You crack me up

Sure, but then you will be surprised why, even though you have such a wonderful appendix, women still ignore you. A friend of mine was playing with this game of changing the phrases that we run in our head and that make up (our?) reality. He wasn't very lucky with grils, so he worked extensively on "I have sex with all the women I desire". Due to my work, and the fact that I am rarely in Rome, I happened not to see him for more than 6 months. When I saw him again, I asked how was it proceeding, if he was having much luck. He answered. "No, but you see, I don't seem to even have such a big desire for women anymore". I laughed really strong! 8) "So. you asked to the universe to have sex with all the chicks you wanted, and the universe complied, only that , instead of changing the behaviour of all the females on the planet (because your desire had no limits, and you know it) which would have been a major reconstruction, it changed YOU. And now you have no desire anymore. Fine the spell worked". His face lightened with novel understanding, jumped on the scooter saying: "I just remember I have something to do. See you". Last time I saw him we had little time. He was too busy with dates. BTW, pay attention when you play this game, I just heard from Bruce that the Karmic cost is... let's say... HIGH Pietro

Now that the software have been probably found and the name probably too, it's time to start thinking about the internal structure and extra ideas we want to install. Those ideas will eventually be the one that make this site much better than all the others. ( haha  loosers). Here are some. I noticed that is possible to have the same thread be present in more than one forum. This is brilliant... because: If something is present in more than one thread than it can be present in ALL THE THREAD that pertain to it. In other words, if someone is discussing under the thread "mental health" how to deal with fixed thoughts... and someone answer to it from the diet point of view, and the discussion continues from the diet point of view in relation to mental health, then the thread should be in both in the "mental health" thread and in the "diet" thread. Personally I would like to see at least one forum for the water method, and I suppose we should have a forum for each major school (Energy Arts, Healing Tao/Universal Tao, ...) Then some discussion will be contained in that forum ( Should I go to London to the Kan And Li workshop?...) And other will be spreading across forums (The effect of Kan and li respect to the ego, goes both in the HT and in the Stillness Forum. But then as someone suggests another remedy from "energy arts" it also should be copied in the "water method" forum). This permit to people to only follow the forum they are interested in, knowing that eventually if something is relevant it will be copied there. In short I think we should try to avoid to create a division of our experience in separated entities (a partition in math terms). Essentially because a) it is impossible, most post touch most topics every thread start somewhere, but eventually goes round and round, touching many many topics. This would also be a way of tagging discussion (instead of classificating it), will avoid people getting nervous because:("hey, you are going off topic!"), and will be something very new (virtually unheard that I know of) in the world of discussion groups. I don't think only one person can do all this work. Reading the F.A.Q of the site, it seem that to move a thread you need to be an administrator. So, even for this my suggestion would be that we have many (shouldn't we be all) administrators. Just some basic ideas Pietro

I should be away for about one week. Off to London. If you need to decide the name in the meantime, for me I like TaoBums.com if not any other name non self flattering names are ok. Nothing like BestTaoistDB, but yes to TaoDrunks etc...

Max, is not that I want to be Administrator, it is that I don't want (or better that I fear) having someone above me, taking decisions that will affect me. I got pissed that James deleted my post, especially since I was not going against any rule, just because was not playing along his Agenda. Now James is a personal friend for me. I know him, we've chatted in Thailand in the evening, and we have many friends together. The idea that James did this is for me a prove that you should trust no one to be above their personal agenda. Not even me. So I don't want one person to decide, or to be pleaded, or asked to make a change. Either we decide together, and then, only after the decision is sealed (decision: anyone against, going 1, going 2, going 3, GONE!) the administrator carries out as we decided. Or we should all have equal responsability. I call it down up administration, it does work. It's often hard to nail down, but it definitly does work. For me I would put anybody who has been in the board for at least one year as an administrator. So anybody can become one. Regarding your other part of the post, I answered you extensively on the other post inb this thread. Pietro

