Why does reiki make spiritual progress exponentially faster?
Seth Ananda replied to Oneironaut's topic in General Discussion
There is no exponential growth in Reiki. Its more like diminishing returns. It gives you a good grace period with a big jump in ability (if you are new to this stuff) and once the more basic stuff like channels opening, getting good heat coming through and possibly triggering some nifty inner experiences is done, it slows right down. After that each new and seemingly smaller achievement is only won through practice practice practice. Over the years it can still all add up to a pretty solid practitioner. I want to add though that I have seen some pretty miraculous healings over the years, and exactly none of them have been from Reiki. Comparing Reiki 'Masters' and the couple of weekend workshops they did to Qigong Masters and their years and years of practice in deeply sophisticated multifaceted traditions, is like comparing a macdonalds burger to something on Master-chef except the master chef meal can also set things on fire with its mind. Qigong also requires constant practice, but if you find a good one, wow! Its hard to know what the limit is, if one exists, in how far it can take you. -
Zhuan Falun (Turning The Law Wheel)
Seth Ananda replied to EnergyGem's topic in Systems and Teachers of
There have been a lot of threads on Falun and its seriously loony leader, and its cult activities which I experienced first hand. Also I think this might be better to be posted in general discussion? -
I just ask people how they like to spend their time, or what they are into?

The opposite of Love is not Hate...
Seth Ananda replied to noonespecial's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
I find myself a lot more suspicious of binary thinking these days. I tend to think of it as a false set of lenses that we impose on our mind and force it to interpret and perceive through and via. It seems to really hedge in thinking and make people simplistic and often stupid. Look at hot and cold for instance. They are not two fixed opposites. They are a spectrum of temperature that actually exist on the same line as each other. if they were opposite, at which temperature? Is a little hot opposite to incredibly brain numbingly freezing? What if we instead say that really hot was opposite to really cold would make what the center? Room temp? Body temp? Zero degrees? They are all arbitrary designations. Here in Australia, warm weather in Melbourne feels cold to someone from the N.T. Lets look at fear. People sometimes relate it to contraction. It certainly contracts blood vessels in the viscera and the thinking parts of the brain, but it increases blood flow to the extremities ready for flight or fight, which is not contraction. Love sometimes gets described as expansion, or the liberation of contraction, but love can be protective as well. Well I guess my point is I don't think opposites work very well to describe the world. -
I found it to be so incredibly boring. Basically written by a verbally obtuse new ager who thinks they are a shaman.

What online shop do you know for natural, handmade, warm monk-like robes?
Seth Ananda replied to 4bsolute's topic in General Discussion
Nice outfits. If your looking for more still, of the monk variety, it might be wise to check that dressing as a monk is not insulting to adherents of the tradition who's robes you have borrowed. Some cultures have strict taboo's about emulating monks, and while you probably won't get dim-maked by a monk, you may get an earful from irate students. -
Why are so many Men posting in Nuwa, the Female sanctuary?
Seth Ananda posted a topic in General Discussion
I have just been reading some threads in Nuwa, which clearly says Women Only, and it is overflowing with comments and posts from males. Not only that, there are men debating with the women there, which seems to defeat the purpose of calling it a sanctuary in the first place. It just seems disrespectful to me, that's all. Unless of course a man was invited by women there to relay something, but that does not seem to be the case. Are the men here that desperate to be seen as teachers or guides to women, that they have to follow them into a womens only section to tell them how its done? Maybe i'm missing something but I am curious how the women here feel about the invasion?- 73 replies

Why are so many Men posting in Nuwa, the Female sanctuary?
Seth Ananda replied to Seth Ananda's topic in General Discussion
Wow, look at me go for it! I am really hacking men to bits here: Sorry the actual link looks like a banner to me. My mistake. The mistake continues. not really that terrible however. Not to mention that I had just read a woman asking why men were posting in there! So it seems a few people did not know about the sub sub forum. That is a bit cheekier but you may note that it is posed as a question. A biting question however, and for that I apologize. Ohh, asking for more information, but still laboring under the mistaken impression thats its a womens only area. OH MY GOD!!!! MAN BASHING!!!!! MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNN BAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSHHHHHHING!!!- 73 replies

Why are so many Men posting in Nuwa, the Female sanctuary?
Seth Ananda replied to Seth Ananda's topic in General Discussion
Not now as I understand the layout and think it is a good idea. But if they were posting in a womans only section, or if women were posting in a men only area, I would have problem with it. 'Womans only' or 'Womens Sanctuary' means no men, and vice versa. lol.- 73 replies

