He's been clean for a long long time. That's his permanent conditions.

I'm not kidding about my friend. He was eating mushrooms for a long time, along with every other drug available, of course. But it was the mushrooms that did it. He writes things like that all the time, including on other people's statuses. The brother he mentions in that text has been dead for over twenty years

This is what mushrooms did to an old school friend of mine. He's fifty, and here's his facebook status from 14th April: I STEP OUT AND IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL OUT I HOPE IT'S NO TRICK BUT TODAY IT'S ACTUALLY FINALLY WARM OUT ALL DAY AND IT FEELS FANTASTIC WEARING JUST A T SHIRT AND TO ME IT'S LIKE A MIRACLE. SEEMS TO ME WE'VE HAD LIKE ONLY 3 MAYBE 4 IF EVEN SEMI WARM DAYS SINCE MID SEPTEMER? MID SEPT TO MAY 14TH IS A LONG COLD RIDE FOR ME. THERE ARE A FEW NICE DAYS VERY HERE AND THERE IT SEEMS FOR 8 MONTHS SEPT - APRIL BUT THERE ARE LOADS OF BLEAK FREEZING COLD DAYS WHICH WAY OUT NUMBER THE OCCASIONAL NICE DAY. MY GLASS PAN WINDOW FROZE AND FOR 8 EVERY SILVER KNOB HERE IN MY HOME WAS FROSTY AND IN THE MIDDLE PAGES OF A BOOK WERE COLD PAPER. I'M TIRED OF BEING HUNCHED OVER TRY TO COMPENSATE AND TRYING TO STAY "WARM." LOL LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME I CRACKED UP BRIEFLY AND I REMEMBER IT WAS WAY PAST ST PATRICKS DAY AND IT WAS LATE APRIL AND NO MAY YET AND IT WAS STILL TOO COLD OUT AND INSIDE THIS CONDO AND FOR 2 WEEKS I REMEMBER I DID MY MEAGER 40 HRS AT WORK EACH WEEK FOR THE 2 WEEKS AND I LAYED IN BED AND SEEKED NO O/T AT WORK. THIS YEAR I NEVER CRACKED YET MAYBE. ON THE NEWS THEY SAID IT'S GOING TO GET COLD OUT AGAIN 48 AND RAIN HEAVY WED ON THE FULL MOON. SO IT WILL GET WARM AND SOME HOW WARM IS TOO GOOD TO IMAGINE. IF SOME ONE SAID DO YOU MOVE TO THE FILIPINES OR FLORIDA AND YOUR NRBQ STUFF WILL BE MOVED SAFE I'D BE IN IN A SECOND TRUST ME. I LOVE SPRING AND EASTER SUNDAY IS A REALLY NICE DAY I LOOK FOWARD TO AND I ALWAYS WORK EASTER SUNDAY. THANKS DEB & ROB FOR THE KIND EASTER CARD THAT IS SO HAPPY AND COOL TO OPE THE MAIL BOX AND GET A CARD WHICH WAS SO KIND AND REALLY CHEERED ME UP AND STILL DOES THE CARD HERE! YOUR GREAT FRIENDS AND THANKS ROB AND DEB D! YOUR VERY SPECIAL TO US AND THANKS FROM ME, OFELIA AND TALL PAUL. I SAW MY SON AND MY BROTHER TOGETHER TODAY IN MY CRIB FOR LIKE 15 MINUTES AND THEY BOTH MAKE ME HAPPY AND THOSE TWO BOTH LOOKED GREAT AND THATS A VERY GOOD THING! A GOOD VIBE. I LOVE MY BROTHER AND MY SON. CHECK OUT THE LES CLAYPOOL WINERY ON FACEBOOK. I HEARD THE BAND KINGSOFLEON ON 107.1 FM THE PEEK FOR YOUR BACK YARD SOUND ON THE CAR RADIO DRIVING UP ROUTE 303 VALLEY COTTAGE AND I ALWAYS LIKE DID AND DO LOVE THE BAND THE KINGS OF LEON AND I LOVE BAND BLACK MOUNTAIN WITH THAT GREAT DRUMMER. Deep long dantian breathing, relaxed relaxed relaxed. ... Zero energy movement / visualization / internal work etc, just long slow deep breaths That can help too, but not in one day. patience is going to have to be a virtue (I think)

well, they can't use pork and real lamb is expensive, and beef is just wrong. So, the standard is turkey/lamb mix though some places have pure lamb, which costs a bit more. I do trust the quality here. The biggest supplier is Eura Döner and they put a lot of effort into keeping the standards high. I eat them a couple times a week, but nine out of ten times I buy vegetarian 'Durum' with Feta cheese. Durum is the thin pide that is then rolled like a wrap. There's more content and less bread. Hmmm... feeling a bit peckish as it is ... Gyros is disgusting, and the meat is fatty pork that they can't sell in their Greek restaurants.