Yes, I have and use gmail too. But gmail have taken from delicious. So please play with that a bit. The difference is that in gmail you have to apply the labels yourself. In delicious, you do your part, but everybody else does it too. Is the wiki of the tag system (and here we go again)! It seem that we have two necessities to mingle. On the one side we want to have one folder, with the possibility to see everything at the same time (that's why we organised the threaded view, right?), and we have some obvious difficulties in dissecting a body (the taoist body, hehe) which is obviously one thing. On the other side we want to be able to find all the posts about a certain topic. But more than that, we want to be able to find all the thread that contains lateral references to our topic. Something that cannot be done automatically. It's not just that B.K.Frantzis is the same as bruce and is the same as b.k., because it is also the same as 'the other school from california that dissolves". And the possibilities are endless. So the only solution is to have a tagging system. Like the one used by gmail, but such that anybody can add tags and assign tags. It would be sad and impractical if only few people could assign what tags can be used, or what tags do a certain post depend to. Only in this way is not going to be anybodys full time job, as the load will be spread among everybody. I don't know how hard should it be to modify the code to insert a tagging system, but if Sean is willing to look at the code (and me? Plato? Max? or anybody else) it might be that is just few lines of hack. After all is just to apply an extra DB table (according this uses MySQL) that connects posts and threads. Or something similar. P.

Shall we wait a bit longer and use the power of the first yang? The first hour after the winter solstice. We could meet at the solstice, and as the yang start to rise we link to it our site.

Michael wrote a post explaining what has happened. Unfortunately in the meantime James was deleting any post that was pointing to here. Woops. So here is my suggestion, let's gather the power of the many, and write a common answer. I started a first version in the wiki (the link is after). Just read it, and change it until you feel it fits to you too like a glove. It might have extra fingers (i.e. 'some of us feel that') but no claim should be false. Guys, let's see if we can speak with one voice! P.S. I know seedwiki is hard to use. please bear with me. We will install a new prgram soon (mediawiki is free and open source). In the meantime, if you (like me) have problems with the java editor, just click on Text Area below and edit the simple html. Someone will make sure it also looks nice. Answer to Michael from the Board: http://www.seedwiki.com/page.cfm?doc=Our%2...ost&wikiid=4265 Ron, please, don't correct all our caps lock. We like it that way.

DO WE ALL AGREE THAT IT SHALL BE TAO BUMS? Who DOES NOT AGREE SAY SO NOW! And produce alternatives and we will all vote.

Yeah, I need a wiki. In fact I don't know why I haven't installed a wiki in my webpage already. But that's because my blog promised to become wikiable... and it never did (aargh to php). But right now the wiki is crap. no one is using it, and I suspect (read 'hope') that is because the software is that crap. But, for example, we now have some interesting point (thanks also to you, bacio le mani) on the Dan Dien. We cannot link them because when we get a domain name the links will not work anymore. And we cannot insert them because no one can be bothered to fight half an hour to inset 10 lines. So I say.... let's get the domain name. No wait... DO WE ALL AGREE THAT IT SHALL BE TAO BUMS? Who DOES NOT AGREE SAY SO NOW! And produce alternatives and we will all vote.

That's the whole point of the bigger division (Entrance, TaoLounge, Basement) Which you can also call: off topic, spirituality, technical staff. In any case I think that having many forum is only cool if we have many administrators and many copies of each thread (one for each forum that is or gets related). If not 3 forum are ok, but then we are like everybody else. Behehe

But then a night lasts 10 hours. GULP

Haven't read it all, but most of it. While I do agree that on the legal side the situation is greatly imbalanced and it makes me quite furios. I don't have a similar reaction regarding the social situation. Maybe in the US the situation is different, (for example here it is the family of the woman that pays for the marriage, methinks), but generally social status is strong in the measure in which you feel and accept it. In other words if you don't have the balls to buy a ring that you can afford (instead of the ring of her dreams), and a vacation that you both enjoy and can afford, who's the fool? In this society there are many street that bring to slavery. And mortgage with marriage are the royal roads. Still you don't have to. But if you are not strong enough to say no because of social convention, you are already a slave. With or without collar. Many women see themselves as victims. Some don't... and guess what. The one that doesn't are hardly the one to actually experience abuse. Saying that if a man cheat he is seen as a womaniser, and if a women cheat all is ok does not seem to show the wholepicture. Both can be seen very bad (womaniser vs bitch). Men are often worse at keeping secrets, at least to male friends. From my point of view I am right now reading 'the ethical slut' which I strongly suggest you. It does indeed have a bit a female centered prospective (even though they tried to be a bit balanced, but the authors are two women), but what it really gives is a prespective of how life can be without monogamous marriage. Hello, I am looking for someone with the Paul Pitchford book "healing with whole foods". My edition is unfortunately far far away, and I need to give a formula to a fdriend who have problems with the teeth. In the Pitchford, in the chapted on Calcium, at the end of the calcium, it presents a formula that uses a tea made up of three ingredients, to regrow the teeth. I remembered that I used it in the past with great results. One of the element was equisetum arvense, then there was a seaweed, and the last was something from a grain. Can someone who has the book please make a little research and post the answer. Many thanks, Pietro

Thank you, exactly that was!

