  1. Intellectualism is for wimps

I didn't follow it all either, but decided the title is probably correct. Homo Sapiens (Latin: thinking man) is a pretty wimpy species except for intellect. If people weren't so smart and tricksy, all the present generation would never exist to argue and shoot the breeze about philosophy and that is because predators would have killed and eaten us long ago. Intellect is a survival strategy that has worked pretty well on the global species level. Irony is now the wimps bully all the other species. I think I'll miss the tigers most of all. I know it's not really a discussion of biology and dna, perhaps some of the a certain species of mammal will become enlightened and gain ever-lasting life. I'm just a girl who pays the bills and does the laundry.
  2. Monkey Mind ? Anyone else?

It is strange how pain can keep you in the moment and grounded in the body for meditation like horse stance or full lotus, but for distance running it can be adaptive to space out and forget the body- whoops there went 2 miles.
  3. Monkey Mind ? Anyone else?

It helps me to get it out of my mind and written down, a little time to be compulsive and set schedules, write things down and be organized helps with keeping my mind relaxed after it is done.
  4. The Yi Jing Begins with the Eight Symbols of the Ba Gua

It makes sense in looking at lines. But now Earth (foundation and higher lands) are yang in relation to water (yin), so more complex than to think Earth always yin and Heaven or Sky is yang?
  5. The Yi Jing Begins with the Eight Symbols of the Ba Gua

I'm a beginner so my questions are definitely from curiosity and wanting to understand, not challenging. Had same question about why I have seen it translated as Lake more than Marsh and I have no idea why, just I've seen LAke more. I wonder if maybe a word like valley, ravine or even cavern could have put the yin example more on the same scale of mountain for yang, pothole seems like a small insignificant thing compared to mountain. But, it also confused me that mountain was the example for yang when mountain (Ken) is also a trigram in itself. Taomeow's post seemed to help with that, perhaps yang is a dynamic quality while Mountain trigram has attribute of keeping still. That's probably jumping the gun again, so will wait til we get to Mountain to see if it becomes more clear then.
  6. The Yi Jing Begins with the Eight Symbols of the Ba Gua

Is there a reason you used Marsh instead of Lake? I've seen translated as both, but Lake more often. How is essence of Marsh or Lake different from Water?
  7. I want a diploma.

If someone says you're in denial and you're not, what can you say? If you decide that you're indecisive, which one are you?
  8. Mushin and Mindfulness

Mushin no shin Mind of no mind, from Japanese samurai teaching like Musashi. Zen Buddhist etymology. Highly automatic fighting state where action becomes intuitive. Mind and body merge and flow. Flow like water, alluded to by Bruce Lee too, flow like water, become the cup. Related to terminology state of flow in psychology,so not just martial arts. Highly trained musician playing a piece same state of mind, jazz musicians improvising together good example too, if they just play probably good if someone stops to think a lot might fizzle. Mindfulness I think of more being in the moment and non wandering mind. It might be a precursor to mushin no shin, but not the same.
  9. How to get spiritual without really trying

    Seriously, never volunteer
  10. chi kung insight watned

  11. TBH, this site is quite useless in taoist forms.

I tried to draw a hard line between core and the universe, but then the wind blew.
  12. After 63 pages perhaps conspiracy theories all that's left to talk about it. Dets on that part. http://www.titanicuniverse.com/the-titanic-conspiracy

  14. Black pope is head of Jesuit order and is for robe color. Black nobility is old powerful corrupt Eiropean families. Jesuit is Catholic order and Francis first Jesuit pope. ( I just looked these things up). I think it's just a spin on illuminati conspiracy theory- not racist although maybe anti Catholic. So much manipulation and power plays we do know about through history does make me wonder what else done covertly.
  15. Ok! I think I got it!

That's the 4 Fs that modern man has definitely not evolved past. But not thinking in words since he didn't know any. More like natural action following awareness, he knew where the sabre tooth was in the first place and didn't go there. He knew where to hunt tomorrow and no need for big campfire discussion and analysis, more time for other fun things.
  16. Ok! I think I got it!

Maybe try this way. From neurological perspective the left neocortex is a really big special deal in humans. Reasoning, analyzing and especially language is a hallmark of our species. Sort of ironic this is going to be all words. Most people are very focused in the left neocortex all the time- unless they are daydreaming in imaginary world which would be more right neocortex. But then they get bad at intuition and simple things like knowing when the weather will change, when danger is coming and even what their feelings are. So for mindfulness, you can't go for a walk and have no thoughts with your brain completely turned off since then you could fall in a hole or get eaten by a predator. But you really don't need words to go take your walk, prehistoric man could go take a walk with a very different awareness than most modern people before those language centers in the neocortex developed, but what did he think about when he walked?
  17. Ok! I think I got it!

You might be overthinking your thoughts. Not much you can do with them by thinking about them. I like the comparison to cutting water with a knife. The water won't clear if you keep stirring it about. Stay calm and it may settle and clear without so much effort.
  18. I have an old martial arts instructor who used to tell us stories about a minor local celebrity he used to work for. This guy had a nice guy public persona, but could actually be a horrid egomaniac jerk. So this celebrity would rant and scream and demand, my instructor would be trying hard not to laugh. He was ex-military special forces with multiple martial arts and practical combat experience; it secretly amused him when this dude would try to bully him. It is a different thing to choose to be calm and peaceful rather than doing it because of fear or intimidation. Like the know the male but keep to the female quote from TTC, or peace through strength.
  19. Does anyone here grow some of their own food?

You can do plastic wrap over seed planted in starter pots in moist soil and will start a little quicker with less watering than no covered. Take wrap off once sprouted. Almost nothing should be watered daily, keep little seedlings moist but not wet. As they get bigger allow to dry out a little between waterings, this will help develop strong roots. Constant wet feet will cause the roots to rot.
  20. I have the power

Yes, I do. All this snow and it hasn't gone out once this winter. Hope I didn't just jinx myself.
  21. Does anyone here grow some of their own food?

If I was in rental, I'd do herbs in strawberry pots. That's a big pot with little spaces molded into sides. You can also do cherry tomatoes or of course strawberries in them. Now might be right time to start summer vegetable like tomatoes and peppers for seeds for England, but they can't go outside if near freezing temps. Lettuce is cool season so might be able to grow that in spring if you have room for a little flower bed. Trellisable plants might fit your space, peas for cool season, beans in summer- or you can do squash, cucumbers or tomatoes on a trellis too. Good potting soil and miracle gro probably easiest, eventually if more permanent space then it's fun to geek out with composting, soil amendments and cultivation. Forest gardening can be fun. I am thinking about trying shitake mushrooms now that we own some wooded land. Probably lots of edible food already growing in your forest and park. You'd have to research specific to your area and what to look for seasonally. Probably fruit and nut trees. Be careful to understand what mushroom and berries for your area are safe before you eat them. You might have wild grapes and you can make things like dolmades with the leaves. You might have wild garlic or onions. You probably have edible greens that are great for health in early spring as long as he park staff isn't spraying chemicals.
  22. Does anyone here grow some of their own food?

Where do you live? -zone or general area. What is space available?
  23. Energy Cultivation and electrical devices
