DharmaWheel, pressure between the eyebrows, bad advice
ralis replied to Tibetan_Ice's topic in Buddhist Discussion
I appreciate your comments which are very useful to me. You might consider reading this piece by my favorite writer A.A. Attanasio. I am reading it for the second time since last night. Very challenging piece. http://attanasio.blogspot.com -

Since I am not a scholar I only speak from a limited experience. I do have that book, but it has been years since I read it. -

DharmaWheel, pressure between the eyebrows, bad advice
ralis replied to Tibetan_Ice's topic in Buddhist Discussion
I have never found mention of it in any Tibetan text. Although, Lama Rinchen Phuntsok did verify that i had a Kundalini experience. He must be the most knowledgeable Lama around and I believe he has memorized the entire corpus of Tibetan knowledge. http://dongakcholing.org/LamaRinchen.html The problem with any Tibetan text in my experience is the translations/commentaries are not in accordance with any Indian Sanskrit texts. Words are intentionally spelled and pronounced differently. E,g. Swaha (Sanskrit), Svaha (Tibetan). Tibetans have an extreme dislike for most anything Indian or at least in my experience with them. I asked a Lama who is the main Kagyu teacher at the Santa Fe center if he was putting ghee on his rice and he immediately responded; "that's Hindu" and changed the subject. -
Discussing medicine with an MD - some confusion

Big pharma is a major problem. Side effects from mild to lethal, overuse of antibiotics, incorrect combinations of meds that lead to serious complications and even death. If you can't get it up, then take Cialis and if it is up longer than four hours call your Dr. immediately to prevent further damage.- 27 replies

I was in a clients house years ago and saw an unusual antique silver tray with an ink well in the center with an engraved inscription in German. The piece was a gift from Stalin to Hermann Goering in appreciation for their friendship. The piece was dated before the war. What surprised me was that my clients were Jewish and lost family members in the holocaust.

Went to see the 'Hunger Games Mockingjay' tonight and will be adding those books to my list.

His site has all his books listed. http://www.aaattanasio.com/index.htm Quote by A.A. Attanasio from the front page of his site.

I am on my fifth reading of 'Radix'. I have an old paperback copy in my truck along with a Kindle ebook. Any of his works are well worth reading. http://www.amazon.com/RADIX-A-Attanasio/dp/1604504595

If you are reading Jack London, his short story 'To Build A Fire' is a must read. I read most of his works back in the 60's.

Being stuck in the absolut - how to overcome it?
ralis replied to Kubba's topic in General Discussion
Stop doing that practice. Why would you continue if it is creating dysfunction in your life? Why are you so certain that you are stuck in the absolute? -
Could someone explain the Buddhist belief system to me?
ralis replied to DreamBliss's topic in Buddhist Discussion
I agree. The Buddhist maps are outdated and the territory has changed in 2500 years. -

The problem is that the term emptiness does not translate well from the original language. It should be changed in a more precise way as opposed to regurgitating it ad infinitum. Why not elaborate and explain as opposed to cut/paste. -
The answers you seek are not simplistic in the least, but require a great deal of historical research/reading and questioning assumptions. It was the Palestinian people who were displaced by the pressure from the Zionist movement that dates back to the late 1800's and the establishment of the state in 1948. Why are you using the possessive pronoun i.e, its, as if Israel somehow owns the Palestinians?

"How invocations of "karma" and Zen are being used to justify deeply unequal systems of power" http://www.salon.com/2014/10/26/the_dangerous_american_myth_of_corporate_spirituality/ Thought this might be apropos for discussion.

Ebola and other sicknesses are restricted to certain areas on the globe and will continue to arise from there - read here Why

Ken Wilbur addresses this subject in 'Grace and Grit' when his wife was dying of cancer. Many people blamed her for having bad karma which is being very insensitive. http://www.amazon.com/Grace-Grit-Spirituality-Healing-Killam-ebook/dp/B00G3KCLNA/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1417821362&sr=1-1&keywords=grace+and+grit -

Africans are holding a low vibration and that is the reason for Ebola? You claim that certain tribes in West Africa are abusing women and therefor are contracting Ebola? That is ridiculous with no proof whatsoever. Very few cases have been reported in the U.S. and somehow that equates with a high vibration. Really? The U.S. is responsible for the almost complete destruction of Iraq with approximately 1 million Iraqi casualties and possibly around 3-4 million refugees. Vibration has nothing to do with it! I don't believe you given that your post is full of unfounded New Age belief systems. -
You are claiming the Buddhadharma is a scientific approach? How can a mythical religion be based on science? In what way does Tibetan medicine have great value?

If this Dr. is able to make that diagnosis, but one can donate blood or have a medical person draw an appropriate amount of blood to reduce the iron content.
-
I never said science is the ultimate truth. In fact no one has proved there is any ultimate truth. So you can't decide if bloodletting is an appropriate therapy?
-
If one is to teach the Dharma scientifically, then much of the belief systems and superstitions need to be jettisoned immediately. A proper scientific methodology is a stepwise process such that the process is exact and anyone can duplicate it. Honestly I don't see that in the Buddhadharma. As far as the Tibetan medicine goes, I believe there has been very little scientific research if any as as to the efficacy of such a system that still retains techniques that are from the medieval period. This Tibetan Dr. practices bloodletting. I couldn't believe it! Aku Padma Renowned physician who specializes in external therapies such as bloodletting and moxibustion.
