  1. New member, can't start new threads

There is no way to start a new thread from the homepage. You have to be ina specific forum first, maybe that's the confusion? Here are two screenshots. The first one is the full website, at the General Discussion Forum, and the second one is from the mobile version. Maybe you just have to scroll down a bit before you find the Start new thread button? Thumbnails, you have to click them:
  2. Normally, it's qi follows yi. In Zifa/spontaneous qigong, the order is reversed. It's easy to fool yourself and also easy to exacerbate preexisting mental conditions with Zifagong.
  3. Insomnia is down to lack of/broken qi?

well, in that case you just have to shove them in really far haha :-)

Hello Michaleen Oge, and welcome to the forums! Your membership is approved, happy to have you here :-) Please take the time to read the two posts pinned at the top of this Welcome page and take a look at the forum terms and rules. 11. Overwhelmed yet curious

Hello Colibri (Hummingbird, for the English speakers here), and welcome to the forums! That was a great introduction, thank you. You have one of the best Zhan Zhuang instructors in the world in your area - Peter den Dekker, look up his book "The dynamics of standing still", I'm sure you'll enjoy it, and gain a lot of insight from it. In the meantime: Please take the time to read the two posts pinned at the top of this Welcome page and take a look at the forum terms and rules. This covers all you need to know when getting started. 12. Insomnia is down to lack of/broken qi?

hey, I have another tip for Rara for getting a good night's sleep: earplugs. I use them sometimes and always sleep like a dead thing when I do. I've experimented and decided that these are the best: Howard Leight Max Lite
  13. What are you eating?

a medium-sized bowl of .... what should I call it? Glop comes pretty close. Black "Beluga" Lentil base with beef broth, assorted spices (cumin, tumeric, garlic, chili, etc) chunks of smoked salmon filet, tofu cubes, white balsamic vinegar, a little tomato paste ... and probably a couple things I'm forgetting. Oh, and a sizable pinch of dried Bhut Jolokia A big glass of hot water to wash it down. This is the kind of thing that nobody mooches off you when you eat it :-)
  14. @Lataif - that's a standard technique from qigong self massage. There are many more techniques. But they're an enhancement to practice and as stand-alone therapies not nearly as effective as the practice. Virtually any qigong will help balance, harmonize. That's what qigong does foremost.
  15. once you have both arms going at the same time, and are instigating the movement form the legs and torso, it certainly promotes crossover, in all the directions I mentioned above. But I think you need an instructor to bring you to the point that you're doing doing it with the whole body. If you learn from videos, you'll constantly be distracted by the arm movement (in my experience, anyway). This guy gives a good demonstration, watch what happens around the four-minute mark: The movements originated with Baguazhang. Kent Howard demonstrates more here:
  16. There's a vast assortment of qigong techniques that harmonize not only left/right but also top/bottom, front/back, inside/outside physical/mental and any other pairs there might be out there. A good place to start would be the classic teacup movements. I can write more later
  17. Extreme period pain

Regarding the meat eaters, I suggest getting TaoMeow involved in this. It occurred to me that I used to know a lot of very athletic women, marathon racers et al. And my sister is very atheltic, as are her two daughters. The effect of sports on menstruation is well-documented, and a cause for concern, too. Women who do a lot of sports very often have very mild periods, or virtually lose them altogether, and that's not a good situation for them. I think the inverse is probably true as well. Women who by their nature have very mild cycles may tend more toward athletics, because of their hormone balance. And they don't get bogged down avery couple of weeks, like my daughter does. So, as a way of alleviating some of the misery and maybe bringing some balance into her life, Dusty's sister could start a sensible exercise regimine?
  18. Favourite Staple Foods

Yes, Turkey is the main source of Western European exotic fruits. But they don't (can't) send out fruits that are oozing juicy ripeness to be sold in our supermarkets. To experience the real thing, you gotta go to the source :-)
  19. So you think you're human

I don't think that's an accurate description of the relationship, and I don't think there's any "possibly" about their influence on thought processes. The few human cells that we have are simply there to provide locomotion for the overwhelming majority of microorganisms that are always evolving, always developing new ways to get where they want to go. The thoughts we have are simply a vague interpretation of the vast intelligence that has ruled all life on Earth for as long as there's been life here. We all know what phemomones are, right? Sex hormones, the olfactory signal that we want to fuck and are looking for a partner to make babies with. The microorganisms on our skin (and on the skin of all vertebrates) trigger the production of pheromones. No microorganisms, no pheromones, no fucking, no children, no you, no me, no human race ... Who's really procreating here? You? Me? Our parents? Nope. It's those "bugs" that we can't see, but we know they're there. We do sense their power over us, however, and interpret as a supreme being, an omnipotent, omniscient presence in our lives. And there is no evil on that plane. Our death is merely a way of enabling them to leave their temporary home and move on, mingling with the others, mixing and matching and evolving. Pollution is great stuff, it provides an optimal breeding ground for them. That's why we produce it in the first place. What could be more counter-intuitive than shitting in your own bed? There has to be a profound reason behind pollution. Regarding DNA -- every cell that has a nucleus can store something like thirty megabytes of data. Every single cell on the planet, networked. That's a lot of storage space. Nothing ever gets lost (in the same way that "the internet never forgets", this organic harddrive hasn't forgotten anything for the past four billion years, it's all still there, and we can tune into it -- Yijing, yesssss). And the DNA angle puts viruses in the leadership role, the masters of life on Earth.
  20. Favourite Staple Foods

mmmmmm.... figs.... I never knew what a fig was supposed to look like or taste like until I travelled to Croatia. They were at the roadside stands, easily three times the size of the ones we see in the grocery stores here, and they oozed sticky fig juice when bitten into. Food of the gods, really. Delicious. That was like fifteen years ago and I still think about them!
  21. Extreme period pain

but that means that the people you've met who have had chicken pox have all been vaccinated against it. Am I understanding that correctly?
  22. Extreme period pain

I'm trying to get my head around the sentence structure here, but I think logic is getting in the way. I'm boiling it down to this: Ever met anyone who had chicken pox who had never been vaccinated? I would say everyone who has had chicken pox has never been vaccinated. Are you saying only those who have been vaccinated have later contracted the disease?
  23. Extreme period pain

That's terrible :-( My daughter has developed really heavy menstruation issues and we've been giving her this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemilla http://www.blessedmaineherbs.com/ourlamaalvu.html (that looks like a really good source for info and herbal products, especially for women http://www.blessedmaineherbs.com/womensherbs.html ) in tincture form. It takes a few cycles for it to kick in, and you have to take it consistently, but it does seem to have relieved a lot of her suffering on her last cycle. We're hoping for the best, poor kid. If your friend pratices qigong, there are special techniques for women, one of them being the reverse MCO. But imo these things don't really work beyond a mild placebo effect unless and until the person has considerable experience with the techniques.
  24. bum here

Hello tremblay, and welcome to the forums! Your membership is approved and we're happy to have you here :-) I went through a similar process and came to similar conclusions many years ago. The New Agers I met were mostly unaware of the source of their practices and knowledge, and, honestly, were never really interested in being healthy and happy. They revelled in their misery, so to speak, and made their fears into a hobby. Anyway, it doesn't have to be like that, Dao can be very simple.
