  1. Daoist Nei Gong by Damo Mitchell

It's interesting that he uses the name Damo, but is teaching Daoist practices. He must be eclectic, like many of us here (including me)...
  2. My Last Post

I'm sorry to see you go, 5ET. I always found your perspectives and posts interesting. No one can create anything new and not expect to receive criticism and doubts from others. Even if they've put a great deal of thought and effort into it. Good luck to you. "Thus shall you think of this fleeting world: A star at dawn, a bubble in a stream, A flash of lightning in a summer cloud, A flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream." (The Diamond Sutra)
  3. My Sad Story

Obviously, this is not More Pie Guy. It is probably the con artist that owes him $100!
  4. Your Favorite Martial Art

In my opinion, this is clearly the most sublime and effective martial art of all:
  5. Across the globe, pieces of paper are trembling in fear at their imminent combustion...
  6. Rooting

Regarding the "going barefoot" discussion a few pages back, this book may be of interest: Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever? The author does sell a product line (grounding rods, mattress pads, etc.), so there is an element of hype, and the research isn't gold standard, but the general concept sounds intriguing.
  7. The 256 year old man

There's an English translation of his writings by Stuart Alve Olson: Qigong Teachings of a Taoist Immortal: The Eight Essential Exercises of Master Li Ching-yun Olson also has a six hour workshop on DVD about this: Eight Brocades Workshop DVD
  8. 1959

There are examples of groups which attempted to use "special powers" in combat against armed opponents. It didn't work. One would be the Boxer Rebellion in China, which took place around 1900. There was also a group in Africa called the "Lord's Resistance Army" which used child soldiers, and convinced them that they would become bulletproof through various rituals. There are probably many other examples. I don't doubt that strongly held spiritual beliefs could help someone become a better fighter. However, superior firepower and tactics usually win the battle.
  9. Eckankar?

She probably didn't have anything to do with Eckankar , but I think that she was influenced by the same type of Sant Mat Sikh teachings that Eckankar drew from, meditations on inner sound and light...
  10. Eckankar?

I don't know much about the original Sikhs that this type of "sound and light" practice began with, but their progeny appear to be rather strange: Sri Darwin Gross Sri Gary Olsen Supreme Master Ching Hai ("God's Direct Contact")
  11. Is Gov. Rick Perry the Devil?

For what it's worth, Perry has been vetted by the Bilderberg Group. He appeared there at the 2007 meeting, I think. So I would view him more as a tool of demonic forces, rather than the Shaitan himself. Just like someone else from Texas.
  12. Moderation at the tao bums

Mal, thanks for all your contributions to the Bums over the years. Sorry for all the abuse you've been getting here lately (and not so lately). Its' a tough position to be in. You've always seemed like a voice of reason to me. Well, at least you'll have more time to practice now (which some of the keyboard warriors on here should consider doing!). If I remember correctly, TTB was started by refugees from the old Healing Tao forum, who were unhappy with something or other over there. (I lurked for many years before getting a home computer). There were some extremely wild characters around back then, like Ron Jeremy and Plato, and they had a lot more free rein and less moderation (I think that Sean did all the moderation himself back then). Over time, more structure and additional moderators were added, leading to a more civil environment. Maybe those that are disgruntled by the way that Sean administers his forum should leave to start a new forum, much as he and the early Bums did years ago...personally, I'm fine with it the way it is.
  13. Hello Tux, I haven't seen this one yet, so I can't comment on it's quality, but the decription sounds like it could be of interest to you: Morning Qigong Practices by Mantak Chia

  17. When I first saw the title of this thread earlier today, I thought to myself "I bet that there will be 150 responses by this time tomorrow." I really underestimated them, they will probably reach that number in less than 12 hours. Can you imagine how many there would be if Vajrahridya was around?
  18. John Chang vs Buddha

Clearly, Grandmaster Li Hongzhi could take on both of them with his hands tied behind his back!
  19. Hi Cheya, I was interested in Tai Chi Ruler also, and purchased this dvd after your recommendation. It does seem to induce a nice feeling of qi flow over all. I do the movements more slowly than they show on the dvd, and try to coordinate the movements with breath. I don't have the sensitivity to really differentiate qi flow in the various channels, but experience it more holistically. In my own practice, I've been doing the Tai Chi Ruler right after Primordial Qigong (the one where you gather qi from the four directions), sort of in accordance with Dr. Jahnke's model phases of "Gathering" and "Circulating" qi. It seems to be a good combination. I've also obtained some materials (dvd and book) on the Feng Zhiqiang version, which I think is 13 movements, but I haven't begun to study it yet. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the form.
  20. Sifu Chris Matsuo

Hi zerostao, so far I have only been to a half day qigong (not Kuan Yin Magnetic) workshop with him, which was very good. I do hope to learn more from him in the future, but my schedule hasn't meshed with the dates of his courses so far. He is very knowledgable and has studied with many notable teachers. He even met Yogananda when he was a kid.
  21. Sifu Chris Matsuo

I just saw the DVD listed on E-Bay. With such high praise from Trunk, I may check it out too: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kuan-yin-boddhisattva-meditation-qigong-Dvd-/260466968497 There is also a very interesting teacher down here in Florida, Sunyata Saraswati, who teaches this form. He will be teaching it in New York City next month: Shen Tao Innergy Arts (scroll down) He also wrote a popular book about tantra, "The Jewel in the Lotus".

  23. The Jade Emperor's Mind Seal Classic

Yes, great stuff; a very interesting post. I just ordered the book after reading it...
  24. Is tulku the same person as bodyoflight? I thought he was going off to the Himalayas to cultivate his state of perfection. How fortunate we are that he has chosen to remain here instead, and save all sentient beings from having fun!
  25. John Chang vs Buddha

Since John Chang can ignite pieces of paper with his special powers, isn't it obvious?