Why are so many Men posting in Nuwa, the Female sanctuary?
Seth Ananda replied to Seth Ananda's topic in General Discussion
This is rather hilarious, but off topic and probably counts as a personal attack. I don't mind being called a white knight, as I am pretty sure there is 100% chance I will receive no sex for any of this, and that is in no way my motivation or expectation or desire. The Idea of being 'rewarded' with sex is repugnant to me, and none of the women I am attracted too are women who need rescuing, or are sex vending machines. But this 'white knight' label that MRA's love to use anytime anyone defends a woman, is really a form of subtle sexism itself. The hidden attitude is "we should have the right to castigate, abuse or be total misogynists to woman, and no man anywhere may stick up for or defend them, lest he be totally written off as merely a white knight. Its kind of the end of chivalry when labels like that are thrown about at anyone who seeks to defend someone other than themselves. I will happily defend anyone against injustice, and I think its a fairly sick individual who won't. Also defending someone does not mean that they are weak and helpless. Warriors will rush to each others aid at a moments notice, because they are brave and loyal individuals, and the good ones rail at any form of injustice.- 73 replies

What gives us the Ability to <fill in the blanks>
Seth Ananda replied to dwai's topic in General Discussion
I might be entering this convo a bit late. But I see reasoning as coming from our ability for abstraction, our ability to think about thinking. But what allows us to think? I cant see how something can think without consciousness, as consciousness is there between and behind the thoughts that are happening, and any meditator or sunbaker will be well aware that thinking can cease temporarily. But what about the whole consciousness awareness thing? What is it? In my self examination, the type of consciousness that moves around, that focuses on things and excludes other things, I call that awareness. Awareness weirdly is also very influenced by language, belief, prejudice, like and dislikes. This has been demonstrated over and over again with tests on peoples perceptual filters, the things they notice, edit out or read into the simple act of observing. But there is another type of consciousness that awareness exists within. When my awareness is busy focusing on my keyboard typing to you motley lot, it tends to be excluding a bunch of other stuff. like my foot. Was not really thinking about it. Then Baxter my pet scorpion - the little bastard - comes up and stings my heel! Well, the deeper consciousness was already aware of that, and the scorching pain brings awareness back to my foot really bloody quickly. I take a minute to drop the bugger into a bottle of rum, but then afterwards me and my awareness come back to the keyboard, once again focusing on you guys and forgetting about the conscious background. The question is, and is one that starts to obsess people who meditate, is just what is that conscious background? It does not seem to really change or alter unlike the constantly shifting awareness. Chemical induced personality shifts don't alter it. hypnotherapy does not seem to alter it. Trance states don't seem to alter it. Loosing body parts does not seem to alter it either. How far does it go? Certain experiences can make it seem unending and all pervasive. They however are experiences where the awareness itself, that changeable thing suddenly dilates out in what it is capable of being aware off, right back (seemingly) to a deep awareness of consciousness as being all encompassing. Is it really? Who knows, and I doubt that that is something that can be proven, but its certainly worth checking out for yourself. P.S. No animals were hurt in the making of this post.- 87 replies

What things do you most hate the idea of loosing or of not being able to do anymore? Imagine something could suddenly be completely removed from the universe, then gone forever! What thing/s do you dread seeing disappear?

People have mentioned some great things already. I would add a few things that have been greatly nourishing to me: Change things up. Really experience diversity regularly. Regularly go to suburbs you know nothing about. Find out where a safe place to sleep is in an underground tunnel or cave. Wander aimlessly. Go to a boxing ring and ask to have an actual fight. If your already a boxer go to a kyokushin class and fight. Spend a few weeks attending a church, then a mosque, then somewhere else. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Ask to have a police drive along. Go to speed dating or other strange dating parties. Sleep with someone outside your sexual orientation. Explore BDSM. Travel to remote locations. Live on the street without money {that you bring with you} for a week. Attend an autopsy and watch a cremation. Study the various mystical experiences people of the world describe, and try to imagine what having those experiences does to a person, and then seek to experience them yourself. Then when you have them, try to consider several ways of viewing them. Sure, the experience is real, but what about the interpretation of the experience? Then try to have it again. Take full advantage of adult learning centers, painting classes, other languages, anything that seems interesting, horrible or unusual. Read all kinds of books. Both fact and fiction. Derrick Jensen's 'A Language Older than Words' may fuck you up and elate you at the same time but you will be richer for it. Read the cream of the right and left wing thinkers. Noam Chomsky. Alain De Benoist. Then go stay in poor areas or with a poor family. Then the rich. Hang out with immigrants. You get the picture. Do anything to not ossify, as ossification is the enemy of fullness.

