  1. Tradition and Lineages

I read 'Science and Sanity' by Korzybski which is an excellent commentary on non Aristotelian logic and everything Robert Anton Wilson wrote before his passing. Korzybski and Wilson both have commented on the use of is and isness which incorrectly denotes absolute values. Most English speaking persons are clueless when it comes to understanding how Aristotelian logic impacts their thinking. I couldn't help but remember Bill Clinton's remarks. LOL!
  2. Tradition and Lineages

    Is this your interpretation? Movie?
  3. Tradition and Lineages

Exactly, how did you arrive at that conclusion? Your use of the term "is", denotes an absolute statement. However, "is" can never be absolutely defined as you so desperately believe. http://www.transpersonal.com.au/mind/is-ness.htm
  4. One view that is brought up repeatedly in these discussions is that the function of cognition is a barrier to any realization. These discussions assume that everyone has the same cognitive functions. Some are primarily visual, as well as some are primarily auditory etc. E.g. the Tibetan Lama's proclaim that anyone with any defective senses or lack thereof, would not attain enlightenment. Defective senses were seen as an impediment to realization. Negative karma BS was the reason given. This kind of arrogance is what gives religion a very bad reputation! That is not a compassionate point of view and more akin to superstitious thinking arising from the dark ages. That is not to say that everyone participating in these discussions are of this particular point of view. This is one example that I have had experience with. If the function of thought is an impediment to realization, then what about one who is born deaf? For anyone who is born deaf, the language that is endemic to their culture is not part of the brain and nervous system.
  5. The apocalypse is some superstition drummed by fear driven fundamentalists and it seems you are in that mindset! This stuff you are posting does nothing to help advance real understanding of human nature and by extension, solving some of our most egregious problems. You have convinced most here that you are a fundamentalist intelligent designer.
  6. Heartmind

What I would recommend as a practice as opposed to just mentally creating more belief systems around heart-mind, is to focus on the heart center, breath in and out from that area. Breath in and while breathing out relax. The breath should be relaxed and connected. See what happens.
  7. I hope you would define an age group here so as to not give anyone the wrong impression. Some texts refer to age 13 which would be jailbait in most countries! Norbu gives several long life practices which are yab/yum in nature.
  8. What are you listening to?

One of the original acid rock guitar players. He makes the guitar scream! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OMFiqNA6Ag&feature=related
  9. Heartmind

I was taught to focus inside the center of the chest close to the spine. Breath and relax from that spot. Norbu said to feel for the area. It is easily recognizable. This point unifies both the upper dantien and lower dantien.
  10. Heartmind

How is this helpful to her question?
  11. Just because you are in need of a lineage does not mean everyone else does! Preach! Preach!
  12. A question to the Buddhist schollars.

We speak English here in case you didn't notice and not Pali. I just don't have the Sanskrit fetish as you do.
  13. A question to the Buddhist schollars.

If you have seen the big bang, then how does that help the rest of us, that you have judged as being lower than your esteemed self? What good is it except used as an ego trip. This has nothing to do with anything. The big bang is proven to have happened. So what! You have said the Buddha is omniscient in other posts. You imply that the Buddha had a certain level of omniscience. There are no levels of omniscience!
  14. A question to the Buddhist schollars.

What part is malleable? Malleability is usually a metallurgical term as to how workable a metal is.
  15. I don't lose awareness during times of so called negative emotion. The idea that negative emotions make one unaware is nonsense.
  16. This is the problem with your over generalizations and use of terms. Loosing awareness? I have been aware since I was born and still am. Are you meaning unconsciousness? This esoteric belief you have that "awareness" is very difficult to be aware of or achieve, is just another trap laid out by teachers that many have bought into. This creates fear and worry among followers that they might just loose what can't be lost in the first place.
  17. If that is not a sexist statement I don't know what is. This is the whole problem with lineages and why they are problematic. Lineages become entrenched power structures and by their very nature appeal to a social dynamic that is primitive tribal in nature. In this case, entrenched male power structures in the form of a religious institution of Buddhism. This is no different than the Papacy. The power structure maintains tight control over transmission of teachings and who will be enlightened. Self realized or self lit ones are considered outsiders as Vajraji has so judged.
  18. I am talking about a wheel turning Buddha such as Shakyamuni 2500 years ago. I am familiar with the other female Buddha's. The problem remains that the lineage is dominated by males!
  19. If the Buddha is so realized, then why is the Buddha always male as well as the Dharma Kings i.e, Tibetan Lama's? This problem makes the Buddhist lineage a patriarchy.
  20. English is limited? Sanskrit is not? All languages, including mathematics are limited and only are approximations of reality. Language is not the object itself. GIH is right. You do have a Sanskrit fetish.
  21. I don't need a history lesson and I certainty don't care for your condescending attitude. Further, you are not a scholar, so don't pretend to be one! Scholars work by a set of principles that are defined by their field of study. You should reconsider this statement. Your narrative would state otherwise.
  22. Well said! Many followers fall for the mystique of exotic languages, robes and secret teachings. Many believe that Sanskrit has a special vibe to it. Sanskrit is Indo-European and is most likely not indigenous to India proper.
  23. Many so called enlightened ones come through Santa Fe offering teachings and Satsang. Teachers here are deemed enlightened by the effects the vibe has. I never felt that was sufficient to claim enlightenment at all. For most the vibe is gone after two weeks.
  24. I took Russian in college and some of the great works of literature are written in that language. Does that mean I should only discuss Dostoevsky in Russian among my English speaking friends? If I did, I would be labeled a snob and would be ostracized.
