sleep in a dark quiet place. Poor quality sleep in a nonpeaceful environment will keep you more anxious during the day.
  14. The Tao of Dying

I don't think the nuclear family is a good model for raising kids. In relation to the Tao of dying it is also not too good for elderly and infirm who need help and end up being a "burden." Anthropologically, it has not been that long since we lived in tribal groups or at least in communities with lots of extended family nearby. It might sound hokey but it really does take a village. Too many parents in nuclear families end up being pulled apart with childcare, their own parents needs and trying go to work. Factors are different for a single healthy person. To raise children or care for elderly is very stressful and difficult in our culture unless people have lots of social support- or lots of money.
  15. *

Thank you. Good thread, just pushed tall heavy dresser from wall across from foot of bed to left side of room and does seem better now. Should have done advise to empty and declutter the drawers first.

How about plants? I've read you shouldn't have them in the bedroom, but can't remember why. Seems like they would be good for the air.
  17. Moderator Dictatorship

That is consistent with impression I got, that maybe it was difficult to get feedback from people with time constraints or they were having second thoughts on moderating. But WWROA, has a point too, til you told us the above it seemed weird because it sounded like a lot of fuss to get the cabal together if it was only 2 people.
  18. Moderator Dictatorship

Who are the moderators(besides viator)? There is a link for moderating team but it tells me 8 pages of every one with a PPF so I didn't scroll through it to try to figure it out. Seems like a lot of people who used to do it, but who is it now? Props to viator for at least trying and communicating, on post about locked thread it seemed like perhaps the others weren't even very available to discuss it and come to a conclusion.
