Qigong masters sharing their views of Meridians
soaring crane replied to bamboo's topic in Systems and Teachers of
Agreed, great thread. I think the myofacial skin would be a good addition to the discussion. It's the common thread connecting quite literally everything. Bones, muscles, organs, tendons... Everything.,... And it's the sea that the meridian rivers flow across. -
For me, the hexagram is a reminder that my life is a long journey with many stops along the way. I can look back and see from a distance the stops in the past that at the time caused me stress. I'd rather forget some of them, but, here I am, regardless of or due to those bumps in my path (and some of my bumps have been mountains). The important thing is recognizing that I didn't stayed mired in any of those sumps. And whatever problem I'm having now, in the future, there I'll be, regardless of or due to the current "catastrophe". Lu is movement through time (Fire) and space (Mountain). It's the movement that counts. So, in general, Lu has a soothing effect on me. It's a spiritual picker-upper. But that's just the first impression. The changing lines color the image and bring it close to the issue at hand. And then the future hexagram usually adds quite a bit to ponder. What were your changing lines?

that is awesome. I'm struck dumb that I missed it

In he xiang? It's called zifagong, that's all I ever heard it called anyway.
-
That's very interesting to me because Zifagong is the sixth figure of He Xiang Zhuang gigong -- Soaring Crane. It's the part that caused all the problems for the practitioners and eventually got the form banned in China. I practiced it for many years and had only very positive experiences. But I've been to workshops and seminars where people very nearly flipped out.

a crack in the track? why?

Morality of Physical Practices and the Dao
soaring crane replied to ganjaboy's topic in General Discussion
well, in fact, the body builder body isn't considered very healthy in the 'daoist' perspective. Just take a look at the average Chinese Taiji/Bagua/Xingyi/push hands/Qigong et al Sifu and you'll notice a common body type i.e. small frame, light, little muscle tone, with a paunch belly and big smile. Grab ahold of one of those little guys and you'll be surprised at how quickly they coil on you, like liquid steel, like a python snake. Better be prepared to apologise and bow quickly. I see it like this: More important than muscles are tendons and more important than tendons is the connective myofascial sack. Muscles are easy to work on. The other components of the body, not so much. To experience and express Dao, look into Taiji (or Bagua, Qigong, etc...)- 32 replies

I missed this first time round. No, absolutely not, as JB says. Those "stupid beginning exercises" are neither stupid nor beginner level. Can you do them? Is it such a challenge for you to do them that you give up in despair? If that's the case, how do you expect to successfully set the MOC in motion (something which can takes many years to reach)? I would guess that many people find these little accompanying "beginner" exercises a bigger challenge than the full-blown Master-of-Dao stuff they get into. The things is, without the ability to perform these smaller exercises correctly and dilligently, the practice at the higher levels will vary between ineffective, delusional, and unhealthy. Here''s another (serious) book recommendation: Baolin Wu Have fun massaging your ears :-)
