There was another study released just last week, IIRC, about the mental benefits of hatha yoga. That is just one of a zillion alternatives--not my favorite, but obviously a popular choice. I'm not going to list them all. When we set out to fix others, this can sometimes be an excuse to remake them in our own image. IOW, "healing" can be an act of vanity and insincerity. To restate in the form of banal advice: don't be naughty.

There are so many ways to improve one's life. Why counsel your friend to start with meditation, if he is predisposed to something else? Is such advice to his benefit, or to your own?

I'd like to take a moment to respond to the anonymous trolls visiting my site, coming from this forum... If you want to worship a false idol, that's OK. If you want to learn about Taoist mind-body cultivation, that is OK too. But if you choose an idol who died at 33, of self-inflicted "misadventure", then you are clearly suffering from cognitive dissonance--and should seek psychological help rather than spewing profanities on the Internet. As Bruce might have said: Don't waste yourself.

"Efficiency" is a not an issue here. What WC outsiders derisively call "trapping" only happens in WC semi-freestyle sparring (i.e. playing around), and it happens when two WC people compete for the line. Even then, "trapping" is a poor description of the action and the intent. This is my experience FWIW. Outside of a training context, WC is not heavy on trapping, it is heavy on beatings. But I'm sure you all knew that.

Is anyone in this thread familiar with the circumstance known as "double jeopardy"? Well, I can see that you are familiar with it...but do you recognize it?

Without disagreeing with the rest, I will inform everyone that acoustic levitation is not only possible, but even a bit mundane. It's on video, so you know it must be true.

With all due respect, a martial arts instructor who cannot control himself is not accident-prone, he is negligent.

There is no such thing as "internal martial arts"... ...but so long as we are pretending, I'll share the real-life conversation that one of Leung Sheung's disciples kindly reported to me. Student: Is Wing Chun an "internal family" art? Yip Man: No.

Ni Hua-Ching / Nan Huai-Ching

Why would the Diamond Sutra need an explanation, I thought? But I get the book anyway and was pleasantly surprised, as it is a very entertaining read. I was less impressed with Tao and Longevity. YMMV. -
I am not and do not claim to be a Tantrapa expert, but I do find it hard to believe that he fled the country over a misspelling. Did they sneak some "bad speller" penalties into the Patriot Act?

He explained his reasons for moving ito Guam in his newsletter; it seems unfair to imply he is "on the run". And "SIBUD" is actually Subud, I presume.

I've been popping in every few months to browse the latest discussions, but haven't yet thrown my own hat into the ring. Anyway, here I am...not sure what is required by way of introduction...check my profile or website if you need the details.
