Ironically, the German word 'hell' means 'light' (opposite of dark. 'Light' as in the opposite of heavy is 'leicht'). I wonder if there's any correlation to the English 'hell'? German hell is 'Hölle' which sounds very similar when spoken. It's like going into the light = going to hell ... weird, never thought of that before.

Hi - do you have a warm up routine before practicing? And a self massage routine when you're finished?

Eating meat and the whole jazz around it. Was Sacrificing an act of love?

I agree with this for the most part (still love my olive oil, though), but there's one catch regarding cooking foods and that is always overlooked by raw food lovers. Forest fires are a normal, and necessary, part of the cycles of nature and the charred remains of animals killed in them have always been searched for and eaten by other animals, and by the earliest humans. That's how we came up with the idea of cooking meat in the first place (I've read, and it's a logical conclusion to make). Cooked food is obviously safer than raw, and I supposed it's just always tasted better, too. But that's an assumption on my part. -

!!!! Oh nooooo -
My sincere apologies to Tao of Buttercup -- I clearly misunderstood your comment and should have held back with my replies. But, there's no way to undo what's been done and so I just hope you can put the incident behind you and you don't feel that one boneheaded member represents the entire TaoBums community. You've made many positive contributions to the forums in your short time here, and I'm certain that many people would be disappointed and miss you if you were to leave.

No intentions to invade anyone, I promise In the original thread, I'd simply misread a comment, made an assumption, and added a poorly-considered reply. The thread that was created as a direct threat against me was rightly pitted/locked by someone else, while I was in bed (I'm on CET here, it was late). That move had nothing to do with hiding anything, nor with protecting me/covering my ass or anything like that; it's just basic moderating of a discussion forum. -
then why in the world would you bring up a myth like you did previously???
-
well... no. He's actually the pampered son of a real estate mogul who has managed to pull the wool over a lot of people's eyes. A genuinely loathsome excuse for a human being.

no, you didn't use the word 'filthy' which is why it doesn't appear in quotation marks in my post. It was my word. But your words certainly implied that attitude. I am American and last time I checked, not particularly self-loathing. And far from anti-American. I'm just anti-overreationary, if that's a word. I sense a lot of outside media influence in your reaction to the news that someone with ebola might appear on the US mainland. That was the focus of my first reply -- the media-driven panic. You don't need to ignore me (and you'll read this reply regardless) as I'm generally quite agreeable and in fact admire your contributions to the community so far. Your comments in this specific thread got a rise out of me and reading back, I feel that my reaction thus far has been justified.

Exactly. Why should we? Why should "we" not take it seriously until it hits Europe? Good questions. Point of reference -- finances are beginning to flow into serious research for a treatment (or total eradication of the disease) because weather conditions are becoming such that a return of malaria to the European continent seems likely. Why they waited till now ... well, no prize for guessing the answer to that one.
-
well, I'm sorry to have reacted the way I did but I found your post quite headless-chicken-reference-worthy. Do you understand that, if any of them ever actually make it to the west, the ebola patients will be heavily quarantined and under intense security? You have a far greater chance of being hit by lightning in your bathtub while posting to the Tao Bums on your tablet than you do of contracting ebola. Your little jab at the filthy 'undocumented immigrants' together with your agreement with a disgusting sociopath like Donald Trump pretty much put the lid on it for me. And I'm not sure where to go from here.
-
btw -- malaria vaccine coming soon. Why? Climate change is making it likely that it'll return to the 'civilised western world' within the next ten years or so. We can't have that, now, can we? White people with malaria? That's just not cricket.

no, we can't afford THAT, sorry.

haha glad it went over the way it was intended -
I believe the reason is that there aren't many hermetically sealed treatment centers in Sierra Leone: http://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/hamburg/UKE-bereitet-sich-auf-Ebola-Patient-vor,uke398.html It seems that the gentlemen who was scheduled to be flown to Hamburg is no longer able to travel. Also -- Donald Trump is the egomaniacal opportunist who will say anything to get attention. He went so far as to pretend to run for the presidency of the USA in order to drum up some publicity. His specialty is incendiary twitter posts -- see above. He's also my home-boy; I've been to his tower many times for lunch.

There's an ebola patient coming to the University clinic in Hamburg and the reaction here so far has been .... uh, none to speak of, mainly because we don't have a Murdoch-fueled media system in place here and people in general are capable of more critical thought than the average headless chicken. Calm down everyone, you're safe. Also -- Donald Trump is a creepily creepy creep.

His blog is a mess and his grammar and punctuation comically poor, but Patrick Sweeney is one of the most accomplished (and lovable) vegan athletes I know of. He's sponsored by Barefoot Ted MacDonald (Luna Sandals) and the Stone Brewing company :-) There are many, many vegans in the Ultramarathing community. The best-known is Scott Jurek, of course. -

This is from his website: "Maybe Steve Jobs had it right… ‘Think different.’ (Steve Jobs was widely known to practice a fruitarian diet) Most of us like labels. They give us a way to quantify, structure and define who we are as individuals. But just as Steve Jobs thought differently, so can you!" I don't think I'd use SJ as a billboard for the benefits of my eating habits. I feel he died needlessly thanks to his stubborn refusal of help that didn't fit his worldview. Still, the Frutarian is an incredible billboard all on his own. What really strikes me it the fantastic muscle tone achievable without an overabundance of protein intake. The body only needs quality raw materials to produce its own proteins, something the sports nutrition industries would prefer to keep secret. There are great examples from the rest of the animal kingdom -- gorillas, bears, steer, etc... muscle-packed, powerful mammals that take in very little to virtually no protein at all (bears prefer the fat from the salmon they catch, often leaving the stripped, meaty carcasses to the crows, foxes and other animals that follow them around). -

I assume you're aware of this guy: http://www.thefruitarian.com/ -
He used to be discussed more frequently, and generally considered to be a living translation mill. The quality of his translations is often called into question. I can't judge directly, but I've read enough opinions from people who are highly qualified to do so, and the consensus is consistently negative.

'a number of hermits in Malaysia' isn't what I was asking about. Is Wang Liping vegetarian? I know Jang Jwing-Ming isn't. And I had dinner twice recently with Lam Kan Chuen -- first time was at a gourmet steak house, and the next time was Greek, where he order a mixed grill platter with fries. -