I too think that it doesn't make much sense to try to split taoism into different forum. But if the threads are copied to ALL the forum that pertain then it would start making sense again. Also note that if you go to the most general page: (Tao Bums Forum Indes, http://www.seanomlor.com/taobums/index.php ) on the right there is a link called view all the post from my last visit. I think that is one of the most important pages in this software. In fact I think I will bookmark it. http://www.seanomlor.com/taobums/search.ph...rch_id=newposts

I think we should all contribute. I also think we should have many administrators, and contributing should be one (but not the only) necessary condition to become an administrator. In this way we avoid situations we had with someone having the last word on something (or waking up in the morning and deciding he have to balance all the good karma), and we spread the work. Also my I suggest that the line under the name Tao Bums, should be "The Bums of Tao" or "The Bums of the Tao" more then the "Tao Bums". Is more explicative and less repetitive.

As I said before I am trying to make a bit of order among those threads. I suggest that we should use this thread to discuss the what exactly do we expect from the software and what software should we use. This also will imply who (or how many people) will be administrators, moderators and bla bla bla. This should be an unimportant topic as the best ruler is the ruler who rules less, but ... better be clear than sorry. Regarding the software, this seem really nice, but it missing the possibility not to open already read posts, that is before on the HTDB I had all the posts in one page and the posts I have read where signed in one color, while the other had another color. This made it very simple to found when new things had been posted, and what have I not read. The idea of tags vs categories seem to me important, but still an utopia. I have not seen one single DB with the tag system. Eventually they will come... eventually. For this reason I think we should be committed to have an open source software (like this) with the understanding that we will try always to install the latest version (as soon as it is secure enough) Another thing that I find REALLY important is the XML output. I think most of us don't want to explore the whole site every day just to see if someone have posted. So getting an rss feed seem vital. The perfect site would have rss feed of: new topics (one feed per category) new posts in a category (ditto) new posts in a topic (one feed per topic) new posts from a certain user (one feed per user) new users (one feed) Also both me and Max found useful the fact that in the previous Discussion Board the discussion was threaded with answers on the right, and a tree like structure. Please please please, we need a tree structure. A linear structure is just not the right medium for this discussion type. Ex: what is the dantiend answer 1: in the HT this answer 1.1 but what excercise should I do answer 2: in the dragon gate... answer 3: In energy arts... And then the various discussion can proceed along parallel lines without interfering into each other. It makes it also easier to ignore people, when you have no time. (Oh Gosh, a post from Ron, I need to skip it right now. ... and all its answers!) I think we should not settle for any software that does not present at least those caratteristics. I am sure some software like that is present over there. Let's find it, get it and install it. Pietro Pietro

Yes the site like this is much better. And it seem to be able to handle the best of both worlds. Sean, I can't find the the post where I invited everybody to join me in writing over the wiki a jointed answer to Michael. Could you please help me on that? Pietro

Maybe we could find a place on the net that let people take polls. this http://www5.cs.cornell.edu/~andru/civs/ permits you to create a condorcet voting poll. Condorcet is even better. As the approval method is simpler but is just an approximation of the Condorcet. Yet is it is the 'puter to do all the nasty calculations Condorcet would work just fine.
-
Please, read the page on the various voting systems I posted on the other topic: http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Voting...ystems#Approval I know we already have a poll, but making an approval is verystraightforward (just list the options that are ok for you), and is a much better (more precise) way to vote. Pietro

No I can easily post new topics, as I will show you in a sec Thank you very much! P.

As I was reading lurker comment it came to me that eventually we should come to a decision. The best way to find it will of course be consensus. But that is not always easy or possible to reach. Imaging me and Ron trying to reach consensus on how to use sexual energy. It might be that at some point we might need to vote on issues. Well, just yesterday I was reading on dailykos about different ways of voting. Some are easier than others. And some are more easily to be manipulated, or just to reach the wrong answer (USA2000 docet). I think we should use the Approval system: http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Voting...ystems#Approval for all major decisions. Which include the software to use, and the name. Pietro
