thank you! What's the title of the book? I'll buy it just to support the guy. I've been into cold showers and ice baths for years. They are without a doubt the quickest way to strengthen the immune system (German priest/therapist Sebastian Kneipp made them popular, along with other 'water cures', in the the 19th century and his methods are still very popular here).

Baolin Wu - 9 Palaces practice discussion
soaring crane replied to soaring crane's topic in General Discussion
good to know, thank you I should add that I did use the search function to see if there was a dedicated thread, but of course didn't see the one you posted here.... also, haha, found this statement in the thread: "Scotty, thanks for leading me on to this book! This book is awesome and strangely underrated! But I found it somewhat difficult to read. It would take a while to read, extract practicable information, organize it and formulate some sort of a manual. But it seems it is worth doing all that." Now I don't feel so all alone. -

Baolin Wu - 9 Palaces practice discussion

but probably not in Germany Yes, the ear massage is quite easy to follow along with and put into practice, but the later exercises ... not so much. I'd really like to see what an experienced practitioner looks like when performing them, or an entire routine based on the sequence. That's what's missing in the book (for me); a kind of summary or organised step-by-step chart, some structure of any kind. I'll dig out some specific examples of what I mean later. Thank you all for replying -
Nasty side effects from the Microcosmic Orbit - what am I doing wrong?
soaring crane replied to Perceiver's topic in Daoist Discussion
You could try a lower, micro-microcosmic orbit, circulating only in the lower belly, and finishing very definitely in the Huiyin area. You have to close the meditation securely, no matter how you do it. But, how exactly are you doing your MCO in the first place? There are a lot of approaches to this. -
was finishing a 30 mile run with my dog, wearing my usual garb: short shorts and a doo rag (a "functional" head scarf) on my head, and nothing else. Went past a group of pony riders, little kids with their parents walking along beside them. After passing a particular pony, this tiny little, innocent and deadpan voice said, "a pirate". Like it was an everyday event seeing a nearly naked pirate running down the pony path. I cracked up. Had to turn around and give a big thumbs up. The parents lol'd, too.

Hi, just a quick note before nodding off in the feathers and since I was in this forum anyway - for anyone who's read ZAMM, did you catch the similarity of the description of "Gumption" and what we call Shen? I explain Shen here in Germany as "Geist", which Germans relate mostly to the notion of "Mind", except I tell them, no, not that kind of Geist, think "Team Geist" (Team Spirit) or "Enthusiasmus" (German, and also Greek for "Enthusiasm"). Well, in ZAMM, Pirsig also explains the root of the word Enthusiasm which breaks down to "Filled with the Spirit", it's also Shen. Wow, lol, I dig it. Well, that was my quick 2c for now...

But then why did you switch? I don't agree that bad feelings are a good sign. Bad feelings are bad feelings.

A lot of doctors know all about all of this, and are moving away from the pseudo-medicine they learned in medical school. The trend is growing. Be patient

Tea Party Express Video- 11Apr10 in Michigan
soaring crane replied to Taiji Bum's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I just want to clear up that what I had in mind when I added the comment to the photo wasn't that "Tea-Partiers are Nazis". My thoughts at the moment were only on Nationalistic movement in general. The Nationalist/Socialist movement in this country was much, much more than a crusade against the Jews, but I forgot at that moment that that aspect is the one (obviously) which made the strongest impression and will always be the first thing to come to mind whenever a reference to Nazism is made. So, it was tasteless of me and, yes, I regret it now. But life goes on. Regarding the posts from Joe and Vortex, we live on different planets and it would be pointless, and honestly a waste of good Qi, for me to address the debate further. But, Vortex, yes, I lay in the bed I make. No problems with that at all. Actually, I'm kind of lazy about making my bed in the first place... Also, yes, the photo is authentic. Search "Origins Pledge of Allegiance" and do some boning up. I've been viewing the US from a safe distance for 15 years and what I see from over here isn't necessarily the same things you see from inside. -

Tea Party Express Video- 11Apr10 in Michigan
soaring crane replied to Taiji Bum's topic in The Rabbit Hole
So, reading this, it looks like the only thing that really matters to you in the end, is money? I don't really believe that, but that's where you took it, for your own reasons. That's apparently the yardstick you use to measure the distance people have to go to "pursue their dreams". Dreams always have to involve cold hard cash? What if my dream is to live in a socially fair society that places high standards on ethics and quality of life? What about the people who prefer to work to live and don't see any use in a life wasted living to work? But that's all tangential to what I meant above. "Patriotism", I mean, "My country - love it or leave it", flag-waving, bombs-bursting-in-air, Pledge-Of-Allegiance, hand-on-heart, teary-eyed Patriotism - is an evil but useful tool that the powerful apply to keep the masses docile and manageable. It's the enemy of free-thought and free-will. And, yes, Germany is a place that learned the hard just where it can lead. The original American Tea-Party, circa 1935: -

soaring crane replied to Taiji Bum's topic in The Rabbit Hole
This is going to sound a little weird but I'm actually glad to be living in a country that had the Nationalism/Patriotism kicked out its culture. The only time in fifteen years I had to endure any flag-waving was during the World Cup in 2006, and that was more like huge party. Hey, btw, I was thinking that, and please don't take this too harshly because it's not meant that way, if you're really serous about the "be civil" and worry that you might have to "get protective", whatever that means, then maybe you shouldn't be posting videos on the www(?). -
