Your cat has an interesting expression. Almost human.

Does your ghost cat have immunity? Actually, your cat seems as if it has not adapted to the leash around its neck.

Is there an objective reality or not in Dzogchen theory?
ralis replied to Wells's topic in Buddhist Discussion
That is correct. I didn't meet Kalu Rinpoche, before he passed on, but I used to hang out with Sarah and the rest of the Dharma bums who lived at the Kagyu center. I spent many days and nights meditating in the Stupa. http://nobletruth.org/ -

Why not stop quoting and write from your own opinion/experience. Reminds me of fundamentalist preachers who beat people over the head with a bible. -

Actually your writing style does not convince otherwise. Why not view what you write from the point of view of others. -

He received instruction from Kalu Rinpoche who supervised the two 3 year retreats he was on. He and several others including Sarah Harding who teaches at Naropa were the first Westerners invited into this retreat. -
In general, I don't see much programming of the higher circuits.

You finally admit that what you write is your opinion. I have been stating that all along. Any teaching should be freely given when requested. I remember Ken McCleod said back in 89 that it is a mistaken idea that the teacher can read a student's mind to determine what a given student needs. -

I haven't heard TA in ages. Studied it in the early 70's. -

Authoritarianism doesn't exist? History is replete with persons who thought as you do. I base my conclusion on what I have seen from the early 80's starting with Trungpa. When I took my first teaching/empowerment, I quickly realized that these dudes were not going to give me the real in depth teachings. Norbu verified that in 1989. Let's get one thing straight here. I am questioning the way the teachings are presented, but you come across like an authoritarian when you make statements such as; At least I have the courage to ask tough question regarding the party line here. -

I said authoritarianism not authority. There is a difference. I suppose you have unwavering allegiance and do exactly what is commanded of you without question from your teacher. -

Actually it does. The OP asked about objective reality and what ensued was cut/paste and a flurry of authoritarian remarks that never answered the question. Buddhist double speak. -

You stated in regards to defending Buddhist parental authority in an earlier post. That is why I mentioned it. Further, Lamas sitting on thrones wearing their medieval garb has everything to do with it. Otherwise why would they wear such costumes? These dudes come to the West and expect everyone to throw money and gifts at their feet while dressed in their exotic finery. Norbu doesn't dress that way. In fact, he was a professor at the University of Naples. A real world job. Lab coats serve as a means of protection when working around chemicals and other material. BTW, don't you have anything better to do with your time? I am semi retired and am finishing a real world career and considering a second career. -

You are saying that the material universe is inert/dead? What if the material world was intelligent and perceptive? Not in a human sense, but alien to sentient species. -

Blind faith questions nothing in regards to what is presented as absolute truth. For myself I ask questions and only see possibilities. I have no interest or need in patriarchal parents that wear skirts and funny hats that you and asunthatneversts have an incessant need for. -

The view as you state is a tool for exploring the phenomenal world. What is the problem with being secular? As opposed to being trapped in a religious mindset where the individual mind is a closed box. In this case the attachment to the Buddhist box. -
His writing helped me to jettison a lot of religious belief systems BS that kept me frozen. Another term he used which he picked up from Leary was 'socialized primates'. Describes much in terms of how humans in general remain unevolved.

Aleister Crowley, James Joyce and Korzybski all were influential on RAW. In fact, RAW wrote an entire book without using 'is' which takes the form of 'to be'. 'Quantum Psychology', if I remember correctly.

Thanks for bringing up RAW. I read 'Right Where You Are Sitting Now' 24 years ago and it blew my mind in an unexpected, profound way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PjHWAXnrn0

At least one poster here has spoken out against science claiming it has no place in Buddhism. A few Lama's including the Dalai Lama don't share that idea. http://voiceofclearlight.org/component/content/article/182-august-2014/468-august-2014--buddhism-and-science-conference -
You do not need to practice any Psychic Ability externally, and: Why are we scared to fully transform in meditation?

What do you mean by nobody? A little harsh if you ask me. He was not speaking for himself, but referring to others which is a projection of his own fears. -

You haven't a clue as to the nuances of language and culture. If you did, the above question would never be asked of me. Furthermore, the participants in this thread are having a difficult time communicating the subject in question. With that in mind, this so called discussion becomes one of conjecture and innuendo. Why? The Dzogchen texts and translations from Sanskrit circa 1300 years ago, may contain many inaccuracies. My point is, the probability of extant texts being 100 % accurate in copying/translation is very low. If that being the case, then are reasonable discussions possible? I think not.
