I don't often react to news of celebrity deaths but Robin Williams was a special person, one who I felt a connection to the first moment I saw him. He was Garp

why didn't any of these wise people take their own advice?

I have an anecdote, hot off the press as it only happened a couple weeks ago. A friend's mother-in-law was here visiting from the US. She got terribly sick after eating what turned out to be bad cheese at a pizzeria. Well, she wasn't just sick, she was virtually dying at my friend's house and when they called for an ambulance, she went into a panic, saying it'll bankrupt her. She didn't even want to go to the hospital at. She really may have died that evening, simply because of her fear of medical costs. Well, the ambulance was called and when the medics arrived, she actually dumped out her purse and wallet and was begging them to accept whatever cash she had on hand. The med's had no idea what she was going on about, and they got her into the ambulance, along with an emergecy doctor. She was on fluids immediately, spent the night in the hospital under observation, and had the standard tests for this situation. She was basically fine the next day but they kept her one more night just to be safe. Because she's uninsured, she was handed an itemized bill when she left -- €250,00 two hundred fifty Euro And that was for everything, including the excellent ambulance service. Contrast with my mother's friend who was taken to hospital in NY also a few weeks ago and got a bill from the ambulance company for $2,500, the base cost for an ambulance appearing at your front door. Yes, there's room for improvement in every system.

Hello, welcome and best of luck to you! :-)

haha, ok. But the visualization I described is dynamic and has a very functional aspect to it (and it's not new-agey at all). Think about the waves and where they're flowing, and the effect they have on the whole organism. A similar visualization is the little sailboat anchored on the sea, gentle waves coming from behind, lifting the stern, then the bow, up to the crest of the wave. When the wave leaves, it sets first the stern then the bow into the valley... the waves are the breath, the boat is the pelvis, the mast is the spine, the keel and the achor chain are the legs, the achor is the soles of the feet...

conjunction: a part of speech that connects words, sentences, phrases or clauses contraction: a shortened version of the written and spoken forms of a word, syllable, or word group, created by omission of internal letters (actually, sounds). What college was that again? -

Are there any high level qi gong masters/healers in Europe? Most seem to be in Asia or the US...

I like the information above, but wouldn't it be better to chart the four pillars and use the day master and it's relationship to the other pliiars to determine these things? -
definitely. I actually just made a short post here: http://thetaobums.com/topic/35791-what-practices-if-low-on-time-what-practices-day-to-day-what-activitieshabits-to-avoid-what-activitieshabits-to-do/?p=568477 But for you, I'd recommend arm-swinging exercises (and the self-massage for after your qigong practice). They're part and parcel of qigong practice and they are energy work, not gymnastics. I'll look for a youtube video that demonstrates what I mean... ok, this is pretty good. I don't do exactly this, but there are a bazillion variations on the theme: this is also classic qigong:

Is it customary for Mods to pick fights with regular members?

the most belligerent forums I've ever experienced were strangely enough at the old Runner's World website. It's been totally restructured now but about five years ago, it was an absolute cesspool of degenerate whackos; a moderator's nightmare. -

Dos and Don'ts. 1.What practice/s if low on time? 2.What practice/s day-to-day? 3.What activities/habits to avoid? 4.What activities/habits to do?

For five minutes: vigorous self massage, for example: rub palms together rub: shu points on lumbar spine; tailbone, mingmen (there are easy techniques for each of them) step forward, pound leg with fists top to bottom and back up to top, 3x. Step back, step out with other leg, repeat Pound out the arms with fists (inner arm from L1 to wrist, outer arm from hand to shoulder) 3x massage neck with open palms back of head/base of skull with fingertips 'drum' the whole head and face with finger tips vigorous ear massage finish with three gentle gathering arms movements/breaths close Dantien I find this kind of routine is absolutely crucial for those of us who spend a lot of time in a meditative state. And time and again I see people here with weakneses and health issues that I know would improve drastically if they simply got into the habit of a daily self-massage (twice daily, and with a variety of techniques). And besides, it fun!- 34 replies

Eliot is a Smörgåsbord This is the dead land This is cactus land Here the stone images Are raised, here they receive The supplication of a dead man’s hand Under the twinkle of a fading star. Is it like this In death’s other kingdom Waking alone At the hour when we are Trembling with tenderness Lips that would kiss Form prayers to broken stone.