Why are so many Men posting in Nuwa, the Female sanctuary?
Seth Ananda replied to Seth Ananda's topic in General Discussion
Groan, you know so much for someone so new here. The subforums have worked very well here. General discussion used to be mayhem. Now Taoists, Buddhists, Hindu's, Men, Women and Occultists can discuss unmolested, in peace and can have constructive conversations without all the haters. Then they are also free to post in General Discussion when they want a broader discussion with the wild and woolly general public. Emotional confrontation, and abuse can be very damaging. Really? There are far more male members of the TTB's. A number of women reported finding the atmosphere here quite oppressive back in the day. Who are you to say what disempowers women? Womens groups have been a crucial healing and empowering environment for countless women. Anyway why am I explaining myself to you? This thread and topic is not about you and your ideas. Get on topic or get out, as I am going to start reporting you for trolling and thread derailment any Minuit now.- 73 replies

Why are so many Men posting in Nuwa, the Female sanctuary?
Seth Ananda replied to Seth Ananda's topic in General Discussion
Yes there is a Mens forum, a Buddhist forum, a Hindu forum and Occult forum... If someone really wants one they can probably get one. Please try to stay on topic. I helped spearhead the move that got those forums created, and I have not looked till then. I was curious how it was going, and saw a bunch of stuff from men there. I was not there to comment as it is not my place to comment. That is why I posted it in general. The shit women have had to deal with on this forum from certain men here, and the shit storm that ensued from trying to get proper forum rules in place to disallow marginalizing, sexist or hateful comments towards any group led to the creation of those subforums. Anyway, hopefully Jetsun is right.- 73 replies

Why are so many Men posting in Nuwa, the Female sanctuary?
Seth Ananda replied to Seth Ananda's topic in General Discussion
I asked as it says 'Women Only' which is really quite specific, and one of the threads has a woman asking why Men are posting there. I felt like I should ask as there is always the chance that people wont speak up when outnumbered so heavily. From what I remember of the decision to make the mens and womens forums in the first place, it was to give a space for each to explore among themselves where they don't have to justify or answer to members of the opposite sex. Anyway It would be good to hear from the women, as it concerns them and their space. The Men replying here with stupid stuff are off topic, and their opinions mean nothing as it is clearly not their space we are talking about considering it says 'Women Only"- 73 replies

As an Animist I experience that the earth {and everything else} is deeply sentient and en-souled. Within the earths sentience {and all the other large sentient beings we live within} I experience an incredible, Awe inducing, terrifying, gentle, horrific beautiful Love. I sense that it loves me completely and utterly, but with the kind of love that can only come from something that loves everything completely and utterly. It loves everything so much it lets everything be exactly as it is. It Loves the children that dance in the fields, it loves the diseases that eat away the flesh, it allows us to experience every indignity and suffering, and every joy and pleasure. It allows it all to exist and to impact on or be impacted by anything else. I find this to be amazing and freeing in a way that is hard to describe. But I also find that it is beautifully responsive to those that deeply enter into a relationship with it, that become reciprocal and relational with it, and that a great flow of blessings, luck and incredible experiences flow towards those who love it in return and open themselves to communication with it. Of course we will still all die at the end, as the forces of life and death strip away our worldly agency as we approach the maw of destruction. But I welcome that passage, and also realize that the great openness that things exist within also exists within me, and does not seem to change or waver in any meaningful way. It allows me to face whatever horrors and degradation life and aging may bring with a degree of happiness, dignity, connectedness and meaning that would not be possible for me otherwise.

Kundalini Awakening verses Spiritual Awakening
Seth Ananda replied to Kiwi Ninja's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
I agree with this, except possibly for the consciousness being an energy. No, this is incorrect. It sounds like you are talking about moving sexual energy. That is not kundalini. No. Kundalini is not semen, eggs, sexual fluids or ojas. It is fiery divine energy and can not be depleted. You cant run out of kundalini because it is not really personal energy. But those energies and fluids can assist the awakening of K.
