  1. Suggestions for a Simpler Living

Canola/Rapeseed (a pretty unfortunate name, but it's an old word) is pretty popular here in Germany, too, and a preferred oil for cooking. We have it in the house, but only organic quality. It's also an industrial product, used for "bio-diesel" among other things, so quality can vary wildly. Olive oil is good stuff, the best as far I'm concerned. The smoke point of good olive oil is well below anything you'll acheive on your stovetop. Problems begin if you're using a wok with a gas burner. Those get crazy hot and you need special oils for them. Peanut oil is good for that, and you only need a tiny amount.
  2. well, I don't really understand your question, but when I do any kind of spinal twisting practices, I would generally be inhaling and rising while twisting and exhaling/sinking while returning to the middle. So, regardless of direction, going from the middle to either left or right is going to be an opening/rising action. But it's really a lot more involved than that.
  3. Hello !?

I agree, there are many excellent, down-to-Earth suggestions for practice in that book. Much of it devoted to describing the group's courses, and so not of interest to the uninitiated reader (like me), but there's enough good stuff there to make it a safe recommend. You could also enjoy this book by Peter den Dekker

sorry to be confrontational but that myth has been debunked, time and again. The warning about the smoke point is (probably) correct in general, but there's no reason not to use olive oil for normal stir-frying at home. edit: good quality olive oil (or any oil). If the oil contains impurities, then it may well go up in smoke sooner than it should.
  5. Insomnia is down to lack of/broken qi?

Among all the really good stuff in this thread, stop the alcohol. It causes liver fire at night and that makes you restless, and causes a lot of the other symptoms, too.
  6. Suggestions for a Simpler Living

coconut oil for stir frying can get expensive ... I mostly use olive oil, and plain butter
  7. Nikola Tesla Interview

well, here's my offer: You write a few paragraphs explaining what you find good about it, citing specific passages and what the mean to you, and I'll move it back to General Discussion, ok? As it stands, it's just a copy/paste bomb of a disingenuous text that people are passing around the internet, and that's not something we need on the front page, so to speak. Btw, I think I found the source. I searched "Ascended Master from the PAT" and found this link: http://www.stankovuniversallaw.com/2012/11/the-only-role-of-every-pat-ascended-master-is-to-be-truly-himself/ Appears to be the blog of "Georgi Stankov". See the introduction to the Tesla "interview", signed, George.
  8. Full moon thread

The moon is beautiful right now. The sky is just a little hazy, but the stars are out and the moon is perfectly round, with a yellow halo ... wish I had a camera that could capture the image. The twenty eight day moon cycle determines pretty much everything we associate with being human. The moon is the reason we have cycles and tides on this planet in the first place, and those tides were the dynamic that was needed to morph the primordial stew into our earliest ancestors. What I notice most about the full moon, though, is the change in weather it always brings. It's been kind of dreary and cold for a couple weeks now, but after the full moon, it'll be more mild and sunny.
  9. saw this comment at the bottom of the SciAm article, and groaned internally a little: Why scientists ignore some places where the ball doesn't fall uprightly without push and initial velocity which exist an abnormal style of gravity on Earth? I saw some videos on YouTube that there are some places on Earth , when you drop a ball without any push , it will fall along a slant way. It' s not a magic trick.
  10. What means Yin Yang?

It's motion and change, and it's something you can experience in your own body.
  11. Nikola Tesla Interview

The thread is going to off topic.

  13. Nikola Tesla Interview

Glad you find inspiration in it, but this "interview" is 100% fake. http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=45539.0 https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/1r9e5o/til_nikola_tesla_held_an_interview_in_1899/
  14. Suggestions for a Simpler Living

Just want to point out that where I wrote "fried", I was referring to lightly stir-fried in a skillet :-) But I do use a lot of oil, no doubt.
  15. Is the earth round/spherical?

Well, I think the rotating ball of fluid, with its own rotating spherical satellite, both of them orbiting around a source of heat/light does a pretty good job of predicting exactly those things. But that's the lovely post I was waiting for from you :-) Heavenly stems, Earthly branches, timespace, says it all, yes.
  16. This is fascinating: https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn25894-meet-the-electric-life-forms-that-live-on-pure-energy And this very elegant sentence popped out at me: "We know that life, when you boil it right down, is a flow of electrons."
  17. electric life forms that live on pure energy

There's something else about the electron exchange, it's something that I say often in my qigong groups. Every breath is an opportunity to introduce new energy (oxygen/qi) into every single cell in the body, all four to seven trillion of them, the 10% of the cells that are human origin and the 90% that aren't; the big, obvious groups of cells, and the hidden, forgotten, distant groups of cells, and an equally great opportunity to expunge the old. This carries over to the mind, as well, and releasing old memories and behaviorial patterns that have developed over the years, or decades. All we have to do, is breathe. And all we do is breath. Taken down to that level of electrons in the article, the energy exchange is vast, as big as the universe, really. And that's pretty awesome :-) Ask: Who wants change? And they all answer: Me! Ask: Who wants to change? And they all answer: ...

Hi iBee One thing I notice, you're relying on clichés about healthy food, and I think you migt be disappointed with the results over time. The first thing to do is minimize sugar intake. View all carbohydrates as sugar, because that's what they are. Sugar is absolutely vital to life functions (as made clear in the link I posted about the organisms that live on electricity), but it's in virtually everything, including meats, and we get all we need and then some when we stick to a protein/fat-based diet. Every excess molecule of sugar can be viewed as poison that wears down and ages the organism over time, and not that much time is involved in the process. I don't personally like to eat much meat, and when I do, it's generally local, often game (boar or deer) from local hunters. But I eat lots of fresh eggs and fish (also often local, trout, carp, often smoked). A typical meal for me would be three eggs and an assortment of colorful, chopped vegetables, fried up in olive oil, with a variety of spices (my staples are tumeric and cumin, plus chili and miso), often with some chunks of oily fish tossed into the mix. Eat breakfast! Don't snack! Also, coffee is wonderful, healthy stuff, but you have to prepare it correctly, and drink it without sugar, of course. You have the right attitude and whatever you do, I'm sure you'll turn out fine :-)
  19. electric life forms that live on pure energy

I like the way you interpreted it, iBee :-) "We know that life, when you boil it right down, is a flow of electrons" sums up, and crystalizes, my own views, which are also reflected in this quote in my signature: “When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe”. I'm connected to everything and everyone (electrons), and everywhen (flow). Life is grand, life is mysterious and life is live, and because I want my grand, mysterious, live experience to continue to flow and grow, it's my personal mission to make that exchange of electrons as hindrance-free as I can. Good food, fresh air, healthy exercise, friendship and love, those are the basic ingredients in my soup of life. Much like your Grandmother may have said it, I guess. But a bowl of soup isn't enough, it's only the electrons in a container. The flow is equally important, and that means new experiences, new perspectives, change for the sake of change. Travelling and socialising, getting out in the world, networking, etc.
