  1. My girlfriend wants to lose weight

    On the scale of superficiality?
  2. If we're limiting the list to the American government, then I agree with you, and add about 95 of American industry. Which one is worse? I have experience with both and really can't tell.
  3. I also agree that true marriage of two souls supercedes government confirmation. But these guys are dangerous screwballs. They actually remind me of the European missionaries who went to Africa to prepare the natives for the coming industrial invasion. Keep them ignorant and faithful and they won't resist the oligarchy when it comes to steal the village.
  4. My girlfriend wants to lose weight

So have we come to a consensus yet? I think she's beautiful just the way she is.
  5. What do you mean you can't do the full lotus?!

    Freaky!!!
  6. Macabre??? Because it's directed at the USA? Are American strategic scenarios also macabre?
  7. The Truth About Karl Marx (Stefan Molyneux)

Lenin never read Das Kapital, either, as I understand it. They used the Manifesto, which Marx wrote while trying to make some waves in the competitive pool of philosophers back in the day, and may well have never really read it, either. Das Kapital is a little less dry in German, but still way too thick for this birdbrain.
  8. a "little" Taiji inspiration for you all :-)

Not odd at all. I'm pretty sure it's the truth.
  9. My girlfriend wants to lose weight

Learn that skinny is actually kind of unhealthy and unattractive?
  10. The Truth About Karl Marx (Stefan Molyneux)

Do I understand this correctly? A "bald guy on the internet" who is somewhat of a comedian and actor, read a book that was written by one of the most notoriously neoliberal writers on the conservative book market, and then felt self-assured enough to create a video entitled "the truth about Karl Marx"? Is that about right? And somebody actually takes this seriously? I think *that* might be the problem right there. Perhaps the relevant question is, "has Paul Johnson read Marx?"
  11. Hi, I'd be interested in a discussion about the 9 Palaces Qigong from Baolin Wu's book, 'Qigong for total wellness'. What I'm mostly interested in is the nuts and bolts of the exercises themselves; the structure and timing of the meditations/practices. I find the book very inspirational but I'm having trouble putting together a cohesive practice plan based on what I read. Has anyone here got good solid experience with this system? What does your daily (monthly, yearly) practice look like? Thanks :-)
  12. A note from Tech

    o now THERE'S a system !
  13. What Does The End Of Net Neutrality Look Like?

T-Online only suggested that it might consider doing something like this, though not nearly as extreme as in the examples in this video, and they got hit with an uproar of outrage, and were told flat-pout by regulators that there's no chance in hell of their getting away with it in Germany. Whew.
  14. Baolin Wu - 9 Palaces practice discussion

Forgot - I read a short blurb recently of a snake handler who injected himself with tiny amounts of venom over his career, built up an immunity to snake bites, and lived to be, I think it was 103 years old. I'll have to check on the age. Sounds like a technique worth investigating Edit: it was 101 yrs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Haast
  15. Baolin Wu - 9 Palaces practice discussion

Yeah, that's not such an unusual price for that sort of thing. The system is good, I'm sure. I do my own interpretation of many of the techniques in the book. But as I wrote earlier, I havent really been able to put together a comprehensive set of exercises based on the book. Still one of the most interesting and valuable books I've come across yet. I'd forgotten all about this thread btw...
  16. A note from Tech

Hieroglyphics are a pita on mobile devices
  17. A note from Tech

yeah, lot's of material for a password in there hahaha
  18. A note from Tech

Disclosure: all of my (real) passwords are based around captain beefheart songs and lyrics ;-)
  19. A note from Tech

Haha I took something out of my immediate vicinity :-D

  21. A note from Tech

Huge scandal just got underway in Germany involving 16M passwords being stolen by small-time crooks (everything is small-time compared to the NSA). One of the most significant aspects of the case is that people use the same password for everything - email, amazon, Facebook, Taobums, etc. Bad idea. Good system - make up a fantasy word or use a household word at least 12 characters long - memorize the word, obviously - and make three or four variations on the spelling that you can remember, using numbers or whatnot.
  22. "whereas with the Eastern systems it seems that they "cut straight to-the-chase" from the very beginning." Is that really true? Or is it just the western interpreters who make it seem that way? Could one of the demarcations of Daoist methods be the experiential nature of the practices compared to faith-based approaches in virtually all other (belief-) systems?
  23. Idiocracy

    amazing!
  24. ^^ that's the American experience. And as 4bsolute pointed out, much of the jargon is very violent warspeak. It's shocking to no American parent when their little kids say something like "we killed them!" when all they're talking about is winning a soccer game. Believe it or not, this subtle linguistic training affects your world view, your perspective on life, your priorities, your sense of right and wrong and normalcy. And it permeates the population.
  25. This reminded me of a significant difference between German and English. In English, one says 'I'll see you later'; in German it's formulated "we'll see each other" (although Germans often mistakenly say "we see us"). The English method is difficult for Germans to comprehend. It's very egocentric. Als, capitalizing the first person pronoun when writing isn't done in German. I think these things do have an effect on the perspective.
