To the point of MS giving away the update for free, I'm pretty sure that was a business decision, and a reluctant one at that. Win8 was a huge dud and they had to be proactive to win back their customers. And now they have the only truly cross-platform OS. The new phones are going to replace PCs and notebooks. I suspect they're aiming at the business sector.

Why so many skeptics and non-believers on a Tao forum?
soaring crane replied to Golden Dragon Shining's topic in The Rabbit Hole
you actually see a lot of evidence of that here? I think you might be extrapolating the content of some frivolous conversations into a far larger issue than it is. -

Why so many skeptics and non-believers on a Tao forum?
soaring crane replied to Golden Dragon Shining's topic in The Rabbit Hole
You're not comfortable being around people who don't share your worldview? The worst conformists I've ever encountered were in the New Age circles I used to dabble in. They would all nod their heads and agree that the church was evil and churchgoers were a bunch of sheep, and then one of them would make some unfounded claim, and they they would all agree. So long as the syntax felt comfortable to them, they were unanimous in their opinions. For what it's worth, I think spiritually-inclined people who find their way to Daoism often do so because they were frustrated at some level with exactly that kind of uncritical, automatic, acceptance of unfounded, untested and unprovable ideas. Daoism is pragmatic and evidence-based. It's scientific. And I suspect that's at least a small part of the "non-belief" you're sensing here. What would you like people to believe, to make you feel comfortable? -
The timing was interesting ...

I got as far as number 7, when he made a claim I know very well to be absolutely false: "Because of the height of the towers (693 ft or 211 m) and their distance apart (4,260 ft or 1,298 m), the curvature of the Earth's surface had to be taken into account when designing the bridgeāthe towers are 1 5ā8 inches (41.275 mm) farther apart at their tops than at their bases; they are not parallel to each other." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verrazano%E2%80%93Narrows_Bridge But what do civil engineers know about it? Clearly, if youtube had existed before the VZ bridge was built, they could have saved themselves a lot of effort by building simple, straight, parallel towers. What I'm wondering is, do those doubting the obvious actually mean it literally, or symbolically? I like TaoMeow's offerings (which I always do) because they're thought-provoking and well-founded (and well-written), but she's writing from another dimension. The other voices on the matter just come across as mundane internet trolling.

Is it possible to use AC or DC electricity to give us Chi energy?

If you want to experiment, I suggest starting with DC ... -

Are you pulling our legs now? I grew up near Bear Mountain, was in fact this past May and again in August there, and yes you can see NYC from that area, I've taken photos of it, so what? It's not that far away, and it's, you know, a mountain. The sixty miles this clown mentions are probably what he read on the odometer of his car. I assume the Philly photo is a similar situation. If the Earth is flat, please take a photo of The Eiffel Tower from the top of the Empire State Building. This is the kind of truly tinfoil-hat stuff that prompted my reply to the "science" forum request. Next up: Chemtrails.

LED's are unfortunately built with a self-destruct circuit, for exactly the reason this thread was started. But the first Graphene light has been developed and once they take over the market, there's no telling where we'll go. Graphene is the game changer of the century, or the millenium. http://motherboard.vice.com/read/speaking-of-graphene-heres-a-graphene-light-bulb

Bringing modern artefacts back to ancient civilizations
soaring crane posted a topic in The Rabbit Hole
Yesterday, I daydreamed about bringing a mountain bike to ancient China. How do you think they'd respond to it? And what would you bring to when? -
Understanding Te as the root of compassion - more essential than tao?
soaring crane replied to scribe's topic in Daodejing
short note to point out that De isn't only "mentioned in the title of the book" it's actually the first "word" in the text, in the more ancient arrangements. -
Forgot about the eyes, haha. I had them lasered three years ago and that involved a LOT of examanation beforehand. Also, I've been in the hospital a few times and they always check everything. Last time was for stroke-like symptoms, which turned out to be .... nothing. Maybe a migrane? I had three days of nothing but medical tests, everything imaginable, including cancer screenings, and all values were tops. I've also gone through a few stress tests related to my running sports. Forgot about those, too.

huh. I'm 52 and haven't had a check-up since my Army days, which ended in 1986.

In fact, if the Earth weren't a sphere, rotating on its own axis and travelling around another sphere, the length of days would vary wildly from area to area. But the time zones, seasons, and differences in daylight hours from pole to pole are consistent with exactly the model that is being argued here.

Don't use the express installation when installing /upgrading. You can unclick about ten boxes that pertain to privacy issues. And also select your own default programs. Changing all of those after the fact is a PITA.

The flaw in the medications argument is that there's no way to calculate the number of mass killings there would be without them. The nra et al argument is that there would be fewer but the reality is that would be far more.
-
As in other western countries where people have the same stress related problems, the same medications, the same society for the most part and yet... Not much mass murder going on.

I agree with Dawei. Some people's idea of "science" is pretty far-fetched and more closely related to religion than they may be aware of. I think it would quickly turn into a dumping ground for conspiracy theories. Off-Topic is the place for that.

It simply makes sense that a sphere is the result of forces affecting an object from all directions equally.