Our own Taomeow has consented to do an interview. Q's..
soaring crane replied to thelerner's topic in Interviews
This one interests me Of course, she already has an interview forum Three questions off the top of my head: 1. Is there something in the air or water or both in Russia that fosters genius, or is it the educational system, the classical music, or what? I know quite a few Russians here and the difference is palpable. 2. Can you put in a nutshell, say five short points, ways to identify Buddhist influence on the Daoist method? 3. Will you ever write a book? You have tons of material right here in the TTB archives. 4. What you consider the three most essential books on the subject of Daoism? (books available in English, unfortunately) 5. Likewise, your top three authors (specifically on Daoist subjects or maybe two list one Daoist and one wide open) 6. What's your favorite color? Favorite food? Favorite music? Favorite favorites? -
Thanks for the reply! I'm curious about something more specific - was it the loss of 'individual identity' that got to you most? Did you have trouble with the collective mindset? Also, have you seen this: The 4 strangest things nobody tells you about life in China Or maybe you wrote it? haha One last question - what do you teach?

I'm not saying that it is or isn't, I have no idea. But, it can take months for the effects of real overtraining to begin subside. And then years to build back up your fitness. It a wide-open field with no real hard research, just a huge body of anecdotal evidence and advice. I was very active at the Runner's World forums at the time and learned more there than from any doctor or therapist. What triggers over training is an extended time in the anaerobic pulse range. And the 'cure' that I found was low heartrate training. I had my heart monitor on like 24/7 for a long time, a few months. I used the formula and methods from Phil Maffetone: http://www.philmaffetone.com/ I'm over it now, except that fast-pace, high HR running it out, except for short spurts.

That's the UK. We have much higher quality here. I know because I've been told by British visitors. The kebab stands have signs telling the customer what kind of neat it is. Turkey, mostly (kind of funny in English haha)

except for the red dick and social issues, I see a lot of parallels between your symptoms and an episode of 'overtraining' that I went through a few years ago. It came from running. I was running a lot, training very, very hard, at much-too-fast paces for my actual condition, for a long time, about three years straight. It got to the point where I couldn't come down anymore. Pulse wouldn't come to rest, couldn't sleep, couldn't do any kind of exercise without instantly going into high-rev mode. And my thoughts were racing at warp speed. I know that sounds nothing at all like Kundalini, and it probably isn't really. BUT the background story is that that kind of extreme exercise flips a kind of switch that puts the body and the mind into permanent 'survival mode'. I'm convinced that the switch is in the dna. It's like you've been chased by a tiger non-stop (in my case, for a couple years) and your whole system just says, damn, can't sleep, can't stop to relax, gotta stay alert, nothing else in the world matter, that tiger is going to get us! Run! The hormonal system goes nuts, and that is the connection that I see to what you're experiencing. I'm certain that you're glands are confused and trying to do things that don't fit into a normal lifestyle. And yeah, come to think of it, I was pretty miserable company at that time, too, with mood swings and almost bipolar episodes.

That's how I remember it, too. Those were the days ... Kunloonies etc ... I think, though, going back to your original reply, it's also possible to get too hung up on the 'authenticity' and 'lineage' angle. And many, many, many people simply do not live in a location that affords them access to a choice of instructors. I think the wrong advice in that situation is, 'do nothing, don't even start'.

very lovely music in this thread, thank you. There's an artist that calls himself "aeoliah", maybe some of you have heard of him. He created what for me is one of the most special recordings I've heard in my life. We use the last song of this CD in the singing bowl therapy, after the session, for eight minutes of dancing with angels. One of the reviewers at amazon said the music sometimes elicits tears because it's so beautiful, and really is like that. The 'best' song is the fourth one, the title track, but it isn't posted to youtube. I won't comment about the rest of aeoliah's music except to say this album is a rare highlight Here's the amazon link to the album: Majesty here's a youtube of one of the other songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO1hkCGhz3w

Hi and welcome! If you have the time and inclination, could you post some details about your China experience? Thanks!

you had me scrolling up and down looking for a post by bubbles!

I can't, youch!!! But the wife had her amalgam replaced and did the tinfoil test - no pain. That makes eating Döner Kabap much less risky.

I agree, I much prefer to read people's personal understanding of these things as opposed to repeats of the information we get from books and webpages and seminars About 'flowing backwards', there isn't really any 'flow' to begin with. It's just changing concentrations. All of them are there always, like family members (probably the best kind of illustration, but takes too long to write out) at a picnic. The fire mingling with wood, and 'reverse flow' in general, is 100% part of the model. But I can't sum that up here for you. And, even though i just wrote that thing about books and webpages and seminars, It would be better if you take a look at the wiki page to get a basic, classical, understanding first: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Xing One thing to ponder when thinking of 'reverse flow' - can the past be changed? Does the study of history actually change the events that came before?
-
Just want to mention that 'elements' is a somewhat weak misleading word to describe this. Think of five notes in a pentatonic scale. Now hear all those notes being played at the same time. Now raise the volume on one of those notes so it becomes the clearly dominant note in the mix, but the other four are still ringing below it, albeit at varying intensities. Now understand that when one note is raised in volume, it take a while for it to swell, and then it reaches its pinnacle before it begins to fade, and then the next note begins to swell and dominate the chord. That's also a weak image, though, because each phase in the Wuxing has a much more distinctive character than any musical note. But the basic idea is there. Each phase is a unique combination of the same basic ingredients, with one of the ingredients in pointedly stronger concentration.

Hi again - I just ordered the German-language book (meaning, I filled out the order form and got an email autoreply telling me that I'll be informed about methods of payment shortly haha). Thanks again for the tip edit - forgot to mention that I looked at amazon.de and there's a copy for sale for €118!

Plants that can learn and remember?
soaring crane replied to BaguaKicksAss's topic in General Discussion
Nice read. But of course, the most intelligent of all plants is the common cauliflower:
