Here is a good place to start. Norbu compares and contrasts very well.

Dzogchen Thogal: a Buddhist creative adaptation of a Daoist technique?
ralis replied to Wells's topic in General Discussion
I would suggest going back and reading the OP as well as Jax's comments on this. My experience appears as a two way street in which sunlight if focused on correctly does have the effect discussed here. Your narrative implies that you are completely separate from external phenomena.- 177 replies

The SQL error is annoying and downright boring!

Watch for Norbu's webcasts on Dzogchen.net and there are a few others that can be found on YouTube where a teacher is transmitting Yangti and so forth.- 177 replies

You are going to need to expand on that comment. Seems you are not in agreement. I am not convinced that the Kati channel is a concrete structure but represents potential as opposed to a limited structure.- 177 replies

I rarely see mention of the solar plexus and would you expand on this? When Reshad Feild came to Santa Fe he had all of his students breath into the solar plexus and out the heart center with a 7-1-7-1 rhythm. Feild would bilocate to his students and have conversations in real time and I would assume that phenomenon is a form of the light body? Feild teaches from a Sufi lineage and is influenced by Gurdjieff.- 177 replies

I hardly agree that Dzogchen is about 'letting go'. Norbu describes it as liberating into its own nature or energy.

Dzogchen Thogal: a Buddhist creative adaptation of a Daoist technique?
ralis replied to Wells's topic in General Discussion
Terms such as Taoism, Buddhism are just cultural reference points and if one can get beyond the terms to a broader cross cultural view, I believe that can solve many problems/confusion. The two books in my last post are an excellent place to start.- 177 replies

Dzogchen Thogal: a Buddhist creative adaptation of a Daoist technique?

For anyone wanting to conduct research, Eliade's classic work on Shamanism is an excellent reference. Also, Idries Shah's book 'Oriental Magic' has a historical flow chart chart which shows the influence of Siberian Shamanism on all spiritual belief systems. I will copy and post that chart first chance. https://www.amazon.com/Shamanism-Archaic-Techniques-Ecstasy-Bollingen/dp/0691119422?ie=UTF8&qid=1466170023&ref_=la_B000AP85TS_1_2&s=books&sr=1-2 https://www.amazon.com/Oriental-Magic-Idries-Shah/dp/1784790451/ref=sr_1_12?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1466170544&sr=1-12&keywords=Idries+Shah- 177 replies

I was able to watch Fabio teach for about an hour on that Web cast but missed the rest due to time difference. For anyone wanting to watch a replay of the retreat, membership is required which runs around 250.00 USD a year. I refused to become a member around 20 years ago for this very reason.- 177 replies

If anyone had attended a Norbu retreat, he gives hints that are obvious to anyone paying careful attention. For the most part such hints are nonverbal. E.g. guru yoga practice is realizing one's own guru/teacher. That he was extremely clear and I realized that in just a few months. Dzogchen teachers such as Norbu make it absolutely clear from the beginning that they are not spiritual parents!- 177 replies

I fail to see that there is an appearance of a spiritual structure unless one is deferring back to an old Theosophical belief system which is inaccurate. The human energy field appears far too complex for beliefs in energy bodies that have human shape.

That quote from the Dharma Wheel contains much hearsay with no evidence to substantiate such accusations against Jax.. Jax has stated on his FB page that he has been authorized by Norbu to teach and yet people are accusing him of lies and deceit. Why is bringing Malcolm into the discussion again helpful to this discussion? There seems to be a cabal of Malcolm worshipers that cling to every word he writes. All I see from him are endless streams of quotes from texts which are legalistic arguments at best.- 177 replies

Dzogchen Thogal: a Buddhist creative adaptation of a Daoist technique?
ralis replied to Wells's topic in General Discussion
The thread is not about Daoism or Buddhism, whatsoever. What I wrote is not in regards to nihilism, but freedom from encumbrances of rigid identity which a practice such as thogal will accomplish. A Daoist or Buddhist or any other contracted identity will never attain the body of light or evolve except to the limits of such identity. The thogal practices are cross cultural and as I said earlier, are not copyright and belong to no one or group and therefor are not Daoist or Buddhist. By the way, all caps is shouting.- 177 replies

You misunderstand me as so many do. Just give up the identity of isness and the belief in an identity as I stated before. This is a choice and not a practice that takes lifetimes. To put it simply, language does not directly correspond to objects. I never believe or state that I am a Buddhist or belong to any other spiritual club. That gives me much freedom. Your answer indicates a static belief system and is a hindrance to any evolution.- 177 replies

Somewhere in the book 'Qigong Empowerment' the author claims it takes around seven years of absorbing sunlight to have enough fuel to achieve the 'rainbow body'.- 177 replies

This is the trap I am referring to in that the work is only internal and denies an external reality. This view is fraught with contracted identity/limitation with very little if any creative force.- 177 replies

One must cease all identity with any ism or belief system which is a limiting trap. "I am a Buddhist" or I am a Taoist" are just limiting memes.- 177 replies

The problem is one of anthropocentric views which are limiting. I can go into detail if anyone wants, but I will not waste my time with baseless arguing.- 177 replies
