Is anarchy a feasible solution for the world's woes?
zanshin replied to Aaron's topic in General Discussion
Oh, sorry, don't know why my last post was twice. I know it's fashionable to grumble about government, but just looked thru community guide and feeling love for my local government right now. We have nice parks system; they even built a meditation labyrinth last year! Working on putting in new bike and running trails. We have a great array of low cost classes for all from toddlers to seniors. Lots of nice programs and resources for seniors. We have low cost community garden plots where even apartment dwellers can grow their own food. We get free festivals, outdoor concerts and movies on the hill this summer. Just wish they'd fix that damn pothole on the corner! -
Junk Food Linked With Increased Depression Risk: Study

I think it's liability, walker could get hit by a car. I was told no walkers once too. So we got a shopping cart from the market and my friend pushed me through in it. The guy working laughed and gave us some food. -

Is anarchy a feasible solution for the world's woes?

Yeah, bridges, in the modern world you would need some sort of centralized control to keep infrastructure up. In theory, anarchy might work well in small communities, but people are mobile, we are becoming more a global society. It seems like it would be helpful to have some universal standards so people could travel around easily. I do agree with allowing people to live as they see fit, eccentrics living individual anarchic existences and a bit of civil disobedience is probably good for society, we have way too many rules, too many sheep. So I think some minimalist central organization and standards, and otherwise let people be. But the small communities and groups, might be colorful and interesting as long as they don't get too organized, but I also see the eccentrics getting organized with weird little insular groups and weird little rules. -

I agree, and all the variations of "they ain't like us." have been used as tools to dehumanize the opposing group and get the masses to fall in line behind the land and power grabbers.

Junk Food Linked With Increased Depression Risk: Study
zanshin replied to DalTheJigsaw123's topic in General Discussion
Not necessarily bad to study correlation, I think the university scientists understand it's not conclusive and doesn't show causation. The media and public are the ones who make that sort of leap. So much importance given to science and research, helpful to understand how it should work properly. Old example from statistics class was ice cream sales and violent rape are highly correlated, of course neither causes the other. This study could open gates to other studies. Seems like a no-brainer to us that eating nutritious food and regular exercise make help mildly depressed people feel better, but if you want insurance companies and wellness programs everything must be proven and shown mathematically to work. So the next step might be to randomly assign mildly depressed people to a group with healthy meals and nutritional counseling, maybe you could have an exercise group and a meditation and stress management group, the control group could get conventional talk therapy to see if people might get better just from getting some attention (placebo effect). Then, the researchers could analyze the data and if significant result, make some justification for wellness programs of some sort- maybe instead of giving people pills with side effects to pop. Which probably won't happen anyway, since nutrition, exercises and meditation don't have bankrolls like big pharma. On the roll of no-brainer studies that we already could have guessed. OSU just did a big study that showed it's better for the environment to just leave wetlands alone, rather than manage, reclaim or rebuild them. -
Peanut butter in a sauce with tofu gives it a good flavor too.

Junk Food Linked With Increased Depression Risk: Study
zanshin replied to DalTheJigsaw123's topic in General Discussion
Okay, but we should understand implications of studies, correlation does not show causation. People becoming depressed may not be at a place where they care about nourishing food and eat what's convenient, so the depression could cause the junk food eating. Life stress and being sedentary could be tertiary factors that causes both. -

What you and most guys might not understand is a lot of fashion and beauty isn't about men and sex. We do it for other women and there's a whole sort of heirarchy and connection of looks and social status. Most guys barely know what is current trend and subleties involved in carrying a certain bag or shoes we wear. Way more info than "floozie" or "not flozie." Even in Islamic cultures where women stay covered in public, when just the girls get together the coverings come off and girls will wear cute and fashionable outfits for each other, not so much sexual as social. Can even be a way to express artistic side. -
If you're spirituality is not rational, how do you keep from getting scammed?
zanshin replied to findley's topic in Daoist Discussion
It's also not material, so don't buy spirituality. Maybe I am missing out on great teachers and practices, occasionally I will buy a book or try something new. Have basically come to conclusion all I really need is nature, meditation and qigong, but what I want from spirituality is to be calm, healthy and feel connected to things. Not trying to gain superpowers or become enlightened, partly because I don't have time to be that dedicated to practice, and partly because I suspect ti's a scam. -
Evidently, all you need to do is look fit and pretty, save/make lots of money and be organized. I was at supermarket staring at magazine covers and realized this is basic program everyone is supposed to try to do and perhaps I should try harder to get on track to see what happens if I'd accomplish these things. Good grief, that would be easier than becoming liberated of the 6 senses. Instead of doing any of that, I came home went for a long barefoot walk and then ate ice cream, feeling pretty good in spite of it all

I don't know how EM field of body would be studied but we can study electical activity in muscles pretty well with electromyography. Baseline electrical activity in muscles (as shown by EMG) is less with good postural alignment and more with stress, I'm sure breathing right helps too. EMG studies on practitioners might be interesting. You're right about chronically clenched muscles harder to metabolize energy and more pathology.

Yeah, I can go for over 15 minutes! (hula-hooping), that and jump rope are the things I can do to impress people of all ages. More fun than usual gym stuff anyway. I can also fly a kite pretty well, next I may need to develop my yo-yo skills.

Being awkward, moving slower, and not talking and schmoozing so much isn't creepy, a little awkwardness is actually charming. Schmoozing, touching too much and too quickly, and trying to immediately isolate her from her friends is creepy. MAnipulation and negging is probably a good way to pick up an insecure girl. The "don't be afraid to be creepy" technique is actually probably a good way to pick up a girl who wants to take care of you and be your mom.

Thanks to all the board dudes, I've really ramped up my files of useless knowledge on the subject of semen retention, but can anyone give a sister some advice? Occasionally waking up hot and sweaty and throwing the covers off. As someone who is usually cold sort of probably mistakenly looking forward to hot flashes, but oh, will I lose my superpowers of doing strenuous exercise with minimal sweat or running for miles when it's 90 degrees and humid and no one else even wants to step out of cold icky air conditioning? Seriously, can anyone tell me about energetics or any cultivation challenges or opportunities at this phase?

This too, I agree with, not necessarily against religion, but it absolutely should not have anything to do with politics. Always people and groups will disagree, but wars and killing over who really is god's chosen people might be the height of human folly No...I'll still give it second place to destroying the environment, no to dominion over the Earth too. Now with evolution, all living things are my distant cousins, all people are my brothers and sisters. I find the idea of evolution sort of spiritual, all the same tree lots of branches.

Oh, talk about religion just seems silly and frivolous. Let's get serious- Please tell me more of the spice bread gelato, I may have to embark upon a quest. -
Sometimes what you want is better than what you have though. If you get all those material things or the dream job or the perfect mate. Well then what... Working folks blues, working hard to buy those things you want, but then you don't enjoy since you just work til you're exhausted to pay the bills.

Thanks for tea link and diet advice! Clarity, yours does seem right, yes my sensation, reaction and emotions triad better than it was, maybe time to get rid of more things I don't need anymore.

'Twould be some crazy karma. That too, might work out just fine, as a mom and a householder, some of the more dedicated and esoteric practices are probably going to have to wait for another life anyway.
